4 cups small bread cubes (about 1/2")
1/2 cup butter, melted
1/2 tsp cinnamon
1/4 tsp nutmeg
1/8 tsp salt
3/4 cup brown sugar, packed
4 cups granny smith apples, peeled and chopped
Mix bread cubes with butter, cinnamon, nutmeg, salt and brown sugar. In a slow cooker, arrange in alternate layers bread cubes and apples. Cover and cook on high for 1 1/2 to 2 1/2 hours until apples are tender. Serve warm with cream, whipped cream or ice cream.

Hey Jill when your old like me this was a trip down memory lane
HI Sleeper! I am old! SO happy you took a trip down the lane. I do it all the time, that's how I come up with these episodes! LOL!
We ate out of the Crock Pot a lot growing up, tons of beef stew thickened with tapioca.
My mom received a Crock Pot for Christmas one year, it came in a huge box. One day she got tired of sorting, pairing and folding socks so she put the big Crock Pot box next to the dryer and tossed all the socks in there and we had to dig through the box to get our own socks, it was known for years as the "Sock Box." "Mom, I can't find my gym socks!" "Look in the Sock Box!" Not related to cooking, but it's still a Crock Pot story. :)
Thanks for more good memories!
OMG the sock box! I love that so much! I guess the crock pot is the gift that keeps on giving, LOL! Always happy to hear when memories come back!!! Have a great weekend!
🤣cute story. 🥰
hi jill!! i rember in 1974 walking to Handyman hardware store to buy my mommy a crockpot for christmas, i Bought it for 5 Dollars, wow and she had that cookbook. it was still in my folks house when i cleared it out in 2014. good memories.
What a beautiful memory Tim! How sweet, you must have loved your mom so much to do that. I love that she had the same book, it was a popular one! Thank you so much for sharing!
Hello my friend. This is more than just a video, you put love and passion into it. Great job! Good weekend👍🌹💎
This Apple Brown Betty dessert looks amazing Jill. Set and forget once the guests have arrived I LOVE it!!!!!
Gotta love crock pots!!
Hi Jill I love this episode! I didn’t know the crock pot was that old. I thought maybe it was a 60’s or 70’s invention. So cool. This Apple Brown Betty recipe looks super tasty and it was so easy to whip up! Just watching you mix up the apples at the end with that beautiful color had me so curious to try this! I’ve said this many times before - I love my air fryer, I love my instapot and I love kitchen gadgets in general, but none of these things will ever beat my love for the crock pot!! It will always be my favorite. Thank you for the food history and for the yummy recipe! Cant wait to try it 🤗⭐️🧡 🍸
Hi Ryan! Isn't the story great! I still don't have an instapot or air fryer, just too "modern" for this scratch cook, LOL! SO I agree, nothing like a crock pot! Give this a try, the flavors are pure and simple and make you smile!!! Let me know if you try it!!!
We use our crock pot often, in fact just last week we made Carnitas in our crock pot. But I never gave much thought to the history of it! So cool!
Hi Kevin!!! So great to hear from you my friend! Carnitas......great use of the humble crock pot. Isn't the story great! Hope marriage is treating you well!
Hi Jill 👋, That cookbook looks familiar. I think my mom has that cookbook. Lol. Thank you for sharing this recipe. Looks delish. Have a great weekend my friend ! 👍😎👍♥️😋😋😋😋😋. Thanks for the history on the crockpot ! 👍👍
HI Cheryl! Glad you liked the story, I love it! Have a great weekend my friend!
Thanks for the recipe, I did not know the history, so that was a bonus. Had many meals from our trusty crockpot growing up.
HI Dawn! I love this story! And so many dishes and memories from the trusty crockpot!
I thought the Crockpot came out in the '70s. Boy, was I wrong or what! Thank you for the great history and such a delicious dessert! Coincidentally, I saw this video right after taking my Crockpot out of a storage closet and cleaning it up for the fall! Can you believe that?✅ 👍😜😎
Hi John! The more you know! I love this story! Too funny on the timing, I guess you need to make this! LOL!
