With another mutant war on the horizon in X-Men Apocalypse, I thought it high time to start looking into the powers and weaknesses of these extra-normal humans and prep some strategies on how to handle some of the franchise's heavy hitters. And who better to begin with than the man himself - Magneto.

@Randy Chavez true
In the comics he can absolutely control all magnetism. He can even control the human bodies electrochemical signals, once freezing the X-Crew and stopping them from using their powers.
@Kaos Nova actually he does electromagnetism and magnetism are not the same thing. Magnetism is a subset if electromagnetism along with electrostatic. Magneto's power over magnetism allows him to access the emission spectrum but his main dominant power isn't me manipulation but magnetism. Hence why his most powerful feats all involve him sojng something with metal.
This must have been created before cinematic magneto was upgraded closer to his comic book counter part after X-men apocalypse
yes but, he has a magnetic field of 1,000,000 Tesla so even para magnetic materials, including Wood, can be controlled by his magnetic field.
I'm sorry it's 100,000,000 Tesla, as calculated at 6:49 seconds in the video. And yes Wood can be manipulated by strong magnetic fields. so can Aluminum, and other Materials.
So you just debunked this theory in two comments? IMPRESSIVE
Dude, you also have an expanded mind. I never would have thought of that!
Although I am 12... but still! I love the X-Men franchise its so amazing with its unique story and how they implemented it around the other mutants but sadly its gotta come to an end some day............
Anything with the power of a neutron star would be op as fuck.
The sad thing is with that great of a Magnetic field he would not only be able to move wood, dirt, anything basically but he would also destroy and kill animals as a lot of them (Birds for one) use a small magnet inbed in their brain, humans had or have one too I think..., it would totally mess up their sense of direction, not only that but he could become....... the 3rd magnetic pole of the EARTH!!! North, South, Magneto, poles. lol
The reason Quicksilver had to save Magneto and the reason he got hot was because they were special plastic bullets, not metallic ones.
I, too, consider plastic to be arousing.
actually those were glass bullets. and I always find it slightly hilarious that the officers have spare glass bullets for their f*cking glass ass guns, and a glass baton. I'd actually think a glass baton is the worst item to give these guys, I'm pretty sure that one strike and the baton will shatter causing more cuts to injure who they attack will giving them a potential bruising. ouch
"I'm not iron man, I'm nickel-titanium alloy man"
* he says “gold-titanium alloy”
Nickel is ferromagnetic, as stated in the video, tony actually uses a gold-titanium alloy.
@@steve_urchin8536 either way, Titanium is attracted to magnets, it just has to be a strong magnet and I don't think I have to explain how strong Magneto's magnetic field is
Those bullets were specifically made with no metal, specifically to use against him. Master of magnetism but only one part, that's like somebody having super strength but only in one arm

The term "full metal jacket" refers to the total covering of the lead core by a copper jacket. No gun fires a steel cased round. It would damage the steel of the barrels rifling. The steel cased ammo that is discussed is the cartridge of the ammunition not the projectile. There is a thing called steel core ammunition. This has a steel penetrator in the core of the round instead of the lead core that most bullets have.
The nickle cased rounds are also just the jacket of the cartridge, not the bullet itself.
Excactly.
Glad someone else caught this. Surprised I had to dig this far down to find it. Ha.
I was just coming to help explain this exact thing
Well that, and the fact that hollow points are used to keep from overpenetration and collateral damage as opposed to more damage on target
As far as I know, a lot of cheap Russian ammo is actually bimetal jacketed which means it has a steel jacket plated with copper or zinc. There is most definitely steel jacketed ammo but probably not what was used in X-Men.
I've always been under the impression that, despite his name, Magneto's power was "control of metal," not *actual* magnetism. The problem he would have with bullets isn't a matter of magnetism or anything, it's a matter of reaction time. It's not like he has spider sense or something.
Matpat, you're completely wrong dude.
1. Magneto can manipulate ferrous and non ferrous metals. He does this all the time in the comics. The dude can manipulate shit on an atomic level. Do some research.
2. In the scene with Quicksilver, the guns and bullets are all plastic.
The bullet he fires at night isn't ferrous. Even if the casing is it's the bullet shot out not the casing.
He simply controls metal
plastic bullets, seriously , really that who thing is kinda silly if you don't suspend disbelief. I can get plastic gun (are real, just awful.). that scene is cool tho

