Using a frame of eggs to make a new Queen right colony! Pt2
We look at the next steps and the result of the Queen cells produced! Saving a colony with a frame of eggs thus letting the bees take control and make a new queen for their colony. In this video we continue on from the last video both showing the next steps we take and the end result after the long wait! This process using a frame of eggs can be done again if in the right time and season. Weather permitting you can go into the hive earlier than the 8-9 days to check for cells as I specified as the weather was a bit iffy for a few days here. But nice capped Queen cells are lovely to see when needed.
I show that I went back through the hive after the new Queen cells were capped, just to double check the frames and cells as the last Queen went unexpectedly and was quite suspicious, as seen in Pt1 video (see below)

Bees making a mess of waxed plastic foundation? How I fix it without adding more!

This video shows what I do to encourage the bees to draw plastic wax coated foundation frames. When the bees start to build bad burr and wild comb on them when in the hive. Plastic foundation can sometimes be a nightmare, most of the time it just needs more wax but when you pay out for premium coated frames It's a little annoying when the bees don't take to them very well. When a hive is being a little suspicious and the Queen stops laying panic sets in! Read the frames and it should tell a story but bees will be bees and nothing is too certain. With the Queen not laying and the weather being "well British" bees can be under some strain and the Queen can in some cases stop laying. • @berintanbees
      @berintanbees Před měsícem

      Hi, I don’t see a problem with using a queen as long as she is introduced properly “I have videos on this. ” But reading that your hive has been queenless for a long time is troubling, as they can develop laying workers. The hive will then not accept a queen so easily, I would strongly recommend putting a frame of eggs in that hive asap. This will tell you what the situation is and all being well they will draw cells. 🐝

      @@berintanbees what if there was no larvae at all?

    • @berintanbees
      @berintanbees Před měsícem

      The problem is how long it’s been queenless, with no brood. This is when they develop a laying worker. They will lay multiple eggs in cells dotted around (drone). I would still recommend using a frame of eggs just to be on the safe side. You could also buy a queen, but that could be an expense if failed. But they are your hives so it’s your decision. Hope this helps. 🐝

    That's a great method for helping out a hive that's slow to draw comb. And it's important to note that particular hives will be strong comb builders which can be utilized by the beekeeper. I "paint" an extra layer of wax on plastic foundation which definitely helps the bees get started. The time of year is also very important: a strong nectar flow or supplemental feeding is a crucial element.

      Lots of things can trigger a hive to turn, sometimes it sort’s itself out. I find when a hive has no queen they can be more on edge. Once the new hive settles down with a new queen see how they are with the new generation. The weather can affect them also, look for robbing going on there are so many variables. If your hive posits being nasty you may want to re Queen. Give them a little time 🐝
