Yeah been using it in my own campaign. Managed to slap down three stacks of Skaven and keep sweeping entire regions.
@@AwkwardHillbilly Except Necrofexes aren't as good as people claim they are. They dont have great missile damage + they take ages to kill something in melee.
"just don't fireball your own troops", is staggeringly good advice. Applies to pretty much any offensive spell in the game.
@Chase Moore Very True. Think there's even a spell that is cast on your own Skaven units when they are below half strength and causes a grievous amount of damage.
You may not like it, but this is what a peak performance doom-stacks look like.
Ice Troll army for Throgg is a really decent start/mid game doomstack but only for Throgg. Also for some reason it performs really well in autoresolve.

I love Throgg, i really love him, using trolls and fimirs with some frostwyrms and maybe manticores in early game is fun and make much more enjoyable campaign than mammoth spam, but Norsca in general is in dire need of generic lord for trolls and fimirs. If they will have it Wintertooth campaign will become much better.
Agree that would make wintertooth fantasy a whole lot more enjoyable if they did that.

I've extensively used a norsan troll army: it's very cost effective, performs well on autoresolve, heap of replenishment from eating captives. Unfortunately it falls short when shit hit the fan and the enemy bring terror on the meal. It gets wrecked by chaos, high elves, lizardmen armies for instance.

But the owner has armouries in every province capital, so they have 200 armour. Which would be amazing if every unit above tier 2 with the exception of cavalry didn't have AP.
That's not a Doomstack, it's a Doomed Stack.
You can get them to have an insane amount of armor
I like seeing mid tier stacks like this in action. It's really interesting to see you use subpar tools and get the best out of them.

Throggs campaign isn't so bad as long as you rush down your enemies before they can get units that will obliterate you. In my opinion it's easier to get the Norsca trophy with throgg than wulfrik because mammoths are expensive and slow to get.
@@northerncricket5199 yet once you get the mammoths on wulfric army you can steamroll over anything, the main problem with norsca campaigns is that their economy is nonexistant and you will get rushed by bretonnia forcing your armies in a defensive position when you need them raiding and sacking.

@@davidguillenmateu657 I did three Campaigns with Wulfrik the last week (1 modded, 2 normal) and have the solution for that: just don't consolidate Norsca early. Just confederate your home province and start raiding the empire. I got Middenheim razed by turn 10 and Altdorf occupied by turn 40. All while bretonnia clashes with the vanaheimlings and completely ignores me. I confederated with the grand leader of Norsca, surtha ek on turn 102 with occupied altdorf and couronne. My next target will be Naggarond.
Just rush Corone and it's not that bad.

I like Lore of Metal blobby armies for the AoE buffs/debuffs/damage, Glittering Robe for +60 armour or Transmutation of Lead or if someone pulls their own doom stack Final Transmutation does so much damage.

12:50 - It's not just upkeep, it's +12 leadership, which is huge!
I think trolls are great. Stick them in a bunch of distraction goblins, enemies mostly target the more numerous goblins so the trolls don't get killed. Not getting hit fixes the trolls poor armor and makes them punch above their weight class (Norscan goblins are called marauders, in case nobody ever told you). Trolls + gobs make a compact centerline, and the Ai ususally respond to it by blobbing up, leaving lots of units essentially standing in line doing nothing (apart from looking at a great foot descending from the heavens). Regen + low leadership means trolls auto-bail from bad engagements and heal up nicely. Fast enough for flanking. Once the battle is over trolls work as slow cavalry pursuit troops and can make sure no enemy infantry leaves alive. If you play on the difficulties where melee is viable trolls are great, cheap and killy.
I actually do give Throgg an Ice Troll stack in my World Walker campaigns, but I also give it a wizard and one or two warshrine mammoths and a couple skin wolf werekins. It's not quite as good as the mammoth doomstacks but it still kicks plenty of ass on VH battle difficulty with the aura buffs. They make a big difference with monstrous infantry that heals.

I did a Troll only doomstack in SFO before. That was great fun. with throgg as army leader.
But then they also heal a LOT more in SFO :D .
I do lots of work with troll stacks but I also use Trolls for the Troll King so I'm using stuff like snow trolls and chaos stone trolls.
In my last Norsca campaign, I also did this my trolls never give a damn about roasting everything around them with firestorms.

Missed opportunity here-
For most infantry units- trolls are more than capable of walking right through their units and passing behind them without needing to run around.
You can flank with them VERY fast, and they just pour right through chokepoints like gates.

I did something similar except it was a more well-rounded theme featuring all the monsters Throgg has special skills for. That meant 6 units of Fimir, 3 Frost Wyrms, 2 Fimir Bale-Fiends (1 fire and 1 shadow), Throgg and 8 units of Ice Trolls, replacing some units with their Regiment of Renown. I loved that doomstack.

I was running army like that playing as Wintertooth. Add fire mage and fimir with shadow magic. Charge at enemy as block and when they swarm around you you just destroy them with magic.
Always did Throgg, Metal Wizard, 4 Fimirs,rest ice trolls and maybe a Frost Wyrm...Absolutely brutal army playing as Wintertooth
Good stack, but yeah, it would've been better if he started as Wintertooth. Still, I recall doing my own Wintertooth campaign with nothing but ice trolls in Throgg's army. It was on normal, but it was fun doing the beast hunts with them.
One thing you said during this test made me think of fighting in the forest. Yes, you’d lose Melee attack, and so would the enemy, BUT if your unit is made up of 16 entities, that lose a value of Melee attack, and the enemy uses cavalry with say 60 entities, in the forest... who loses more combat-effectiveness..? Would it maybe be worth it even?
Against infantry, sure always drag them into the water... but against cavalry...
Food for thought...