i was looking for this comment! have a nice day, sir!
Your theory is wrong. At levels of magnetism that high, non-ferrous molecules would align and could be manipulated magnetically. Look up the floating or levitating frog. If he were as you described, his power would be indistinguishable from telekinesis.
Instead, let's look at a less rational idea to help find truth. Proposal: Magneto is a run-of-the-mill telepath. With his powers, he can only "see" specific metals - possibly those ferrous metals. That makes his limitation about targeting.
Because telepathy is metaphorically based in one's ability to organize, the inability to target is the inability to affect.
Thank you for saying it so I didnt have to.
Yeah, that was the first thing, that came to my mind after watching the video. And this is basic knowledge, so Mat really messed this one up :S

who has the electromagnetic force of a magnetar (magnetic pulsar, a kind of neutron star) can also control any material that you, humans have (and they, in the movies, have)... he could vaporize a polyethylene bullet in mid-air, he could even disable a thermonuclear bomb... if you want to defeat him you basically need a mutant that has control over the strong nuclear force (but sometimes even that isn't enough)...
+Neo Machine he definitely can

(Guys I’m being sarcastic)
Actually, I THINK either Professor X or even Jean was using their telekinetic abilities to protect the officer. Plus I imagine that given Magneto's ability to use magnetic fields as flight ability, he can also generate a magnetic field as a shield to deflect an incoming ballistic type weapon.
But if his focus is split. Say focusing on controlling the movement of something or someone and not creating a magnetic shield, it might be very difficult to create one quick enough to deflect the incoming round unless he's trained trained himself to do so.
Exactly!
Technically with enough teslas of magnetic force, you can manipulate copper, even with MRI machines. I’m pretty sure.

Magento can technically manipulate, or at least disintegrate, all matter, by manipulating the strong and weak nuclear force on atoms and molecules.
yes, any metal that is conductive is also affected by magnetic fields if it is moving. its called induction and would stop the bullets.
you can see it well in this video
czcams.com/video/sENgdSF8ppA/video.html
Your right. With a strong enough magnetic field everything, even wood or plastic, can be theoretically manipulated with that field. If MatPat's math is correct Magneto should be able to manipulate more than ferromagnetic metals.

This is probably the first video I don't agree with. Magneto can definitely control all forms of magnetism, and the bullets that he couldn't control in Days of Future Past were straight up plastic bullets.
If he could control all types of magnetism, and he would be able to manipulate water because it is diamagnetic.
For me, Earth-616 Magneto IS Magneto. We have to distinguish the canon version of the character with the movie version. Yes you are right. All known matter in the Universe is diamagnetic, especially water.
Even focusing a magnetic field of 10 million tesla (10% of his video-stated energy output) into a group of human beings would not only liquefy their organs and shatter their bones, but their very DNA would be irreparrably damaged as magnetic fields of cosmic strength make biological processes impossible to occur.
Scientists exposed human red blood cells to a magnetic field of 5 mT (millitesla) and found that within 10 minutes, they had elongated. Imagine the damage wrought by a field billions of times that.
Cheers.
He's going by what we've see in the movies, the same way game sonic can't go at the speed of light like he can in the comics and cartoon...

