Hey! Venezuelan here. This made me cry for multiple reasons: 1.- The fact that someone is actually factually reporting on what happens to us and in some ways, this has been more through-rough than a lot of journalist.
2.- Because it reminded me of exactly how bad this is, with no end on sight. :(
Just to fact-check/expand on context: Venezuela did have a real, albeit imperfect democratic system from 58-98... The year we elected that asshole Hugo Chávez. And to be fair, plenty of people-both local and immigrants- profited: there was more social mobility and the opportunity to study, get good jobs, make a living, take care of your family, etc. Venezuela was much like the US, a migration magnet.
And food scarcity started in 2007: milk was one of the first things to go. The thing is that because of the high oil prices is like they could keep cooking in spite of a gas leak, but eventually you rub out of gas.
The thing about controlling of the 1 resource=control of the population is true. Is like how abusive partners will try to prevent their victims from having their own money or take away any income they generate so as to keep them subdued.
The Venezuelan government is responsible for people not finding food, but they will SELL you boxes of government selected food for you. So, also Maslow’s pyramid: you keep people from being able to protest because they’re relying on that food box you sell them. And government officials are the ones who import that food and make money off of it.
Saludos Camarada!! Jajajajjaja, jodiendo, maldito maduro. And yeah, finally someone famous in pop culture and stuff that talks about most of the issues that happened in our country, shit happens. And yeap, I feel like we should actually say that nowadays a common person gets less than $3 a month, what a shame.
Another Venezuelan here!
The acknowledgment of our shitty economy made me happy but mostly sad. I miss the country I used to live in. I left a year ago and I know whatever country I left is not the same place.
It is sad to know that everyday the situation gets worse and worse, the price of the dollar is stellar and people depend on the food the goverment gives... Presidential elections are coming and guess who's gonna buy votes with food? There you go, like an infinite paradox
Un abrazo desde Mexico. Fuerza Venezuela!
Vanessa Marcos TChaka invested in knowledge sent his best students across the world to the best universities so they had stocks, bonds and patents up the wazoo when the vibranium went inert in the comics I’m guessing Maduro didn’t diversify and taxed every industry to subsidize foreign oil extractors who rent the oil wells? “No shortage of sand”
Global sand shortage: allow me to introduce myself
I was searching for this comment. Actually sand shortage is a huge problem and there are many places in the world we people suffer from criminals illegally harvesting sand and destroying whole costs and ecosystems. Sand is actually the second most used material in the world. Right behind water. This is because it is used in the worlds most human build thing: concrete.
never knew that was true
@@GuerkHD this is only half correct, the sand shortage is beach sand, not desert sand for example. sand for concrete can only be used if its from a beach whereas for fiber optic cables it can come from the desert. this is due to the fact that sand eroded by water (beach) is more angled and thus sticks together better making better concrete. the sand used for fiber optic cables can be from deserts as it's melted and it's form is changed.
@@finlayjones714 You are absolutely correct. Thanks for specification.
Yes! Soon there will be no more sand!
I learn more from one video from you than I do a week in school😂 plus I feel what you talk about in these video tend to be more factually correct than teachers and you address real problems in places that can tend to get overlooked in episodes like this

how do you mine it
It was a meteor they just had to melt it into a different shape
@@angelarzola2438 that doesn't solve the problem. Melting is just the application of enough energy until the materials constituent particles have more kinetic energy than structural bonding energy. If you can melt it you can break it.
@@DeHerg yes but what I was saying is isn't melting much more effective than mining with tools and stuff?
@@angelarzola2438 In terms of both cost(money) and energy efficiency: no
Energy: breaking just a few bonds to extract a lump of material costs less then effectively disassembling the entire lump.
Cost(money): the higher amount of energy required to melt is still more costly than the expenditure for replacement tools.
The latter might change in the future depending where technology develops.
Although I omitted a little caveat: In the real world we mine ore not the refined metal, so we melt it anyway in the process. However melting it once(refinement) is still cheaper than doing it twice(mining+refinement). If we developed a technique that combined both steps in one that could change aswell (although again that's unlikely to happen due to the additional problem of heat conduction through the ore vein(melting a part would needlessly warm the rest of it, which is energy wasted))

If the paradox of plenty is so destructive then why is Norway One of the best countries to live in?
