I would love this Jill! Everytime we use to make chili, I would lay the tamales in the bottom of the bowl, top with homemade chile, cheese and sour cream. I know I would like this. Thanks for sharing!
Hi Rus! I love that! I am totally going to do that the next time I make chili! Thank you! In the meantime, this is just fantastic! Have a great weekend my friend!!!
Yum! A great way to upscale canned tamales! Especially if accompanied by Spanish rice 😊
Hi Buck! Oh yes it will! And if you need a good recipe for spanish rice, I have you covered! Just omit the Hot dogs. :)

Yummy yummy I would love this. I remember seeing the canned Tamales before but I don’t remember if I’ve tried them or not. It might just be Time! Love quick skillet meals where you stretch your ingredients and make something unique out of a few convenient items! I can see why yo7 locked onto this recipe when you were looking through your book Jill !! Sweet corn and tamales in sauce with spices 😋. And of course there’s velveeta! Who doesn’t love Velveeta? One of the tastiest cheeses and definitely the best melting cheese ever lol. Like 66 my friend 🤗🙂🍸🧡
Hi Ryan! 1M% on everything you said! This dish is so retro! And if you've never tried the tamales, they are old school but I highly recommend you give them a go. Always happy to see your comments my friend! Have a beautiful weekend!
YUM! I totally forgot about the Tamales but remember them well! this looks good Jill! Thanks for sharing!
Hi Mike! The coolest thing about them are they haven't changed a bit!
What a magnificent Meal my Soul Sista, love these recipes in minutes!!! Looks delicious 😋
Many thanks my souls sista!
Definitely going to make this soon. My grandsons will love it.
I'm excited, this is so good. Let me know how it went!
I used to have a Better Homes & Gardens Meals in Minutes Cookbooks in the '70s and I used to buy those canned tamales but somehow missed making this recipe. Velveeta was a staple in our house as well as my grandparent's when I was growing up. My grandmother bought a block of it every Saturday afternoon for as far back as I can remember. Shredded Velveeta is new to me and I can see that it's every bit of difficult to work with as I imagined it would be. All of the ingredients came together beautifully though. It looks delicious and I was super happy to see all of you this time since the last three videos I watched were just your hands. I need to get some Velveeta and Hormel tamales so I can try this.
Hi Linda! I love that you had and used this fabulous book! It just makes me smile that your grandmother bought a block of Velveeta every Saturday! It was such a popular ingredient back then. Thank you for your kind words! I'm in many of my videos, especially the older ones. A few years ago I started mixing it up with hands only. I hope you try this dish and if you do, please let me know what you think!
I tell you what Jill that Tamale Skillet looks fantastic! I would love a big plate - yum!
Hi Alicia! Great to hear from you! Many thanks!
Hello Jill! I just came from the grocery store and bought locally made pork tamales with sauce included (in a separate pouch inside so you can steam the tamale first while heating up the sauce. I was so excited! I also picked up small box of Velveeta as making Mac and cheese this weekend. You are wonderful to watch. My brain must have channeled your upload. LOL. ❣️ Much success with your cookbook!
Hi AwesomeGrandma! Kismet! I'm sure the tamales you have are MUCH better, LOL! Excellent shopping list, totally read my mind!!! Many thanks and have a great weekend!!
OMG!! I just came across your channel and this recipe. This recipe and that cookbook were a staple in our house in 70’s and 80’s. My mom would serve this with sour cream. Thanks for the memories! ❤️
Hi JP! Oh this is a good one and I absolutely love that your mom made this! Sour cream would be a great add. I hope you enjoy traveling to the past through food and hopefully you'll find more dishes you grew up with!
I have eaten lots of those canned tamales, they remind me of Mississippi tamales. This looks like a fun recipe. I'm going to make it. Thank you.
You're going to love it John!
Hey, Jill 🌻🍁💖. I love those tamales!!! No, I can’t even remember the last time I bought velveeta 🤣😂. I do love it, though! This looks so yummy! I don’t think I would cut my tamales, cause it’s just me 💕. Thank you so much sweetie pie ❤️. Have a wonderful blessed weekend!
Hi Phyllis!!! It was a while for me with Velveeta too! Oh this is so yummy! Such a great way to recapture those memories of both of these products! You always make me smile! Have a wonderful weekend!!
👍😋👍❤️🥰😁 Looks so delicious! Never made tamales but I have eaten them. Lol 😂. Have a great weekend Jill ! Opening a can of Hormel tamales is the closest thing to making tamales lol. It would probably taste good with corn chips. 🤤. It’s been a while for me since I’ve used Velveeta but I do like it.
