    HH is amazing and ND has great team chemistry now. March madness will be fun!

  • @StoryGordon
    @StoryGordon Před 4 měsíci +7

    It was an upset because the pundits had it a UConn win. That does not mean ND did not deserve the win. They won it fair and square. Good game.
    What too many are missing is that After Aubrey was lost for the season UConn became vulnerable to foul trouble because she was an excellent sixth man. UConn is down to five starters and a weak bench with two Freshmen, Ice and Q, their best.
    UConn lost because ND outpayed them. What is missing from the post mortum is that Nika Muhl got into foul trouble early and fouled out seconds into the fourth quarter having played only 19 of the thirty minutes when she would usually have played at least 25.
    At that point ND was u[p 60-59, certainly not a lock.
    Withhout a sixth player of sufficient talent ND closed the last nine minutes with a 22-8 run.
    Stay tuned. UConn has a good shot at winning the BE, but will need luck to go deeper than the S15 in the Big Dance... unless Ice and/or Q develop beyond expectations over the next 12 games.

      You make good points. As far as the BE I don’t expect Uconn to have any difficulties whatsoever. But they have struggled with non conference opponents a lot. I think Uconn will need a favorable tournament draw to make a good run. Any team with a lot of speed will cause problems.

    • @StoryGordon
      @StoryGordon Před 4 měsíci +1

      @@maxpower247 - One problem with fan commentary is too few follow team details. I am guilty, too.
      UConn is a favorite because I believe the Geno/CD approach to the game is among the best. Others are similarly excellent, especially SC and Stanford
      UConn began the seasonranked #2 with a roster that supporterd the ranking; however, while losing Jana El Alfy, Azzi Fudd, Ayanna Patterson and Caroline Ducharme they still presented a formitable opponent.
      Losing Aubrey Griffin reduced their roster to five staarters, two of them Freshmen, with their two best bench players, Ice and Q, Freshmen, too.
      When assessing a team it's important to consider reality not their mythology. UConn can still compete with topteams. Their four guard offense is proving itself, but if one starter fouls out, as Nika did against ND, playing only 19 of the 40 minutes they are in trouble.
      Their hope is that no starter fouls out and Ice and Q develop at warp speed. I believe they will win the BE tournament, although Creighton is a solid team. How far they go in the NCAA remains to be seen. I think they will make it to the S16, but beyond that they need to win with starters... tough to do.

      @@mplou699 - Why would you say that? Which injury prone players has he played too much? A blanket assertion is not evidence.
      My respect for him is os his developing players the way they play best. As for win at all costs, that is a tired excuse which has no validation except in you mind. Of course he wants to win.
      As for playing injury prone players all you have to do is follow how he has dealt with Caroline's problems to understand how wrong you are.

    This was a great game. NDs big 3 looked like world beaters.
    It’s interesting you touched on them looking ahead to next year. it’s hard not to, they should be final 4 quality if healthy. but I fear they’re gonna find it hard to get through this season with this short bench, not to mention 2 of 5 starters aren’t really offensive threats. I just don’t think they have enough depth right now
    However for all their bad luck, two big things have broken their way. For one, Hidalgo is a generational talent, anything can happen when she’s on the court. Second of all they dodged a HUGE bullet with Citron’s knee. Seems like every day a major player is having a season ending injury. It sucks. Thank goodness hers was not. I think if they were trying to get through ACC play with only Marshall off the bench, their season would have gone totally off their rails even with Hannah being amazing as she is. It’s just not enough players, not to mention Citron obviously does so much for that team.
    So I don’t expect them to go too deep in the tourney but I think and hope they could definitely get a couple more big wins like this before the season is over. They were fun to watch against UConn. Hannah is electric.

    Spot on with your commentary. ND will be a tough out with HH playing like this. ❤ I agree with you also about S.C. vs UConn. 18 k fams cheering will make it difficult for UConn freshman to perform well under pressure. I think S.C. by 15-20. I think we have won 5 out of the last 6 meetings at multiple venues. Keep up the great work ❤

      Unfortunately UCONN is without Azzi Fudd, Aubree Griffen and Caroline Ducharme plus to bigs. Those three would have made this a very different outcome. There is no doubt about that. Hidalgo is terrific BUT, all UCONN needed to do was step in front of her drives and she would've been in foul trouble early. No one did. THAT is key to this game as well.@@turtleislandlac1490