Norway exports A lot of oil not even the second largest industry in Norway reaches 10% but still Norway clings to democracy and is completely stable and has been like that since the time Norway discovered oil in the Norwegian economic area.
Hello everyone, a Venezuelan here, one that can not say anything also than thank you for Matt Patt for creating awareness about the current situation of my country and telling everyone how is that we actually live here (with the exception of the government and what we call “enchufados” that are corrupt citizens that gain money and power by supporting the government)
I’m 17 years old high school student about to get graduated, and I can tell you that I’m going through one of the toughest moments of my life. I’m actually lucky to be part of the 10% that is able to eat properly and have a good education, but those little things have costed me a lot. A lot my family moved to other countries to try in finding new opportunities and a better life, and I’m not going to be the exception of that case.
My mother actually moved to Panama to get a better job and a better life being broken hearted by the fact of living her son behind so I could finish my high school years here with some of the friends that have stayed. It has been really difficult for her, but because of all the effort she is putting to her job she is able to send us money every now and then so grandparents and me can eat properly every day. Not having my mom around have changed my life a lot, but that’s not the only thing...
All public services in this country are absolute garbage. I can barely have WIFI and even getting water in your house is difficult now a day, to the point where there are some days where I can’t even take a shower or wash my hands.
All this has also affected education in general. Both schools and universities have a shortage of teachers. There are no teachers now a days, I’m in my school currently missing two teachers in two different subjects, let it be because the salary was not enough or because they simply moved to another country. And you can seriously noticed the downgrade on the educational system all around the country.
There is also the insecurity. Venezuela currently have some of the most dangerous cities on the entire world. You can even see that most of the cities of the top ten are form Venezuela, being Caracas (the capital and the city where I live) the most dangerous city in the world. Getting killed, or rob or kidnaped is the most common thing in this city, it’s something that simply japonés all the time.
You have now idea how strange it feels to go to another country and being able to actually take out my phone without being worried about someone coming to me with a pistol and saying “give me your phone”
You may be asking yourself “if you have family outside the country, why you don’t go live with them”. Well, it’s actually not that simple, but getting out of this country is definitely my plan. As soon as I finish high school I will try to get an scholarship and leave this country as I can. And you can see that this is what most professionals are doing, because....
There is no future here, there is no improving , there is no normality, there is no opportunities.....
We Venezuelans don’t live, we survive.
Skrilbot ,👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾 *Slow claps*
Alany Walany wow, you really don’t know how is things work here. The owners of the stores don’t hide the goods because, first of all, the are not any goods to hide, how do you hope to even put something on the shelves if all the fabrics are abandon and al that we get is imported in dollars, dollars that of course not everyone has.
Also the government put regulations on the products that are of necessary need, take harina pan for example, the government says that every store should sale it at 70 thousand Bs. but the real price is 250 thousand bolívares Bs., so how the heck is the store and the owner and the fabrics supposed to produce and gain anything if they are literally losing money on every sell. So that lowers the production, makes the companies that offers good and services go to bankrupt and so as a result you have a shortage of everything and one of the biggest inflation of the entire world. And that’s just the tip of the iceberg
And also, I will like you to at least inform yourself about how is that thing actually work and what is really happening in the country before you do some comment like that. Because it really pissed me off reading such a none sense
You had enough money to buy the phone/ computer you commented on
We HAD MONEY, this country WAS great. Now a days things has changed, Only a few people has access to food daily imagine buying a computer or cellphone. You do not know what it is to live here and not be able to do anything. Seeing people sell everything they have to leave the country and have nothing somewhere else. Hearing news about people killing them self beacuase they have nothing to sell so they can leave the contry for a better life. Having to work since you are very young not to afford college but to afford existing because food is the only thing you will be able to buy if you are lucky. You do not get to judge us
You’re forgetting one thing though. Wakanda has been majorly isolationist for centuries. By that logic they would have the economic foundation to survive even when international trade stops
Exactly..like wakandans aren't even looking to trade anything. Vibranium is their way of life
exactlly, They never relied on internatonal trade, which means that, logiclly, nonexistent-International trade stopping wouldn't affect them
Gonna be honest, totally forgot about Tazerface until right now. But I gotta agree
@@argo1016 well id say that we dont know for sure they havent been working behind the scenes all those years. and if the comics are looked at, general wukandan life isnt actually that good, there is alot of things that are bad for many people. But just talking MCU, there are some other big problems. Wukanda isnt presented as a rich country, a majority of the people are basic workers and farmers, the country doesnt lean on wealth as an important factor of life, and they are protected by their tech from the things that other African locations deal with, namely, conflict.
