It sounds like the LVCVA hired the ACES players as employees who now work for the LVCVA as hosts to the city. Which is not illegal to do and may side step any state laws regarding spending of tax revenue. The LVCVA is funded by room taxes and does not generate any income from outside sources.
I am very okay with this it helps the Wnba the front office need to learn more marketing and management skills
I think that between the stars complaint about the fact that the league is finally getting attention that will boost all of them, and the league complaining that companies are stepping up for their local teams. No.wonder they are a league that has never made a profit! Too busy biting the hand that feeds them to use the new found notoriety to propelled them to where they claim they "deserve" to be!
Will stop all this fashion show junk on CZcams and just played basketball
Exactly why Angel, Brink, and CC should’ve stayed in college. That league’s leadership is 🗑️ That league could be on verge of taking off, but leadership in that league will lose all the momentum they got now and we will stop caring and watching.
This league is hell bent on killing itself
U should never leave someone wide open no matter who it is, but we pull out the w and won the national championship
Why not? A local company sponsors the Minnesota Lynx- The Mayo Clinic!
More of us will watch, and pay for, the WNBA than NBA, or NFL. Women are better team players than men. The women deserve more money.
Well the women need to get and fil the arenas. There's a reason 2 years ago. The NCAA women's final 4 had 4.5 million views. This past year it was 12 million viewers. LSU, South Carolina and Iowa plated great games those 2 seasons. WNBA is still having to get support from the NBA. So getting more money. They have a lot more butts to put in the arena consistently. Those 3 colleges played a lot more exciting basketball than the WNBA. They need to learn from it to grow their fan bases. Shut down the hate being spew by the jealous old guard and appreciate the new fans supporting at the moment.
So well.said. pay the players a percentage of the PROFIT. That would be fair, but then none of the players would get paid at all, then they wouldn't like fair anymore. I enjoy the women's game, I think its a truer version of the game, but I have turned off the WNBA because there are so many players that are so proud of being victims that they are honestly hard for me to root for. I'm a basketball fan, not.a political agenda fan.
I understand why there is an investigation. When I saw the video of rhe guy announcing the $100K gift, I automatically wondered how this could be allowed. Like, we can just sidestep the salary cap and pay players on the side and say it's an endorsement? Now, every team can do the same. Some of the owners are billionaires. They could attrack any talent they want for the minimum salary and just give them "endorsements". 😂
Kate don't take a penny from these crooks. It's pure money laundering & corruption, what do you expect from sin city Vegas (gambling mecca) & their suspect coach. 😮
I think it's great of that company supporting the local players, all of the local playerrs equally.
Of course, they should be a lot to accept the sponsorship
This is WHY the #WNBA will ALWAYS be #STUGGLING
*Cracks knuckles* I'll be nice. The term "investigation" (In this instance) is a code word for stalling to see any potential blowback from cackling hens from other teams, while simultaneously pondering any potential sponsors/agents, using "donations" to circumvent the cap. Given that this act of generosity is unprecedented, I will give it time to breathe. I don't like it for the players but it makes sense for the league.
This video is 10,000% accurate. And I am a huge WNBA fan, but they can’t get out of their own way.
Other leagues been the rule to grow the game and grow the league. The WNBA just seems stubborn right now and that they are so focused on fairness that they are missing opportunities right in front of their face. There is never an even playing ground in pro sports. Look at every league and tell me every small market team can compete with all the big market teams. Even the NFL with a hard salary cap, they still have very uneven facilities and marketing and travel and all of that stuff depends on the individual team not the league. Certain teams play on grass whose owners care about the players and certain teams owners don’t give a shit and they put them out there on turf and they get injured. Just look at the New York Jets cheap ass owner and Aaron Rodgers last year. The NFL owners are so cheap some of them that they are going to pay to convert their stadiums to grass to host World Cup games because FIFA will not put their players on turf, then they are going to change the stadiums back to turf because they are so cheap they don’t want to pay for the upkeep of grass. This is a $12 billion a year industry that doesn’t care if its assets get injured because they don’t want to pay the upkeep on grass. No that’s different depending on what team you play for. Some owners do care and some don’t. So give me a break about pro sports and fairness. It’s even worse in college with your big massive brands that pay kids and smaller schools that can’t.
I don’t understand men’s players get endorsements that are outside of their salary. Isn’t this just the entire team getting one big endorsement? It’s not from the team.
No. It was specifically structured outside of the team as to not violate the 'extra benefits' rules.
