Thank God someone has the conmon sense to tell the whole truth and nothing but. According to Mulkey it was pro scouts who wanted HVL to add point guard to her skill set. They thought it would enhance her draft stock. They felt she would have to play the shooting and point positions interchangeably in the pro game. She needed to go to a team that had a number of potential pro prospects that would allow her to play the position and show what she could do at a high level. So what she did was leverage a previous relationship she established during her high school recruiting and went to LSU. They would get her the visibility she needed having come off a championship and playing in a tough SEC conference. People were looking for Alexis Morris results but HVL doesn't have the athletic abilities of Alexis, didn't know the PG position and didn't know Mulkey's system. People forget tht Alexis played 3 years for Mulkey. HVL didn't bother to use the summer to get down to LSU and learn those things she busy playing USA basketball. IMO Mulkey's favoritism towards HVL cost LSU a lot to include a bonafide run at the title, season rankings, recruiting and the loss of KP, and now other recruits that have left the program. Because she was Kobe blessed HVL was a planned superstar promotion along with Paige and Clark to grow the game by changing the face of the women's game in order to attract investments on both the college and pro levels. Her game didn't live up to the hype and her game didn't grow as much as her popularity. She was x-rayed and all her flaws exposed at LSU for what she is a gifted scorer but not an all around superstar player. Had LSU not added her to the roster they still gotten to the elite 8. It will take LSU years to recover from that mistake. But you had a coach who believed she could help her add a skill set to her game but that would have taken much more than a year to pull off IMO.

THISSSSS and its unfortunate she got cooked so bad in the Iowa game, I think if that had not happened, she would've returned to LSU and continued to work on the game. But she felt embarrassed and wanted to leave. Now, not only is she again in the portal, she's also doing team USA... AGAIN. I think her brand cache is enough to get her drafted in the second round next year and maybe make a roster. Hopefully she's able to stay in the league a while.

Funny thing to me is everytime they would put Poa in the game for HVL, LSU would go on a scoring run. And yet HVL consistently played 30+ mins per game, and Poa played only 20 or even less than that. If only Poa was allowed to grow and make the same mistakes as HVL did, I wonder if LSU would’ve made it farther than they did and possibly beaten Iowa. But unfortunately we will never know. If I was Poa, I would’ve been pissed at Mulkey for not playing me enough minutes.

Dude I actually agree with this entire video and I thought I was the only one. This is gonna sound harsh but this is why I’m putting it in the CZcams comments and not tweeting it at her. I see two scenarios for why she wanted to go to LSU as a pg, in addition to NIL and ring chasing. Either she chose to try to be a PG to boost her WNBA draft stock rather than playing the role she’s actually good at, which makes her a kinda selfish teammate prioritizing herself first. OR, she got caught up in her own hype so much that she somehow truly thought she could run the offense in the SEC for a team of all stars. Neither is a good look, but that interview clip you played in this video makes me think the latter was true. She really thought she could handle being a full time point guard. I’m sorry, but anyone who watched her at Louisville could tell you it would have turned out like this. She has always been overrated. Not bad, but overrated. Last season was talked about like a top 5-10 player when there was much better players who got a fraction of the attention. Good luck to her and I hope her mental health is ok but I think she got herself into this mess with her own ego.

Hailey Van Lith might not be bound for TCU after all.
The former LSU guard told Doug Feinberg of The Associated Press she is "very close" to a decision but has not committed anywhere.
"I did take a visit to TCU and am very interested in them, but I took visits to other schools and was very interested in them, too," she said. "I haven't made an official commitment, but I'm very close. The ink has not touched the paper for any school."
Van Lith averaged 11.6 points and 3.6 assists per game while shooting 37.8 percent from the floor during her lone season at LSU. It was a disappointing result after Van Lith was one of the most-hyped transfers in the country following a stellar three-year career at Louisville. However, she never seemed to be fully comfortable with the Tigers and shot just 20 percent during LSU's run to the Elite Eight.
There is no shortage of suitors for Van Lith on the transfer market, and she's already back on the court preparing for USA Basketball 3x3 Olympic competition. She's been training with WNBA stars Dearica Hamby, Allisha Gray and Rhyne Howard as well.
"Playing against them and seeing how I'm able to score and not score shows me what I need to get better at," Van Lith said. "It's a little taste of the league early."
TCU was seemingly building an All-Star cast of transfers in the portal but lost Haley Cavinder, who decided to return to Miami, and now hasn't locked up Van Lith as previously reported.

HVL’s weakness is with her defensive skills not her leadership abilities or scoring capabilities. This was evident to me when I saw her play 3x3 basketball in 2022. She has shown that she can play a lights out game of defense at LSU but she needs to become more consistent. I agree that LSU did not ruin her career and I do have to commend her for attempting to round out her skillset. But, HVL is not a point guard and I feel she would have needed much more than one season to hone those skills. Whatever the case, I wish her well in her time at TCU.

  • @dominictramonte2687
    @dominictramonte2687 Před měsícem

    Yeah, I kinda agree.
It wasn't LSU, or more accurately Kim Mulkey, who ruined her. She asked, and LSU took a flyer. It was an attempt to boost her draft stock.
But truthfully, she was always ruined. She's not tall enough. Yes, a short person can make it in the pros, but you have to be Muggsy Bogues to get there which, oh by the way, HVL isn't. She's a natural two; whether by experience or nature, I can't say. But she doesn't have the handles or the court vision to be a one. Maybe she could have developed them (her height might have limited here there on the court vision thing) but it's not the kind of thing that can be done in a single year, and especially not with Kim Mulkey. Mulkey is the kind of coach that breaks a player down before building them up into a new mold. A year isn't long enough, although it might have worked if they had longer.
Nika Muhl is a classic example. At 5'10" she's a half-head taller than HVL, although about at the lower limit for height for a point guard who's going anywhere. She's also a defense specialist, and always has been. She's got great handles and isn't afraid to pass the ball in impossible situations (which sometimes really are impossible; turnovers are her besetting sin.) She's been working on both since she was big enough to hold a basketball, too. That's what it takes to play point in the W; and HVL doesn't have any.
Her going to the W was always a pipe dream, I think. She can't do anything about her height, and she can't shoot over a player a head taller than her if she is in position. She might have gotten drafted, even, but making a roster? Sorry, the spots are too limited and there are people who can do what she can do and are tall to boot. She has or had a future in the Euro league, perhaps, as a catch and shoot two. She's hell on wheels at that. The pass is always faster than the feet, and she could get the shot off fast enough so the opposing player couldn't recover in time. But point? Not gonna happen; not now. She's right, of course. Her height limits her in the W. Point is about the only position she could play.
But she didn't make the logical conclusion: maybe the W isn't where her future lies.

I can't figure how some of these black women who have great skills and have the stats to prove it are so much less valued than their white counterparts. This is not to bash CC or PB, their skills is undeniable, but everyone else? I just don't get it. The most popular women's basketball players rn are probably Angel Reese and Asja Wilson, but all they get is disrespected and discredited. Then people go on to say it's because they aren't as talented or marketable. This is just false because a player is as marketable as you make them, not as much the other way around. Hailey van lith is proof of that. The fact that they are making any mildly attractive and decently talented white girl the face of women's basketball when player's like Rickea Jackson exist is beyond me. It's like people didn't want women's basketball to succeed until they had a white face to put over it. The talented black women who have been dominating and driving forward this sport for decades who have been disregard to push this narrative is making my blood boil honestly.
