I have a Weller that still works after more than 20 years and I have a hakko. I love how quickly your unit comes to temperature. Love portable battery power. The power usage bar is unnecessary and would be better to be as a battery monitor. Also the thought of connecting my iron to a computer and have software updates seems over kill at best but practically useless. Thx for sharing.

Love my Weller too, its the one i always use in the end... about the update: new added active points. that special handle that can fit all 3 types and maybe even more types

@@TonyAlbus that’s just not a tool that I would consider buying. If you can find low cost current probes for scope that can cover in the range up to 50MHz. And do a review on that. That’s what I have always wanted but could never afford. However in this new age of affordable test equipment maybe my dream can come true.

@@TonyAlbus Also if both my weller and hakko were to blow up tomorrow I would buy another weller. It just works. May not heat up the fastest but it works and that reliability over the years has a sense of nostalgia when I consider all of the prototypes I have built and debugged with it. The hakko works good. It was given to me not something I purchased. However the color scheme and the user interface is horrible. That blue and yellow should never be used on test equipment ever again.

I use the same brand but duel unit, got rid of my weller as this one worked much better and a steal of a price.

Yes i love the metal holder.. its a good improvement to the plastic it was before. while the plastic was not bad at all, this just looks cooler :)

Nice iron. But, I cant see what use Bluetooth and Wi-Fi would be on a soldering iron though?

Exactly it's an under statement in over kill. It's an iron. Why would I ever have to update the software. Features without benefits.

Yes my first thought too, what is interesting, they have this new plug for extra options, but also this bluetooth. why go for extra pin for communication if you have now BT.
maybe it will open things we do not know yet. interesting to follow what they will come with in future.

Maybe better temp control, new added active points. that special handle that can fit all 3 types and maybe even more types.

A Weller child here: Yes competition is great. I did switch to Hakko 20 years ago but some hefty Wellers still help me out. A chap in New Zealand has far better options, I forgot his yt channel but in my day and age having to register for software is perhaps such a turnoff to keep looking for turnkey alternatives. Thanks for the great test anyway but I will pass.

Yes Weller here too. i agree with registering for software it a turnoff for sure. if not for the video i would have skipped it just there.

Thank you for the review, Tony. Not sure how you would use wi-fi or Bluetooth with a soldering iron? Looks like a well built product - how about a look inside! Regards, David

Yes why BT or WiFi when you also have USB... who knows what future will bring... BT for new assasouries, WiFi for auto ordering new active points :) who knows...

Seems like a solid and nice soldering iron indeed. But it's a real shame that registering is mandatory even just to update the firmware. In this case it would not be a big deal since I couldn't care less about bluetooth and stuff for a soldering iron so if the thing works as intended with firmware 1.00 I see no need to upgrade, but it is rediculous nonetheless. Things like that really would hold me back from purchasing.

Hi Marnix, yes agree, its silly to register..

Hi, i did not find that in the menu. its so new i do not even have a manual... also the firmware is 1.0 .. so maybe that will come.

@@TonyAlbus I'm sure you know lol, but the main reason for the comment is the untrustworthiness of the Bluetooth and WiFi as its easily broken/backdoored and also the app(mobile app), It appears your using your a main PC for testing the software. Be extra careful when receiving items in and don't trust these connection methods and apps, VirusTotal scan the files, before and after extract, run them in a virtual sand-boxed environment. Some people maybe out for bad purposes, I've seen channels hacked by suppliers, be safe!

@@KavorkaDesigns Thank you, yes i always have a good antivirus/firewall and scipts security on and make 2 weekley images, i already had to restore it once indeed when a buggy driver messed up my windows installation, sinds then i have images :). For firmware updates i prefer USB direct. you don't want a broken connection during the process. But i have had good experiance with the Atorch devices FW updates over bluetooth. (but only did that when no usb was possible)