I am a WNBA fan, but they cannot get out of their own way. Like why would you start Caitlin Clark with the hardest schedule in the league? Do you want her to fail or struggle and kill the momentum? I know she will be fine and have a successful career that’s not the point of this comment. The point of this is about growing the popularity of the game , and promoting it the right way. The WNBA has to understand that their business is entertainment first and basketball second. They are an entertainment company whose product of entertainment is basketball. The veteran players to have to decide are you going to be bitter at the younger players for getting things you didn’t get? Or are you going to realize that’s the only way progress can be made by younger people getting things that older people didn’t get. That is literally the definition of progress, but now that progress is coming. They are so jealous, they might just destroy it before it can happen.
WNBA leadership..taking any punative action will more than likely negatively affect the roll the teams are on.
What does the fever coach earn, 10 bucks a game. Looks like it.
lol the WNBA needs to be investigated for racism
The league wants their cut of the $100,000 for each player. That's all.
If the players do not get their cut of the new revenue flow (probably in the billions for the ownership and the league), they will go overseas, and the wnba will regress back to a low viewership league.
The league is probably thinking it’s a low key unfair way to bring in top players to their team because of the higher income, eventually having a dream team if you will. I think if her Clark will raise everyone’s salary if her coach can get her head out of her ass and let go of her ego. It’s not your team anymore when the boss is the one bringing the money to everyone
They're in the pros now. It seems like if it's a reputable company, it makes sense to make that move from a marketing point of view. I can understand if there's a safety/security risk, but it seems like that's the type of thing they're addressing, in a way. It looks like people are trying to invest, but there are some issues that need to be worked out.
The players had abssolutely no knowledge of this - it was a complete surprise. The LVCVA structured it as a NIL so it wouldn't violate any W salary rules. The team worked hard for their city and are deserving of the support. Would be a damn shame for the W to find some loophole to undo the sponsorship.
How dare they get an endorsement
WNBA needs to take a page out of their book and spread it. I'm sure they have to regulate this and set boundaries i'm not a lawyer but I don't see the harm.
This might be my favorite thumbnail. Also, side note, can we appreciate the solid debut Martin had, what a story!
Im soo shocked Fever did not take her. Did they think she wouldnt be able to play in the WNBA? She would have really helped Clark smh
@ghsense2626 Right, I was 1,000% certain they would get Martin. Clark could have really benefitted from having Martin with her. Although, I'm not sure if Martin makes a roster that does not know how to use her like Hammon.
Lol thank you. And yeah I agree she had a very good debut
@@ghsense2626I think the fever thought she would be available in the third round
Indiana needs to contribute Boston to their offense more, she does not look like her old self mainly because fever’s offense is now surrounded around clark more, their front court needs work, players like Katie Lou and nalyssa smith have barely gotten any touches their last few games.
I don’t see a problem, if local companies what to support their team. This 👍 😊 nice
They obviously have to allow it. But in the long run NIL-money will destabilize the competitive balance in the WNBA. They are heading towards an era of superteams.
They are already there.. Last season, only 4 of the leagues 12 teams had winning records.
Great example of a team engaging with the community and vice-versa. It should be encouraged and hopefully emulated.
It's called stacking the deck.
The league is trash If they won't allow the Aces players keep the 100k. The old way of doing things is not working at all when it comes to the WNBA.
Who is Aj’a Wilson?
The league's MVP 🏆😮 The Apex of women's Basketball 🏀
@@brandonleemoss never heard of them, until they supposedly got a contract with Nike. 🤷🏼♀️
@@Clymers1984… she already had a contract with Nike when she joined the league. Are you referring to her signature shoe? And if you never heard of Aja Wilson you clearly never watched NCAA or WNBA prior to this year.
no one watched wnba until this year. when the hype dies down, it will return to normalcy. theres a reason wnba is not profitable but barely scraping by
@@Clymers1984because you don't watch the wnba
I agree with everything but there’s a salary cap for a reason. If it’s compared to any other league it would never fly. It makes certain teams more attractive on free agency.
But this money is not part of their salary. It’s an individual endorsement deal with each of the 12 players. Its not running through the Aces organization. It’s running through each of the players’ agents. The board simply choose to endorse each player individually.
Yeah I’m here for it but let’s just say that continues there every year from here on out and two other teams. They become more attractive free agent destinations etc. no hate on my part, hopefully every city follows suit
Has to do pay caps
Let's hope it's just procedure and nothing more
I’m hoping that’s the case too
I'll bet anything the WNBA Players Association lawyers are hard at work on this right now. Can't imagine how it's legal for the league to shut this down.
the thumbnail lol
Her nickname aging well!
Welp… this short aged well
Perfect take! The league better not do the wrong thing.
The leagues will never invalidate championships. They prefer to bury evidence and "protect the integrity of the game". NBA, NFL and MLB all did this...
