I remember being in Sharjah, UAE and the Indians and Bengalis were treated like cattle at the airport. What I found was that most of these people work hard to earn money to send home. Even the Camels have better accomodations than some workers. Truly sad

EDIT: I didn't get notifications about this thread for a long time so I didn't engage with the various discussions, so I'll answer them here as best as possible. My parents were diplomats stationed in Dubai and I happened to be born there. I wanted citizenship because Dubai is very close culturally and geographically to India. Being a citizen of UAE would have been great to be a part of a modern country and be able to travel to India whenever I chose. My parents being diplomats would have meant I would have gotten a good job and contributed to the economy, not be a leech and get benefits like some have stated. I live in the US (am a citizen) and have missed out on being a part of Arab/Indian culture...not much of it was around where I grew up. I understand that Arabs wouldn't have wanted to be a minority, but I was not a leech, so no reason to not have some way for me to become a citizen if I could prove I was contributing to the country in a significant way.

I grew up in Riyadh and people look at me like in pity like what the hell is wrong with you and they'll be like "how's your life there?" "are they good to you?" I'm like they are freaking great and so nice, especially to Filipinos. When they meet us, they always say "kamusta kababayan" and end the conversation right away. because they don't know anything else to say. And yes it is true that they are rich. Limousines are all over Riyadh. You can see them like Toyota, lots of broken limo as well.

he is right about the Arabs being rich but it's always the 1% of every Arab country who are filthy rich and the others are either lower middle class or poor the upper middle class is shrinking so fast that you can't find them anymore and to live in the Arab gulf and be a citizen means you must take alot if debts, that started with the 80 generation since then the debts problem is only growing. in the Arab gulf all of us are drowning in debts but there is always couple of families who are insanely rich and you never see them in the country, they study, marry, live in Europe but when the business go down a little or if they want to steal more to do bigger projects outside they will come back only to milk us dry then go back to their paradise. it's no heaven in the Arab countries, it's rich yes and filled with oil but everything is going to a number of families who control the oil production. it's crazy how the world think we all live like kings when we instead wish to live outside think the western live the best , most comfortable life.
In Kuwait and Saudia the middle class is shrinking, pretty fast too. You cant compqre dubai to any other Arab country because the majorty of its residents are foreigners. Actually the whole country is different from every other country because they are building and developing the whole country, the government want their country to be the best in everything, which means better Living conditions. On the other hand, Kuwait and Saudia Arabia have alot of economic problems that I'm familiar with because I live in Kuwait and alot of my family live in Saudi. Generally the labour force in constructions are the main ones who are not treated well. We cannot say ALL are treated exactly same. Now these labourers would be treated the same in India as well. When Europeans are treaten better in Arab Countries I will go immediately there just tell me where I get money and a home for free I can get my children educated for free, build with other cristians a new cathedral and sound the bells few times a day and also sit in the middle of the City giving them the Bible and ask them to convert and naturally tell them that I will cut their heads off when they don't agree fully with me. An Arab can do that in Rome can I do it in Mekka?

As an Emarati I can confirm on how we look down on other indians sometimes, but there are also other times where we treat them good either give them food or a place to stay, not all Arabs who are in Dubai or whichever Emirates are that descrimnatory.