Building the proper "Monster Horde" with Throgg, with frost wyrms and some fimir as well, is the real shit! It's very strong!

Ice Trolls still suck but I think Throgg is the perfect fit to lead the Skin Wolf Warekin stack you showcased in another video. Seems like the perfect fit for Throgg to still be in a doomstack but that is actually capable rather than trollish weaksauce.

I'm genuinely surprised... surprised it's taken this long to get a trollstack sent to Legend
add a couple of infernal dominance heroes or with trolls some confident ones (+4 Ld) can be use full especially if it's not Throgg leading the army (with Wintertooth though since you get -20% upkeep and 15% physical resist then). +20 MA for the army can't hurt :)
But also the warekins melee buffing auras for extra Armour/missile resist/melee attack i helpful to boost the trolls further.

One of the main strengths of such a monstrous armies is that compared to single entity armies the individual models heal back to full after the battle (if they survived)
For a race that can heal with lore of life or vampire thats not a problem but for f.e. Norsca thats really not so bad
As long as you know you enemies and can control to a certain degree how many enemies come in (lightning strike fe) then you have a nice tool at your hands

On normal difficulty stone trolls also work for greenskins, add some good perks from heroes and roll right over anything, don't know on higher difficulty though
I dont really know what do you expect from 75/55/160 armor-piercing trolls, but I have already played this doomstuck and I saw exactly what I expect ;D
Only two bad thing about NIT: low HP and they works only with Throgg
how do you use focused fire in this game? My first instinct is always to out number the enemy, using 2-3 units to attack single units, and avoiding the rest. I tried stacking all my archers together for maximum focus and it was... not great.
The physical resistance when playing as wintertooth would really help i think
I think what buffed the trolls so much was them lowering the unit scale which made most units weaker
Can you try the lizardman skink doomstack that reduces leadership (which you Said to be the strongest) VS. The greenskin one with the immortal ror unit?
I think it being a world walkers army ends up being a net positive, since as we just saw it IS a strong army, but only for Throgg. This way you can have him rolling around with his troll stack but still also be able to pump out mammoth stacks that take advantage of the faction bonuses. Sure it's not the most optimal doomstack, but mid game I could see this being pretty strong while you're still building up what you need to have a bunch of low cost mammoth stacks running around.
Could put a shadow Balefiend in there, get some sweet debuffs as well as Pit of Shades
Yeah Throgg makes em pretty gewd, 15 leadership, 20% missile res, 15 mele def/atk more cost reduction. Definitely I think metal or fire wizard would have made that army relatively top notch. Probably not as easy to use as mammoths but near as effective.
One important thing I learned today is that it doesn't matter who you don't pay so you might as well not pay expensive units rather then cheaper ones. Sounds reasonable.
I think this proves that a Throgg campaign would be fun to watch.
Unfortunately it suffers from the same problems as any other Norsca campaign, which is an extremely tenuous economy and the need to hold indefensible territory with armies that you really, _really_ need to be raiding with non-stop because otherwise your economy implodes.
@@GaldirEonai Protect the territory? I didn't even got to that point in my recent Norsca campaign. I confed almost the whole Norsca and saw the red public order in every settlement. Then I ended the campaign cuz I couldn't be bothered to deal with it. I guess the best way to do it is let the others build it up and then confed, but that would mean just chilling for a long time without doing much and then face a late game empire.

@@donaldthump6461 If I am about to sit and w8 for ages I am better off playing Tomb Kings. Honestly Norsca needs some changes. Never seen them as something more than something small and annoying and treat it like a beastmen tribe. Even rogue armies are more dangerous than them.

The ice troll stack beats the war mammoth doomstack. The mammoths bog down when surrounded by trolls and they are resistant to knockdown. The DPS output density of the ice troll blob is far greater than the mammoths.
Just curious: can Norsca get 75% upkeep reduction with Chaos Invasion: off?

I have done a stone troll doomstack with grom the paunch and the unbreakable meal for trolls.
I think the army is good but Fimir just tend to perform so well. its a matter of how much you can get out of the regeneration i would say. also wintertooth can build a building in engrad that buffs trolls too iirc. I will say the army performed better than I expected. it could do with maybe having like two fimir great weapons to do some anti cav and debuf armor. or maybe one great weapon and a balefiend of fire or shadows

If you play as Grom, you can cook a meal that makes all trolls unbreakable for 10+ turns. Stone troll doom stack ftw

Imagine if they made A.I semi-decent at using unit abilities and recruit doomstacks. It would be pretty much a nightmare to beat, if the A.I would micro manage and use every ability on cooldown ,whilst trying to avoid friendly fire ) then you would go 2stacks+ cheeses vs 1 A.I stack. Or atleast not sending all their lords in a bee line at the start of every fight.
I swear if Throgg gets a buff where all Icetroll armies get damage reduction and or damage buff, with Throgg himself getting Unbreakable Icetrolls. He'll be a terror with Troll spam, cost effective as well if they don't get an Upkeep nerf.