That said, as climate change happens, their way of life is impacted heavily, and a country that lives primarily through agriculture is severaly at risk. Further more, the rest of the worlds is actually fairly close, i not already able to, with the help of allies made with space travling races and...norse gods, obtain either vibrainum from off earth locations, or infact, stronger materials we have seen in the other movies, and more advanced tech seen in other movies. Their military might is mostly stagnet, and frankly pretty lacking stratigically behind even modern weapons, let alone the power of what off world tech is bringing to earth. In ten years time, its entirely possible Wukanda wont be able to fight this agressive rise in tech other locations can bear on them.
@@OpticalShadow It may be true that extreme technology comes into play, but, As we've seen, the norse gods have mystical artifacts, and don't delve into technology too much. In fact, excluding their artfacts, (which btw were commisionend from a race of dwarves who are now almost all dead) They seem to be middle age tech at most. As far as all the examples go, wakanda is still the most advanced, (technology wise) in the series, with potential growth being made apparent by the "what if t'challa was star lord' episode of What if
It's true that as technology advances, the old wakanda may be eclipsed, but Wakanda is no stranger to technological advancements themselves. Not to mention, with the plot device that is vibranium, it wouldn't be so far fecthed to assume that wakanda could solve global warming on a small scale like their country.

Da Sherman Gamer exactly
Correct sir!
It isn't just Vibranium they're not selling, they just don't trade with the outside world.
Da Sherman Gamer they don't trade with the outside world at all. Everything they have is from themselves.
The problem here is: you think there is alternative. There is one: uru metal. And this one is not Earth-rare. It's entire world-rare. You can't replicate vibranium or uru metal. They are like nanocarbon and graphene but your Earth doesn't have any form of coal.
The second thing: They are closed community. They don't sell vibranium at all. They didn't even showed up to the world until they needed to in the first place.
They don't rely on money like we do. Therefore there will be no economy crash, because econony we know sorta doesn't exist there.
On top, assuming the world finds vibranium - they do not make SHIELDS out of it, they are the highest tech country in the world.
I learned more from this than my whole economics class.

Human nature: It gets the world to turn on its axis
Ummmm.... MatPat? I’m a huuuge fan, but I need to point out something here. Vibranium is NOT the reason why Wakanda is wealthy. While the characters may claim it is, it can’t be true. It was mentioned multiple times that Wakanda never exported Vibranium outside of the country (except possibly the material for Cap’s shield), which means that all of the Wakanda’s wealth must have been gained from separate exports. While the sudden exports of Vibranium caused by T’Challa opening up trade at the movie will probably ruin the economy, I’m not sure that it will happen exactly as you predicted. Again, I’m an absolute fan of Game/Film Theory, but I felt this had to be mentioned. In the meantime, remember that’s just a theory, A FILM THEORY(critique)!!!!!!!!
It will only ruin it if they provide it all at once instead of keeping it a secret and selling off small portions at a time. Instead they can focus on exporting technological advancements continue being self sufficient.
(Spoiler Warning!!!)
That’s a very good point, however, we know from the movie that T’Challa has no intentions of keeping Wakanda’s Vibranium reserve secret and making small trades. He says at the very end that Wakanda is prepared to share it’s knowledge and resources to the world, which includes the sharing of Vibranium economically in international trade.
Great point Matthew 👏👏
If anything it's Incan style command economy which was actually rather effective and worked pretty well
According to Ross, the only Wakandan exports that he knows of are things like sheep and textiles, with some vibranium that he thought was completely stolen by Klaue.

Shit poster, chill
TAZER FAAAAACCCE!
This is a great video, but it has a huge foundational flaw. Wakanda doesn't actually export vibranium lol. Also because of Wakanda's historical extreme isolationism their economy also isn't really based on trade at all. Remember they were considered an impoverished "third world" country by the rest of the world. Very few people even know that Wakanda is the source of vibranium. The black market on the stuff is certainly booming, but besides simply wanting to recover it just to keep it out of other's hands that isn't really a problem for Wakanda or the Black Panther.
