    • @TonyAlbus
      @TonyAlbus Před 2 dny

      @@RemoteInstruments The Tenma is made by Korad, the Korad is good.. Siglent is better but the price reflects that also. But the Electronicload from Siglent is not their best product, what i mean here is. the software and device it self is not that developed like their scopes or spectrum analyzers. you could find it somewhat limited, with more effort is would be so much better. and then that price is a bit high. But if all your other stuff is Siglent, you would go for it for sure.

    Ah! Good pick-up! This raises the question about the other digital SWR meter you tested in TA-0307: Mini 100 Watt SWR PWR with OLED and Battery BG5CQV - CQV-SWR120? Does this little unit also generate QRM at some random frequencies I wonder? I purchased a similar unit not long ago from Surecom (model SW-28, 1.5 - 60MHz VSWR & 120 Power meter, with battery) and it is even smaller than the CQV-SWR120 with same functionality with programmable alarm etc. I've not had a chance to use it yet as I'm in the process of restoring and re-aligning a Yeasu FT-902D, but I do have a Icom IC-R71E (general coverage HF receiver) I fixed and re-aligned recently that is very sensitive and should pick-up any QRM generated by the tiny Surecom. I'll let you know if I find anything with that one if you are interested?

    • @TonyAlbus
      @TonyAlbus Před 5 dny

      Hi, yes that would be very interesting to know, if you can share after to tested, that would be amazing. R71E is great, the sound is so much warmer than the new SDR devices. Somehow the ear knows its digital and i get tired fast (even my FT-dx10), while on the R70/71 and 751 i can listen a lot longer. The Icom is a keeper!

    • @j-mlapinno4827
      @j-mlapinno4827 Před 5 dny

      @@TonyAlbus I'm happy to report that I did not find even the slightest QRM murmur internally generated by the little Surecom SW-28, scanning from 100kHz to 30 MHz, 1 kHz step (took me a while 😄) with the Icom R71E (pre-amp ON, noise floor around 0.05uV (around -133 dBm)) and antenna connection to a 50 Ohm dummy load (MFJ-264). And yes, you are right Tony, the R71 is just fantastic, especially on SSB ... sweet! I have it connected to an audio DSP Timewave DSP-599zx (which is just about as old as the Icom LOL) and the combo's performance is almost as good as the best of todays gear with all their fancy IF level DSPs 😏! Of course I had the DSP disconnected for this test.

    I believe the problem is that the sensing section shares the same PC board with active electronics. There is a still image of the sensing board in the video, and that shows that there's no real isolation between the sensing circuitry (RF in and out) and the active electronics. The sensing section should be really completely separate and shielded, with only the DC Voltages representing forward and reverse power coming out of that shielded section ... preferably via feedthrough capacitors. Thanks Tony for confirming that it wasn't just my meter which had a problem.

      Thanks for your feedback, i am happy to see most of it as it is what i want my channel to be. - short answer: check whats left on my bench after a while. - long answer below, how i make a selection 1. The first filter i have is, if there is no ooh ahh factor, it wil not endup in a video, maybe in a very rare case for other reasons. (i reject lots of items that are unreleted in my view) 2. i do the Hands-On videos so we can see the usability over stone cold component level. Super well designed A-component devices can still have terrible user interface. - Usability first 3. if an item is not usefull for me, it can still be very usefull for someone else, that is not up to me. everyone has different needs and uses it different. 4. if you want to know its useful for me, simply checkmy bench if it is still there after a while. i have 3 or more times equipment then can fit on my bench.. so if its there i prob like it. Thanks again for your time and effort to give me feedback and ofcourse, thank you for watching and hope to see you next time. The GPSDO I ordered came from Aliexpress today but it's rather disappointing. On the display it just says 10.000 Mhz GPSDO for a while then changes to say PPB -2.3 and PWM31077 but there are no instructions at all so I have no idea what that means. Pushing in the knob gets into a menu where I can select Contrast, Offset, PWM Set and Exit but that's all. It never displays the time like they show in some photos and there's no way to even tell if it's picking up any satellites or working at all! I opened it up and inside it has an Arduino Nano and NEO-6M module plugged into the main board with just it's 5 pins holding it. The main board also has a 10.000 Mhz OSCO on it and outputs on the back for 1PPM and 10 Mhz.. With the top off I can at least see the LED blinking on the NEO-6M so I guess it's working to some extent but they should have put the LED on the front.

    I too love freq counters. You may have more of them than I do, but I doubt it. It seems like I get a broken one at every ham swap for $10 or $20 to fix. I've had the frequency addiction eve since I built a TRF WWVB receiver for a lab reference before the days of GPS receiver references. Then I bought an HP 524 that hurt my back, so I resold it for half of what I paid for it. I loved it. Dials, knobs, Nixies, switches, It was a work of tech art. It was very stable after being in operation 24/7 for 20 years at a TV transmitter site before I bought it. But if I'd kept it it would have crippled me. Those aren't boat anchors. Those are the whole boat. It doesn't help that I sometimes do contract repair work for the Time and Frequency group at NIST in Colorado. I'm like a kid in a candy shop when I see a rack array of 8 old 5061B's feeding WWV, and I feel like I'm in a church when I stand in the room with NIST-F1 with its correction for the tidal pull on the east and west coasts each day. :)