I love the crockpot 🥰 It’s so special to know the history. And as always, I love your enthusiasm. Happy!
I have a well used crockpot, but recently bought an electric skillet at a yard sale, to use when we travel in our Mtr home. Now I will always think of your show when I use it too!! Thank you Jill💕
Hi Roberta! Isn't the history fabulous? I love crock pots because they stand the test of time. And you just gave me the best idea! I'm going to get an electric skillet for our rv. Once we find it. Still looking... . Have a wonderful weekend my friend!💗
Delicious dessert my Soul Sista, awesome recipe!!! Crockpot Magic!!
Thank you my soul sista!!
Yes
my mommy also made great swiss steak in her pressure cooker, yummy
I need to buy a crockpot. We didn’t have one growing up (it was new-dangled technology that didn’t exist when my parents grew up, so we didn’t have it either), but they are so handy!
I remember when we got an electric frying pan, though: it was a Christmas (1966) present. My mom used it for decades and now I use it. Still works perfectly.
I love that you still use your mom's electric skillet! And I especially love that you remember the year she got it! They sure made things to last back then! And yes, you need to buy a crock pot!! New-fangled technology! LOL!
Wow this looks absolutely amazing Jill!
Thank you Brian!
So sorry I am just getting to this video. I had NO IDEA the crockpot was that old!! Ive heard of an apple brown betty..but didnt know it involved bread! I always learn so many cool things from you my Friend!! Thanks Irving for inventing this great idea!
Never be sorry love! We are all busy. Isn't the history wonderful! The more you know!!
Hey, Jill 💚🌸. Ohmygoodness, another dish I learned to make in Home Ec in the 60’s and had forgotten about 💞. Not in the crockpot, of course 🤣😂. I am going to do this when I get some apples! I so love your history lessons 💖. Thank you so much for sharing sweetie pie! Have a wonderful blessed weekend ❤️
You're the best Phyllis! Thank you! You always make me smile! I love that this was part of your home ec class! You will love this version!
Hello
You created such a wonderful recipe. My stomach is growling right now 😋. IT must be delicious. I can't wait to see what's next. See you soon.
Many thanks!
Love my slow cookers! 🥰
I have a first edition of Crockery Cookery.
Oh wow, what a treasure Buck!
Wow! An original 👍🏼
Hi Jill, I've been fortunate enough to own three different styles of crockpot all made by Rival. I was gifted an avocado green tall pot for my first marriage in 1971. Would you believe it still works perfectly well?? At the time of my second marriage in 2008 I received one similar to the one you use in this video. The tall one I use for stuff like chili or stew, the shorter/wider one is perfect for cooking two small chickens at the same time and the third is an itty-bitty one that I got as a promotionary gift with a cheese order, which is so useful for melting cheese or butter when either is needed. Love them all and would never part with any of them.
Have never made a dessert in a crockpot. Eager to give this one a try 💚💚💚
Hi Heather! I love avocado green and I totally believe it, they made products so well back then! My old school 1970s oven in my house works perfectly! I have a large one and the tiny one too and use it for warm dips, great idea about the butter! What a great gift with purchase! SO excited for you to try this, you will love it! Always great to hear from you!!!!
That's really cool history Jill!
I knew about the Jewish Sabath somewhere back in my cluttered brain.
But the finding out that the Crockpot was invented for it is amazing!
Sharp guy!
And a wonderful sounding recipe!
You do great work!
Bill you're just the best and I always love reading your comments! Pretty cool history, isn't it? And if you are an apple fan, you must try this. It doesn't get any easier! Have a great weekend!
@@yesterkitchen Thanks Jill!
You too!😘
The picture of the author is just fantabulous! How stale/fresh are the bread cubes supposed to be? Also the video lists 1 t of nutmeg, not 1/4 as given in the voiceover. Sorry to be the bearer of bad tidings. Have a great weekend.
Hi Audrey! Thank you so much! I'll fix it. I'd much rather you be the bearer than have it wrong. The bread for this doesn't have to be stale. Have a great weekend too!