Until the end of Black Panther, when T'challa reveals the secrets of Wakanda
Also the entire black market of vibranium was the amount that Kalue previously smuggled out, that Ultron got his hands on. Wakanda was an entirely self sustained domestic economy. If anything, they're probably ruining their country by letting the rest of the world in.
Aha! Now I don't have to make this comment. Yeah, they're entirely self-sufficient; trade doesn't matter to their economy in the least.
Alec Joseph u
Yeah, wakanda, even at the end of the film, isn't an exporter.

Wakanda forever!
Great film theory but after seeing the movie I saw a couple things that make me feel like playing devils advocate.
1. Vibranium is their key resource but I dont think its the only thing they can bring to the market. Their technology is so advanced that their soldiers have access to Stark level weapons so they have plenty to sell without vibranium.
2. I dont know if the comic clarifies but from the movie it seems that Wakanda is less of a country and more like a city-state so they probably dont have the same issues that a bigger country would have.
they also dont sell the metal at all, they even told the world their entire reserves had been stolen, the whole theory is tissue paper.
They don't sell vibranium or weapons since their whole thing is to pretend to be a shithole country.

Little caveat here, but sand, at least the one used to make fiber optics and construction is beach sand, not desert sand, because of the rounded shape of the latter it causes problems with the aglomeration of concrete. And they kind of elected him, they could challenge him. Also, we don't ever see what the other resources are, we don't know how much they have.

To be fair, a lot of the problems with a single-resource economy comes from selling that resource abroad, so if you pull a Wakanda and just keep all the vibranium to yourself, its price becomes low enough to not cause problems, rather than being kept high by all the demand outside the country.

I watched the movie once so I don't know if I'm right about this but I don't think it ever said they sold vibranium and I think that there rich because they used vibranium to make advanced technology
It actually works either way. They appear rich because of their advanced technology -- but they're not that advanced anymore and will soon be outpaced by everyone else, while simultaneously have tons of an ore no one cares about any more. So they couldn't trade in vibranium and they couldn't trade in technology. Which, again, they may decide to continue to be 100% isolated, but they wouldn't be a relatively advanced or wealthy country anymore.
But... the Wakandans never traded vibranium, the only way other people got it was threw finding it accidentally or smuggling it out. The world didn’t even know Wakanda existed until a few years ago. And everyone that it was poor. They’ve kept to themselves and all economic structure is in that country, not reaching out to any country. They also have more then one resource: technology and intelligence
Hardin Harrison I was thinking that and wasn't sure if I fully understand the video
Well... at the end of the movie, Wacanda decides to share their technology with the other nations so what Mat is trying to tell might happen after the end of Black Panther 1
i did say he wrote the script before watching the movie sooo i doubt he would have known about the end credit scene.
He assumes wakanda's only resource is vibranium but never does anything to prove it and if you took the time to look at all the things they have in the movie it shows undeniable proof of materials like straw, wood, electricity which means coal and water, planes need materials like steel, silicon, gold for their electrical parts.
Also they have explosives which implies gunpowder or other forms of explosive materiasl.
Neopolitan
Not to mention trained war rhinos. They have animal resources too.
Im halfway through and wow great episdoe. More interested in the real world stuff then the marvel stuff lol good job using it as a conduit
The Dishonored reference made me laugh. Thanks!
Moral of the Story: Diversify your economy. Keep an edge in the global market and keep an eye on research.
Neo Machine DEATH TO GLOBALISM!! WAKANDA FOREVER.
Trollerjak the Tyrannical God-Emperor of Trolls Isolationism is retarded
Globalism ruins lifes like cancer.
Moral of the Story: ethno nationalism works
In the comics, wakanda actually does this, diversifying their economy.
Have you ever accidentally said game theory for a film theory video?
Yes he has, and he made fun of himself afterwards
their no way your smarter by watching this video... in my case I'm very smart alrd, their no way for me to add more smart.
アップルパイ Smart has reached maximum capacity. Smart overload.
