Marvel's newest addition to its cinematic universe, Ant-Man, hides a disturbing secret in its physics. In saving his loved ones from utter destruction, does Ant-Man actually destroy us all, taking the world as we know it with him? I think we've just uncovered the truth that Ant-Man is in fact Marvel's deadliest hero!

The MCU doesn't mention this but in the comics, the Pym particles actually MANIPULATE matter itself by moving it in and out of another dimension, so that way when he needed to punch he could be of his own weight but when on ants, he can be light.

    *THEORY INCORRECT*
Black holes do not "suck in" matter. Matter falls in due to gravity, but since the black hole only has the mass of one Scott Lang, it would only have the gravitational pull of one Scott Lang. The black hole has a region where not even light can escape, but as it was said, that region is smaller than an atom. For the most part, the gravitational field would not be strong enough to pull atoms away from molecules, and definitely wouldn't be strong enough to pull in matter. So no, an Ant Man black hole would not destroy the world. What would happen, though, is that Scott would fall into the center of the Earth and be trapped forever.

Yes, but at that point we've passed out of the realm of general relativity and into quantum gravity, and we're not completely sure WHAT happens at that level. Gravity as we know it might cease to apply at all.
There is also the possibility that be would become a naked singularity, depending on his charge, which would revolutionize astronomy, astrophysics, string theory- the list is too long to count.

Same for me as well. Though admittingly for me ....I never looked deeply into the channel to find Game Theory on my own.....it took YT suggesting GT after I watched a few videos of people playing games (I forgot specifically who hence why I said it like that) for me to get a suggestion for any Game Theory episode. Even after that it somehow took me a while to realize that the host of Game Theory was the same as Film theory 🙈. I think it's because most of the game theory episodes had him directly in front of the camera instead of the cut out of a photo that he uses here (or at the time he used it here a lot more 😅).

easy explanation: there is more to the Pym Particle than that one sentence Hank said to Scott. Pym gave Scott a quick, one-sentence explanation of how the science behind the Pym Particle works. that can hardly be called strict rules. he said the thing about the distance between the atoms but there is obviously much more to it. For those wondering In the comics, Hank Pym's Pym Particles work by interfacing with a parallel dimension (the Kosmos dimension) and shifting mass back and forth between the two dimensions. When an object shrinks here, it's extra mass is shunted off to Kosmos, and when it grows here, the extra mass is pull in from Kosmos.
However, that’s the comics, not this movie.

Marvel actually did stick to the explanation in the comic books. The trick is that Hank Pym *lied* to Scott Lang about how the particles actually worked.
The actual comics explanation is that the Pym Particles allow a sentient mind to interact with another dimension (in the MCU, the Quantum Realm) to either shunt mass into or out of this universe. The same particles are used by the Vision to increase or decrease his density without changing his size, while Ant-Man/Giant-Man uses the particles to reduce his size, or his size *and* density, or increase his size *and* density at the same time (because if he just increased his size, he'd float away in the slightest breeze). If too much mass is shunted, the whole organism transitions into the other dimension, which is why turning off the regulator risks being lost in the Quantum Realm.
Hank Pym lied to Scott Lang for two main reasons:
First, because telling him the truth would involve telling the truth about what happened to Janet, his wife. Hank hasn't even told his *daughter* the truth about what really happened to Janet. He only tells Scott about the Quantum Realm tangentially in warning Scott not to screw around with the regulator (and still doesn't explicitly mention another dimension existing.
Second, because at the point he gives Scott the "space between atoms" explanation, he still doesn't trust Scott fully. As Scott tells Hope, Hank picked him because, unlike Hope, Scott was expendable (in Hank's eyes). If Scott were to betray Hank and go to Darren Cross, for instance, his info derived from Hank about Pym Particles would actually wrong-foot Cross, since it's not how they really work at all.

This was the first ever theory I watch on any of the channels. I was such a fan of this channel that it took me a while to realize you were the same host for Game Theory as well (after YT suggested one episode of Game Theory during one of my "i am interested in games I could never afford to play" phases 😅).
I will miss you MatPat and this Theory will always be in the front of my mind everytime I think of you or Thomas The Tank Engine 🚂

As he shrinks, his moment of intertial will decrease as r^2. This means that to conserve angular momentum, he will begin spinning really really quickly as he shrinks. Angular velocity ω would go with r^2, so centripetal force would go with r^3. Gravity only increases as 1/r^2, which means that ant man's ratio of centripetal force to surface gravity will increase as 1/r. At high enough energies, electromagnetic forces are insignificant (assuming the shrink suit keeps them constant) so long before becoming a black hole, ant man will spin fast enough to tear himself to tiny shreds.

Really, tell me more about what would happen if I managed to shrink down below the level of atoms.

+Bill Kong This is false. Unless Ant Man is already spinning before he starts shrinking, his angular momentum is and will remain zero throughout the shrinking process. So right away, the whole argument breaks down. But even if he _was_ spinning, you neglect to mention that this places him in a non-inertial (accelerating) reference frame, which means you need to use the relativistic formulation of angular momentum rather than the classical formulation you're using here. The Lorentz factor (1/sqrt(1-v^2/c^2)) places an upper bound on Ant Man's angular velocity, meaning that the relationship between ω and r^2 will break down as v approaches c. Unless you mean to suggest that Ant Man can spin at a speed exceeding the speed of light, his pieces will not be able to escape the forming event horizon.

It really annoyed me in Civil War, when Ant-Man entered Tony's suit, because how in the world did Tony not feel instantly heavy? And when he became larger, how did he not just fly away? Glad you talked about it.