"Encased with a copper jacket"

That got me too
Or when he shows the entire round being fired ..lol
@@airjustice1 lmao yeah, I just watched that back
Yes, it was painful. Matt needed to research how the rounds work. The bullet is just the metal bit at the end. The casing holds the gun powder and stays with the gun/shooter.
Yeah I noticed that it bothers me
What's even more awesome is that magneto actually creates 2 fields in opposition. That's that only way he can keep an object in a fixed position.
So what ever he use to lift the bridge he also needs the same to fix its position. All magnets causes instantaneous acceleration to or from itself.
So given the size of objects he levitates, magneto is not the one doing the work. He's using the earth's core and the objects own field.
So much for completing any series
Let’s forget about the time he controlled the bullet and made it hit Mystique
Haha and the one when he tried to save JFK

@@Jawnwickk maybe its one kf those ferrous bullets
He did say at the time of 1998 they stopped using ferrous bullet yet the time he pulled out the bullet was way before that
So maybe the bullets at that time were ferrous type bullets
...but in the comics he can manipulate all metals, and he's controlled bullets many times. I get this is "film theory" but if something with the film clashes with something in the comic you give the win to the comic, the comics are canon.
Except you're overlooking the fact that Marvel works on a multi-universal scale. The movies are canon, Earth 10005. It's just a different Magneto than the main series of comics uses.
Yeah, maybe its a movie thing, I dont remember the source, but I'm pretty sure that Marvel has said that Magneto can control all forms of magnetism, and that his powers are endless (the comic Magneto).... sooo sorry Mat, ferrous or non ferrous he still can control.
Jean Rodrigues Wrong Magneto, plus Marvel has no say in the limitation of this Magneto's power. Comics mean nothing in this situation.
Yeah movies have their own cannon but for cases where you're looking to fill in the gaps of a character, comics are the perfect source and since there was no obvious clash with comic cannon here then I'd say it's fair enough to draw a lot of evidence from the comics.
Maybe the writer was too stupid to realize Magneto's limitations.
I went deep in the vault for theories to hold me over until new ones get dropped and this is my first time seeing this intro. I love it 😭
MatPat: Magneto should not be able to stop copper plated bullet, since it is not ferromagnetic.
Electromagnetic induction: laughs in squirrel-cage induction motor
Dude ever hear of eddy currents? A 100 Tesla magnet can actually stop lead. And levitate water for that matter.
water have metal in it does it not?
+blackheavymetalman well not h2o but most natural ocuring water does indeed
Oh it's Cody, love your stuff dude
+blackheavymetalman That's not why it can be levitated. Water molecules are polar, so they all behave like tiny magnets in a way.
Plus water itself is a little bit magnetic, or at least the oxygen in it is. Has something to do with the spin of the electrons in it.
the bullets and guns in the quicksilver scene is plastic
Not the bullets
No, you can tell they're non-metalic. They appear translucent, or at the very least whitish in color, both when Quicksilver is redirecting them and in the chambers of the revolvers. If they aren't plastic, they're at least something that appears transparent/translucent like glass. They definitely aren't metalic.
But he's not controlling the bullets. It doesn't matter, be they copper or plastic, magneto still relied on Quicksilver to get them out of the way
they are not plastic they are glass
It. Doesn't. Fucking. Matter
1 thing Matpat forgot: as he said ‘Copper is almost completely non-ferromagnetic metal.’ This is to us. We have to remember that Magneto has the power rivalling a neutron star. Our magnets are pathetic compared to Magneto’s power. Yet copper is the tiniest bit ferromagnetic to us, meaning that Magneto has complete control over copper
Very very Nice analytical theory of this topic!!! :) definitely enjoyed this entertainment!:)
didnt the guns in Days of Future Past fire plastic bullets?
I think it was ceramic bullets, based off of the trask thermoceramic bullets the sentinels fired.
thats what im saying! lol
I believe the bullets in DOFP are plastic? Correct me if I'm wrong
They are
No they’re glass
Plastic
@@jadenchen8921 you can't fire a glass bullet. It would break before leaving the barrel
Exactly
So steel casings are just a cheaper alternative to brass. The steel parts don't leave the gun, the "full metal jacket" usually refers to a copper coating on the bullet itself to protect the gun from lead buildup.
Steel cored bullets are a thing, used for penetration rather than the stopping power of softer metal bullets.
I came here looking for someone calling out MatPat’s bullet misinformation. Thank you! 🤗