アップルパイ who the fuck said anything about becoming smarter they are talking about if Mat says game theory instead of film theory wrong place and it is kind if sad to brag about being smart when anyone can search up anything who cares if you are smart it's more about the people who are hardworking because there are a shit ton if people who are smart so is it really a bragging right if you haven't made something of yourself
アップルパイ i'd say you're smart, but not grammar smart.
How was Killmonger's rise to power legitimate? They've established that only royalty can challenge the current leader through battle on a specific day, Challenge Day. Killmonger didn't challenge T'challa on challenge day so even though he has a right to fight him he misses his opportunity. In all reality T'challa could've just ignored his challenge and simply went about his day🤷🏿♂️. Technically even him beating T'challa shouldn't have even matter cause it's not challenge day!

As a venezuelan, the fact that you talked about the topic made me happy
Andrés Álvarez De pana man
just one question ive been reading about what happend in venezuela and from what i understood the problem was not the price of oil since their were economic issues way before the price crash
Andrés Álvarez Coño marico si a mi me puso dem feliz
loren wood So the impact of the situation right now in unrivaled. Yes the reliance on oil has been an issue since the late 20th century but the reason why people are eating garbage on the streets is due to the corruption and incompetence of the current regime, which is also a modern dictatorship disguised as the so-called "Socialism of the 21st century".
The local population is dependent on government handouts to survive. That is a free choice that requires submission and brutal control. This was done through apathy and sloth of the adult population.
Just like the US is becoming, beggars who require another to wipe our ass and feed our children.
Though this is a great video, I just have to bring up the fact that Wakanda never exported Vibranium. Their trades was not solely based on Vibranium because they never traded it. Also another thing I noticed is that although T'Challa is the sole leader he has a council that helps him run the nation, insight on what his people need and what else he "should" do to better Wakanda. Third, when the one member of the council mentions the world is catching up, he doesn't mean the world is close to an alternative to Vibranium, since it is not a metal that is in high demand in the Marvel Universe, meaning that there would be no need for an alternative. Vibranium also seems like the element that everyone cares the least about otherwise Tony Stark probably would have a suit made up of it. Great video though!
As I said in another comment... it doesnt make any sense that Wakanda 'never' traded or exported their resource... Sure there's a lockdown on it in the modern age but here's a rundown on what probably happened.
"The only way a fictional 'self-sufficient utopia' like Wakanda, which currently in the Modern age has a lock-down on Vibranium, could work, would be if in the ancient past it traded away or leveraged some of its vital resource (Vibranium) to then gain funds which would allow it to develop and harness the resources as a military resource. They would then use this superior military tech to subjugate and raid the other peoples and in return gain an abundance of other resources. That would explain why the axe from the start of the movie got out, why Stark and the Americans had some Vibranium and would explain why their monarch is an armoured, militaristic, war-god. It is also explained in their history where the T'challa clan (don't know their family title) subjugated and unified the remaining tribes. They've probably built their entire monarchy and dynasty on the exploitation of Vibranium as a military resource to just pillage and levy all the remaining tribes. Once they had enough resources (gold, precious metals, livestock, land) they can then cultivate and harness these resources to cycle up their society, funneling whatever profits into vibranium development so it no longer is a complete military resource... They now use vibranium for tech and infrastructure and can lock away the rest of this resource from the outside world... Their dev of vibranium now allows them to make a constant cycling of profits to benefit every industry and the profits go back into the society. All built on centuries of pillaging and war... Pretty awful self-sufficient utopia right there."
Yes, but Mattpat used his hypothesis as if Wakanda traded vibranium to gain other resources in modern times when they kept it in their own society. What you said actually makes the whole economy of Wakanda make a bit more sense so thanks for that but that would have happened in the past. Thinking that vibranium was traded to other countries to fuel Wakanda's economy was just a small mistake Mattpat made.
It's isn't really accurate to say they _never_ traded Vibranium. Cuz let's be honest, Vibranium is their *_only_* valuable resource. And we never really see how they provide basic needs for their citizens. To make things simple, let me ask you a question. How do they get food? We never see any huge factories, plantations, or farms that would help them in being a self-sustaining nation. So the only possible way is to buy imports. But how would they do that if there was no inflow of money? They can't.
