Fun fact: if you actually spill water on a device, DO NOT TURN IT ON. Electronics only get damaged when water is running when there is an electric current running through it, instead leave it out to dry for as long as possible (could even take like 6-8 months depending on the device) and it should be good by then

Things not mentioned in this video:
1. You can fix a computer that has had water spilled on it, while it may seem counterintuitive, turn it off, remove the board, and wash it in distilled water, then dry it for a really long time and put it back together (Or just look up a tutorial)
2. You can also heat a hard drive or SSD to the point where all the data is removed, which might be an easier option for some.
Also don't forget to destroy your search history.

Unless the water has imperfections which help to make the water conducive then it shouldn’t be a problem but otherwise let it try so you don’t short-circuit the device and fry it.

In all seriousness, if you spill water on any piece of tech just turn it off as fast as possible and all the water out of it before turning it back on. The only way water can harm an electronic is if there is power going through it, so if it's fully powered off there is no electricity to be conducted through the water.
Edit: Side note, but rice is also useless. It will only make the problem worse by putting rice and food particles into your tech, which isn't as bad as water but it also does nothing to get rid of the water.

Not to be that guy but
If you keep a stash of silica gel (the white things that are in snacks),it actually works better than rice.
silica gel absorbs moisture in the air while rice absorbs what’s around it kinda.

It uses a soldered SSD
You can still desolder the ssd, it’s tedious but this is how data is usually recovered from dead phones

As a repair technician, don't toss it, dont try to power it on. Take it to a tech repair business and have a water damage treatment done. You would be surprised how often devices can be saved with minimal damage

Even if the pc or laptop no longer turns on it does not mean that the harddrive is damaged. Remove the hard drive and either place it in a hard drive case or a new pc.

I spilled water on my laptop once by accident and i put it on its side for the water to drip out and every last bit went away and my laptop still works till today (that was 3 years ago)
Fun tip for you do not use your rice when you get water in to electronic use silica packets.

if you spill water on it. remove the bottom casing, then wait for 2 days or use a hair dryer if you want to accelerate the process, then make sure that the water is gone from your internal components if not it could get in short circuit, put your bottom case in and power it on and thank me later if it worked (it's my method)

Or you can use a small fan to dry the electronics that you spill water. Except for coffee and etc because ants will get to your laptop keyboard. It depends if the water doesn't or have not go in the laptop.

3. The Mac you have has no hard drive or any type of removable storage lmao
If you spilled water on it and it was turned of just go and remove every single componment and place it in a dry spot for few months and it should work
OR go to repair shop to at least test if its fixable
(If not remove disk and use it as removable storage so you wont loose your important data)

No they cannot access your Hard drive. Because the data on the ssd chip is encrypted by the ssd controller in the Mx soc, by hardware means. This means as long as the soc is dead they can’t decrypt your data on the nand flash (same for windows, but it’s in terms of the controller on your ssd). UNLESS quantum computer become available everywhere and/or the encryption key leaked.
Safe disposal at some services is still not save as they also steal ur data

Its all fun and games when you realise its a Mac. And removing its hard drive is like open brain surgery.
Rice is not the solution. Immediatly turn off the pc, put it in a tupperware along with that silica packets to remove moisture. Wait as much time as you can, try turn on the laptop. If it doesn't bring it to a repair shop, if it still doesn't work, do what the video said