Whether or not you say that, in the movie they were plastic bullets. In plastic guns, designed specifically to guard magneto. They don't hide that fact.
they are celium bullets.
everyone is forgetting one thing, bullets lose their casings once they are fired. myth busted.
Actually (don't know how) Magneto do gain some level of power over "non-magnetic" metals as demonstrated in first class. At the beginning of the movie Erik cannot move the coin to save his mother because that specific coin is made of non-magnetic metal. However at the end of the movie he can move that non-ferros coin with surgical precision to slowly pierce Shaw's skull. It might be more difficult for him but if he can move a bridge made of iron I'm pretty sure he can stop something as small as a bullet.
I really liked what this is going, but there's only one problem. They're plastic bullets on the other ones. They're just so quick that he doesn't have time to focus on them. But the majority doesn't hit him or that he can't
actually he controls all metals he's not a magnet he's a bender of metal
Calm down there, Toph Bei Fong. Film Theory relies on films and not comics. Film Magneto can bite comic Magneto's shiny robot ass.

Whole new appreciation to the writers/researchers
magneto controlled a penny in first class, pennies are made of copper
Pennies are actually made of zinc, which is magnetic when in a strong enough field.
+Sam Moss actually they've only been zinc after 1982, before that they were copper. first class takes place in the 60s
You're right. Although I want to say they were brass? So would have small amounts of zinc maybe
+Sam Moss 95% copper 5% zinc, still though it's more than likely he can control copper.
True, more of a nitpick than anything
No those bullets were plastic
I'm talking about the most recent x men movies
And he bend a lead bullet in xmen future past
Andre's right. All the guns, and their bullets were made of plastic. Now sure how to heck they made a plastic gun (that is lethal) but Magneto is shot by plastic which is why he couldn't switch the bullet.
Then again I guess it only proves the point more. Use non ferrous bullets my friend. In Mother Russia you don't shoot bullets, bullets shoot you.
People can 3d print working guns, it can be done but it's not easy.
Yo dude i love your 8-bit xmen intro. 👍👍😀😀 It was epic