So now let's say that they do have money. Where does it come from? Their government provides everything from education to jobs. And someone else in the comments said that Wakanda doesn't need money because they made everything all for the sake of Wakanda's betterment and laborers never needed a salary. And that's where I call Cowdung. Their citizens don't need money and they refuse to trade their only resource that's of value yet they're so economically stable? That's like saying I passed all my college classes even though I was absent for an entire semester. It's impossible and absurd.
So now, how do they do it? Through trade. Trading what? Their precious Vibranium. With whom? You may ask. We never see other cities in the Marvel Universe that uses Vibranium, right? Wrong. We know Cap's shield is made out of the stuff so it can only mean other types of defensive machines and weaponry have been made with this. We know that it's the strongest metal in the Marvelverse so it would only make sense that people will want it. But by who, you might ask again. Simple. The higher-ups. The people who control the productions of weaponry. The Government. We know that Vibranium has different variations and that these variations are found in isolated regions across the world. One variation that was even called "Anti-Metal" could cut through any known metal. So power hungry politicians are going to want to get their hands on this stuff because it would give them an amazing advantage should war ensue.
And the same goes for the villains. This mineral would be able to give them the upper hand and finally the chance to succeed in their plans. Which in turn will make the Heroes also want it. Because they would need to study and reverse engineer it if they want to develop a metal stronger than it to defend themselves should any villain ever obtain it. And how would they do that without causing war? By buying it. And who can sell it? Wakanda. So, they sell small amounts of Vibranium at a high price and that's where there money comes from.
Maybe they sold it to Howard Stark? He got a small amount of vibranium trade goods. Also the random "relic" that was found in Black Panther movie.
The one Klaw wanted to steal and sell. Clearly vibranium makes it way outside Wakanda either by purpose or by accident.
Wait a minute the is still the possibility that the nation has its own factories supplying the nation, considering that everything has a cloaking field and its not as if wakanda is the wealthiest in currency when the movie starts they say they say they have the lowest currency. Remember the end of the movie when the politician said "what can a nation of farmers do" this in itself tells us they dont keep the primary resources secret ie food resources. who is to say they cant farm their own shrimp in a shrimp farm if they want delicacies.
Secondly who said meteors can only land on one country yes black markets would play a part in some exports but the more likely occurrence is that other smaller meteors could have landed else where in the world creating very small pockets of vibranium.
What i don't understand is how can a nation be watching youtube videos( i say this because "what are those!!!") yet the isnt a country or youtube picking up the network feeds.
matpat, thank you very much for the dishonored reference (my favourite game ever made) when you were talking aout whale oil
The thing is, Wakanda doesn’t just rely on its vibranium. It was self-sufficient for centuries without the help of other countries, so it isn’t necessary to sell vibranium. The country is completely fine, T’Challa made the choice to open the borders so they could share their wealth, so I doubt they have many financial issues
I thought Tazerface was the worse villain name
Brandon Carrillo he didn't know that
Tazerface ia arguably the best villan name ever..
It made for a good joke. So in that sense it was successful.
Yeah, but the real problem here is who is Black Panther going to take on for the sequel? Because all three of Black Panther's enemies are clearly not going to come back. Spoiler: Klaw/Ulysses Klaue and Killmonger died, and the White Gorilla (M'Baku) is now a good guy or ally of T'challa. Or will their be no sequel?
Brandon Carrillo it is lol
I just watched the movie, I don't think they even sell the vibranium. In fact, I don't think they even interact with the global market at all.
BlueHawkPictures they don't. His theory is flawed.
Yeah, he hadn't watched the movie yet so he didn't know.
BlueHawkPictures they do at the end of the movie don't they?
@David The Great
I'm not gonna say any spoilers here, but just think about it. I highly doubt they are going to sell their Vibranium when that was actually the antagonist's whole plan from the start. I'm gonna assume they aren't giving away the Vibranium by itself, but maybe instead using it to help the disenfranchised around the world.
I have a possible theory
What’s stronger, vibranium or beskar ( beskar from Star Wars the mandalorian tv show)
5er is a actual unit in drug deals. Depending on the drug a couple of different meanings. In pot it's five grams, I regards to pot oil, it's 5 grams again but usually comes in a full 7g tube
You forget one thing though. Vibranium isn’t Wakanda’s only major recourse. They just happen to be the only country with it. They also have coal, diamonds and uranium.