Hi Cheryl! It's so much fun to take the cute little paper wrapping off the tamales! And Velveeta....well classic! I agree corn chips would be perfect! Have a wonderful weekend my friend!!!!
Jill, I love your stuff! Every time I watch an episode, I want to dig through my books again. I keep telling myself that I need to get rid of some. I have so many! And then I watch your videos and think, nah. I'll just sell my first born instead.
LOL!!!!! OMG you are so funny Charlotte! Keep the kids, keep the books! They are both treasures! And if you need to get rid of any books, hit me up! But after 6 kids, I'm not taking any more. LOL!!!!
@@yesterkitchen lolol! So you're saying, send you the books, but not the kid?🥸 Got it!
@@ConstantCompanion Yup! 💗I'm too old! LOL!
I have a can of tamales in my pantry! I haven't bought Velveeta in years, but recently started buying their cheese sauce packets for a quick broccoli cheese rice, so good. Wal-Mart in the Atlanta area sells Velveeta shreds, so you may be able to get it delivered from their site, not sure. I love your recipe, it's so fun and looks delicious.
Hi Kathleen! Oooh... Velveeta cheese sauce! Just give me a spoon, lol!
If you have a can of tamales in your pantry, it is well worth it to grab the shreds and give this a try. It is absolutely wonderful! And thank you so much! I'm pretty old school and happy to shred a brick of velveeta. I think next time I'm going to take someone's advice and put it in the freezer for a little bit first. If you try it, please let me know!
@@yesterkitchen I'll let you know how we like it. I have a ton of food in the fridge to use up, then I'll make it
I love Velveeta, I use it around the holidays in mac-n-cheese and Ro*Tel nacho dip. It's too salty for me to use regularly, so it's a welcome annual treat. I've never had Hormel tamales, but I've seen them in grocery stores for as far back as I can remember. I might pick some up this weekend to check them out.
Hi Leguminator! I get it! Velveeta is not an everyday ingredient. I love that rotel dip! And you must try the tamales. They are commercial but have that special magic to them. Let me now when you do!
Nice!
Word to the wise: a really soft cheese like Velveeta might be easier to grate if you freeze it.
Try making your mac & cheese with that Old English cheese that comes in the glass jars some time. It melts like Velveeta but is sharp cheddar flavor! It's what I use in my aunt Edna's escalloped asparagus, without which Thanksgiving wouldn't be Thanksgiving.
I know Old english! Thank you, I will totally try it next time. And thank you again, Velveeta cheese in the freezer next time!
I love your Thanksgiving tradition! Send me the recipe! I that is allowed. :)
Great recipe! In Mother Russia we make tamale from sawdust and yogurt. 💪💪💪.
Lol! Stay strong!
In mother Russia, you don’t make tamales…tamales make you!😂
@@JB-lm5xt 🤣🤣
Making this tonight. ❤
So excited Tammy! Let me know what you think!
OMGosh!!!!! This was fantastic. Hubby loves it. So a great big 👍🏼.
@@tammyjones3315 Tammy you have truly made my day!! Thank you!
Hi Jill. I have everything to make this except the tamales. I wondering if Dollar General would have them? My daughter can't stand Velveeta and never could do used cheddar for everything. I love those old recipes and ur channel!
Hi Jade! I hope you give them a try! Hoping Dollar General has them! This is such a comfort dish! The Velveeta makes it but cheddar will definitely work! Let me know if you give it a try! And many thanks, you have been with me for so long, I am honored you are here!
They sell shredded Velveeta in my area (Louisiana)
Super licky Kay! I am hoping I'll find it when I get to Palm Springs!
This looks like a great one pan meal. I'll have to leave the olives on the side because I'm the only one that likes them.
It is Demetri! And I look at it as you get ALL the ploves! Yay!!
Shredded Velveeta all day long Florida
Freeze your Velveta (not too hard) to shread it and keep it from sticking.
Great idea!
Are you still releasing new videos every week? I don’t see any.
Hi Jill, when I was a child (back in the '50's) I LOOOOVED Velveeta but when I joyfully tried it again a few years ago I discovered that somewhere along the line somehow the recipe seems to have changed from how I remember it tasting. So disappointing ☹
Hi Heather! Awwwwww.....I had the same experience with Chef Boyardee Beef ravioli which was my fave when I was a kid. Bummer.