im just watched the intro yet and i immediatly have to say no, in the comics this confrontation happens multiple time, and iron mans suit is specifically not magnetic, depending on the specific suit as there are multiple, sometimes it just happens to be made out of fictional materials that are not magnetic, and sometimes he created them with the thought in mind, that magneto is out there
That intro though.
Also magneto's prison break was, for lack of a better word, metal AF
Umm mat pat in the quicksilver scene and on alcatraz those were both plastic guns and bullets
...so? Plastic is also non-ferrous. Still applies just the same if they were the non-ferrous copper bullets. MatPat's point still stands.
I was gonna say the same thing
+Silverizael No, his point doesn't stand if he was wrong about the bullets.
Not too important, but bullets are traditionally made out of lead, as its softness can avoid ricochet, but your point still stands.
It was in the Pentagon
quicksilver is the coolest mostly because of that one scene in Days of Future Past
hes even better in apocalypse
and in apocalypse
true
I agree 😂
Yed
Love these vids
Magneto's powers in the comics affect the entire electromagnetic spectrum. The movies like most animated features have never clearly displayed his powers. if his powers were solely ferromagnetic your theory would be dead on. I attribute the oversight of how his powers work to most writers not having a clear understanding of the science behind it. If you'd like an amusing take on that watch the Spiderman and his Amazing Friends episode with Magneto in it.
The bullets in the quicksilver scene are anti magnito rounds made of cheramics and plastics?
The same with the shot that hits his neck in the stadium.
This Guy needs to watch a the movie before talking shit about it.
Yes, but that's just classic MattPatt.
+Jonatan S and how did he curl bullets in days of future past
It wasn't Anti magneto bullets but bullets of metal and he didn't try to stop them, he just tried to push them aside and they hit the prof by accident.
/sorry to pop ur bubble, but you did misunderstand his powers his name may be magneto, but in the commic he can controll ALL metals, witch caused a HUGE problem for ironman, who made a Non-ferro magnetic metal just to fight him..as he says in the comic "You dare challenge me? the master of METAL?"
As for the quick silver and neck shot seen, those bullets are 100% Plastic! you failed epicly on this one mattpat, good try though.
He based on FILM not COMIC,that's what his channel is about,FILM theory
+PizzaCat the videos called Magneto's fatal weakness, not Magneto's fatal weakness in the movies and he never says this is only true in the movies, so I'm assuming he's going off of every version ( maybe not every version, there's some really weird versions of Magneto in the comic books trust me lol) of Magneto
+El_Theodred Felix He used all of the footage and fact(not all)from the movies only,he never use anything from the comic for his theories just like he do with his other superhero vids.So he had made it very clear before that he don't use comic as fact but use movies as fact.I thought everyone should know about this when they watch his vids
+El_Theodred Felix don't see why he would seeing as how he didn't for the superman vid
Just the movies
+PizzaCat what are the movies based off of again... oh that's right the comic books. it's a good theory but it was disproved by a simple Google search, try it Google what are Magneto's powers or here I did it for you
Powers and abilities. Magneto is a mutant with the power to manipulate magnetic fields to achieve a wide range of effects. The primary application of his power is control over magnetism and the manipulation of ferrous and NONFERROUS metal.
After this video was made: Magneto is now on MCU, Iron Man is dead
Yesss now I can say to my teacher next science lesson.... next year when we are out of lockdown I guess that she didn't tell us it was ferromagnetism and apparently autocorrect doesnt know what it is
No.There are 7 Types. The 7th is FERRERO magnetism. This magnetism is made out of hazelnuts and a glorious peanut in the center!
"This magnetism is made out of"
Wow, you must have a PHD in physics. :P
...Not to mention the rest of his comment. ^
It was a joke, friends.
But if Magneto uses it too much he's gonna get diabetes.
Cool
"Magneto's greatest feat is the bridge scene"
*Apocalypse quietly chuckles in the background*
In the movies maybe but not comics
@@eddiegreencheez Ik. It's a joke. Calm down.
@@carbinecryo30716 I am calm. Didn't mean it to seem otherwise
@@carbinecryo30716 how was he not calm, he wasnt hostile at all
This was made before that movie came out, just sayin
I appreciate the intro way more now that I’ve seen the actual thing
I really liked this music but I feel like I cannot enjoy the other one as much anymore because of this part not being as loud in that version 0:23
Speedy boi b like "no worry, dad. I won't lose you again to cops!"
Magneto manipulates the entire planet in X-Men Apocalypse, MatPat. Bit more than the Golden Gate Bridge.
Well we have a nickel-iron core in the center of the planet
He probably didn't want to spoil the film for people
That was a very cool scene
@ZackRToler Doesn't high temperature kinda negate that?
Ultimate Castaway Or maybe he decided to conclude and publish his research right before the next X-men movie came out. ;)
Matpat, Magneto has the ability to control ALL forms of magnetism. Not just ferromagnetism.
*not just a theory
Now if you'll excuse me, I have medical bills to pay. An arrow in the knee can cause life long consequences.
Technically it's the entire electromagnetic spectrum, just has more finesse over the magnetism part
The electromagnetic spectrum is a tad bit different from magnetism. The EM spectrum does involve magnetism though, but it isn't part of it in the same way light is. It's more so of a building block.
+Marco Aguiar plus the bullets he's shot with are plastic
Watch the skies traveler
Plus he said it himself it is "almost" completely non ferromagnetic, so not totally non ferromagnetic, and he is a stronger magnet than anything we have on earth, so he could have just been so powerful that he could stop bullets and bend physics to whatever he wants : )
Jacketed rounds are the copper colored bit at the end. The case is usually brass.
I learned a lot of random knowledge about magnets and bullets today! I never knew about the 6 kinds of magnets or what kinds of bullets are used by law inforcement.