The only thing that has any value is uranium diamond can be syntheticly made and coal isnt all that costly they would still have a big problem
It's BeeRay not to mention textiles *wink wink*
Also the use it as a source of power and protection not currency they plan on dispersing it to many centers around the world, not just selling it in an open market for the whole world to buy
Also the world isn’t relying on vibraniam cuz most of them don’t even know it exists.
Not to mention they have a lot more advanced technology than any other country
OMG This video actually is helping me for my Economics midterm tomorrow 😂😄👌🏼
AudreyAG same
Except it’s not, cause Wukanda is a traditional economy and not a C&C economy...
Jordan Thompson well no but we were learning about the basics of supply and demand, this video just gave me a perfect example on what it looks like when there’s too much surplus in one given area
AudreyAG Gotch! gl tomorrow!
sounds like you weren't studying hard enough already. It gets a lot harder mate, get into it.
Rip legend
Rest in peace Chadwick Boseman
Someone hasn't been paying attention AND hasn't tried to think outside the box on this one. It's been established that Wakanda doesn't sell any vibranium, and can create technology that is literally centuries ahead of the rest of the world. Using this technology, it is easy to assume that they have such efficient monitoring that virtually no vibranium escapes to the black market, which is why Klaue was so proud of being the only person to have seen Wakanda and stolen a tiny bit of its treasure. And it has been established that the capabilities of vibranium are far beyond that of any other material; it has no substitute. Wakanda has prospered and its people are very well-educated and modern, and Shuri is considered the most intelligent person in the world, so it is also not crazy to assume that the head-start provided by such technological advancement would result in her creating a substitute for vibranium first, if its even possible. Adamantium is probably on the way, so it's likely to be the closest substitute for vibranium used in the same manner as Captain America's shield, but vibranium has been repeatedly shown to be far more versatile in application than just as a strong metal. Adamantium has not.
As for how the country prospers...there are countless ways. Wakanda has futuristic, magnet bullet trains with sonic dampers that can actually cancel out the properties of a metal somehow. They have technology that can heal almost any wound. They can fly jets remotely using VR, and even communicate with and control wildlife. They can even harness and manipulate kinetic energy into pretty much anything they like. Perhaps they have unlimited sources of renewable energy because of this. Perhaps vibranium-based machines can process metals and other materials to sell to other countries. Perhaps they make and sell oil or gold using middle men. Perhaps Wakandans can literally create food, and pretend they are just conventionally farming or producing. And while their technology does all the heavy lifting that other countries must deal with, Wakandans can study, train, and travel. Given that they have several undercover expats, perhaps they are profiting this way. The best surgeons, lecturers, soldiers, political advisers, and industrialists of the world could easily be Wakandan, and accumulating wealth that eventually returns to their homeland. After all, Killmonger was easily able to hide his heritage and be accepted as an American, and he made a name for himself at MIT and with American special forces. Long story short, there are a million ways that Wakandans could theoretically use their magical metal and profit from it without selling it to anyone, or compromising their generally isolationist stance. Unlike other countries, a monopoly on vibranium could lead to vast amounts of virtually any other resource, which means that Wakandan rulers have had it pretty easy when it comes to dealing with the needs of their people. All they have really had to do is maintain secrecy over their methods well.
I like your theories Matpat but this one was poorly thought-out.
Too bad the message of the movie is that "You can only be successful if you live in a fairy land where magic exists, or if you get a good roll on the Dice of Intelligence"
Sahir Khan well thought out explanation.. but why are they opening up their Marvel's to other countries now..
Thus it's a marval film and all fiction.
Bit That wasn't really the message of the movie...
Sahir Khan at the end of the movie they heavily lean towards opening the selling of vibranium
1:06 Tazerface is worse than Killmonger
WellOwlBe but that was a deliberate bad/funny name where this one is just bad
At least Tazerface was ironic.
WellOwlBe taserface was amazing
I have no idea what you people are talking about. Both names are phenomenal.
I wish they just referred to him as Erik, which is his first name. Not exactly a villainous and menacing name but I think it would suit him well to be honest.
I'm a fiber optic splicer and listening to this while working- kinda freaked me out when he mentioned what I was working on lol
Sweet and funny explanation of basic economic evolution. Bravo. You’re the future, the vision.