And another request if you can find the time to review the standford South Carolina game and how standford let that game slip away? So much uconn hate for what? It isn’t the first time you’ve said such thing, why would uconn disrespect ND? It was a night where the rivalries came together, a night to celebrate iconic teams who went through the same stage with the notre dame rivalry. But to say notre dame is a better team in general than uconn? it doesn’t make sense considering notre dame has 1 ranked win against uconn’s 5. You can’t say it’s against weak competition because it’s really not. Ucla lost to Washington state but I don’t hear anyone saying Washington state is an overrall better team than ucla? Does that imply that Syracuse who is ranked lower than notre dame beat them twice is better than notre dame? that they will make it further than notre dame? It’s an upset because uconn is a top ten team, it’s an upset because notre dame was not favoured to win, simple as that. You may not think it was, but on paper it was, uconn got outplayed and outcoached, but it was more of an upset because it was also on uconn’s home court. I never ever saw someone speak badly of the way nd played at home when citron and hidalgo were combined for 11/28 their loss against Syracuse, notre dame deserved this win to bounce back after their loss. But speaking of resumes, uconn has a better record. notre dame also has a top ten win which uconn doesn’t. Notre dame is underrated. But uconn also has the #1/#2 SOS in the country. If nd played UConn’s schedule, (Texas, ucla, nc state, South Carolina, Louisville, unc, Marquette, creighton, maryland, etc) it’s a much different conversation. Speaking of nd as a team, not a single player.

    Great game by Notre Dame. Hannah Hidalgo is a Supreme talent, but let's be real - Paige Bueckers is the better player. She's bigger, a way better outside shooter and an Ace defender who can bother shots. Not to mention can be your best playmaker or even play some forward in a small ball line up.
    Hannah Hidalgo is my pick for College Player Of The Year, but I would not hesitate to choose Paige over her in a Pro Basketball draft. When the talent is similar, it is historically better to go with the bigger athlete.

    Bro, you've been trying to determine if this team is elite all season long, but you keep minimizing every loss they suffer.
    You should probably just cover Notre Dame only. You seem to make your mind up relatively fast regarding other teams, but you just can't seem to bring yourself to accept that the Irish are not as good as you would like.

  • @ATWCB
    @ATWCB Před 4 měsíci +1

    UConn is just too injured to make any noise; more so, than Notre Dame. Of course that's not an upset. Yet, Notre Dame being even a top ten team is kind of a stretch. Top 25, yes. They are very much a rank worthy team.
    Hey look, Syracuse has beaten ND twice this year, so that's not a fluke. Syracuse just has them figured out. Their strengths are to Notre Dame's detriment. The Irish have a solid man to man press, and Hidalgo can disrupt offenses by rattling most PGs. Not a lot of college PGs can get by her man press without a little assistance. Hidalgo sometimes can get the best of Syracuse's two main guards, but she has often got a lesson taught to her when she overcommits to the steal. ND needs to work on their help D, or simply provide it, especially when Hidalgo or Citron gets passed up by Rice or Fair in both of those games. Citron specifically struggled with containing Fair, who she often found herself facing, and it was usually a quick bucket to the basket. These two guards eat in the paint when they play Notre Dame. Hustle points are a big problem for ND against Syracuse. They get outplayed badly by Syracuse with rebounds and second chance points in both games. They are quicker than ND, they know this, and they use it to their advantage. The Irish better work on drawing up more mid-range plays, because that was the only thing Syracuse was willing to give them. However, they were not going to let ND beat them from inside or deep without a challenge. Every time Hidalgo drove the paint, Syracuse's game plan was to make her earn that bucket. The fighting Irish really needs to adapt against teams faster, or just period... because they approached Syracuse with the same game plan that didn't work the first time, and the results were much worse. Is Syracuse the best in the ACC, I wouldn't think they are. Are they better than Notre Dame... Maybe not on paper, but they have a better game plan when they meet, so that makes them better for now.

    Correct once UCONN's playmaker and two time DPOY for the Big East was in foul trouble and then fouled out... ND then could impose at will their offense of a phenom Freshman and 4 very experienced players against UCONN's (3) first year playing Freshman, Edwards and Bueckers (who smacked her face on the floor earlier).
    Getting Nika Muhl in foul trouble and out allowed ND to exploit KK Arnold, Ashlynn Shade and Ice Brady all 3 Freshman.... including Westbald having (3) uncontested 3-pointers The other side would had been Bueckers and Edwards... lower probability of scoring. When Nika was in the game they ND' shoot efficiency was lower including Hadalgo's. It was a well executed plan by ND and a Achilles heal for UCONN.
