Hail Storm Recovery Part 1: Replacing Damaged Shingle
Up first, is making sure the roof doesn't leak. At the time of recording, more rain was in the forecast, so didn't want any water getting under the shingles, and potentially causing further damage to the house. By no means, am I a roofer, however, I felt confidant enough to tackle this small repair. After repairs, I used clear roof sealant to reattach the disturbed shingles, in the vicinity, and to touch up spots, on the larger hail hits.
This roof was installed in 2017, and we always keep the extra shingles in the hoard, just in case something like this happens. Thanks to the hoard, this repair was quickly, and easily addressed.
I don't like the idea of blue tarp covering the damaged areas, typically seen, as a result of storm damage.
Note: This roof is condemned, and will be replaced. These are just temporary repairs, until that can be scheduled.

Hail Storm Aftermath

Recorded May, 28, 2024. After a wonderful Memorial Day weekend, we ended up getting a destructive hailstorm. Of course, I waste no time starting clean up, and picking up the pieces. Will need a new roof, and screen doors for the h...

Recorded July 3, 2024. Since the 4th of July falls mid-week this year, the annual fireworks display is typically held on the night of the 3rd. The entire show lasted about 30 minutes. Looks like this might be the last year to see these from the ground, as the tree now obscures the view. I will likely have to get a drone to continue this tradition, and to get a better look. June 2024 Garden Update
zhlédnutí 91Před 21 hodinou
This is a long one! June turned out to be a rough month for the garden. We had a bad hail storm on May 27th, and pretty much wiped everything out. I decided to let nature heal itself, and for the most part that happened. I did have to replace two coleus plants, as well as my squash, and cucumbers. I used a combination of 4-5-4 fertilizer, and Super Thrive to give the plants a kick-start re grow...

Kia and Hyundai both are junk and should be banned from sales in USA. U didnt see that crap on American roads in the 80's or 90's
Fuck tbid fuckint shit add microwave I’m about to fucking shatter this shit to the damn ground bro
Oh man, I’m sorry to see this. I love storms, camped in some big ones. But thankfully never hail.
Has to be hot we recently got a new roof. Still have a few boxes of shingles. Now I’m glad I have them. But that looks hot up there.
Even thought you aren't a roofer, it pays to know a thing to two about general house repair like this. Nice job.
Indeed! I can handle the general repairs that continuously pop up. Wouldn't have the money to live here, if I had to pay someone, every time something breaks.
Too bad to see you got more hail damage. Is Hurricane Beryl expected to bring any bad weather your way?
Yeah, pretty well recovered from it now, thankfully. Looks like the worst will stay east. I'm really hoping for some rain though.
I do see a lot of Hyundai and Kia cars on fire here in California. I drive for Penske, and I see the fires all the time with the Korean brand of cars. I also see a lot of EVs on fire too.
I've heard about the issue, first one I've actually caught on camera. I haven't seen an EV on fire. Not as common to see one in Texas! I would certainly stay away from all of them you mention.
I never seen a ev on fire but i seen a bunch of old mustangs catch fire.
Hopefully you didn’t have a ton to replace. Hail is a pretty terrible thing.
Just that one, and used the sealant on the black spots. So far, so good, no leaks. Yeah, I can do without hail, that's for sure!
Kia/Hyundai products are absolute garbage.
I used to have older 1987 kenmore electric dryer but door was the smaller one long time ago but it was very noisy and breaking apart back in 2015 and then we end up scrapping it and replaced by a new Kenmore 500 series Electric Dryer
This one got noisy back in the 90's. Me, and my grandfather replaced the drum rollers. Been quiet ever since. It's had a few things to break over the years, but has sat in that exact spot, since 1977.
@@dynatrak yeah in saying that i also used to have older Maytag Washer which is similar to your Maytag performa except my agitator does come with fabric softener dispenser cup on it. It died 2018 and replaced by amana washer after I replaced older 1987 kenmore sears electric dryer that has small door in it into 2015 kenmore 500 series electric dryer and I still have that agitator and panel control that I took apart on that old Maytag washer after it died
What is this city?
DFW
Yes, driving though Fort Worth that day, which is in the DFW area.
Sorry to hear you had hail damage. I hope your insurance will help defray the cost of repairs. About 15 years ago I was driving my truck to work during a thunderstorm. Just before I got to work it started hailing. It started as just a few hail stones mixed with rain but by the time I turned into the parking lot it was a full on hail storm with nickel sized hail. I had to stay in my truck for several minutes until it stopped. My truck still has a few dents in the roof from it but some cars in the parking lot looked like golf balls. It seemed to be Korean brands that fared the worst. I don't know if it was due to thin gauge body panels or maybe aluminum vs steel but some cars were a mess and others including my truck showed little damage.
Thanks. Yeah, looks like that will cover the cost of the damaged items. Yep, that's the difference between the 1981, and 2004 Chevy trucks. I counted four small dents on the '81, while the 2004 got it worse. I've been working a little at a time, with a PDR kit, and gotten most out of the 2004, at this point.
Wow, sorry to hear that happened to you. Must have been a pretty decent sized supercell you had. Any idea of the size of the hail that caused all that damage?
Thanks. Started out around tennis ball, and went down in size from there, thankfully. Was real heavy pea sized toward the end. Could have been much, much worse.
That's a real shame, very sorry that happened. You put all that work in and bam, just like that it's wiped out. Definitely does not have 1984 vibes! Unfortunately here didn't either, I'll send you an email with the info.
Thanks! Things are gradually coming back around. Plenty to come with the progress. No, about as far from 1984 as can be! Just read, and replied. Holy crap man, crazy stuff!
@@dynatrak Sure is, I got the message and replied.
Yikes lots of damage Texas is getting hammered isn't it
Yes, and yes! Now a hurricane is headed our way.
@@dynatrak stay safe
@@gregorymacholl3087 Thanks!
My guess is it was caused by a fuel leak somewhere inside the fuel rail. Since these use the GDI system, the fuel is pressurized over 1000 psi and if there’s any sort of pinhole, it’ll spray fuel everywhere under the hood, all it takes is a ignition source to catch fire. To add insult to injury, if it catches fire when driving, basically up a creek without a paddle since you won’t be able to stop since the fire will have melted the master cylinder, applying the parking/emergency brake won’t do too much either. Someone in Hawaii had theirs catch on fire, since they weren’t able to stop, basically ended up coasting to the shoulder where the driver unfortunately perished. The passengers literally had to jump out to safety.
Could have easily been that! I also read about ABS modules, shorting out, and causing fires. They issued a park outside notice, then, they could be stolen more easily. Personally, I don't think I'd be able to trust the brand after all that.
can you come and do mine?
🤣
I ordered this cleaner It looks like it cleans nice.
So sad. We are encouraged to buy new appliances and light bulbs for savings on electric bills but wind up in the long run spending more money to replace everything in a few years because it falls apart.
You've got that right!
That hail really did some damage. We need rain over in the south east 14:18 that’s a cool sunflower
Yeah, everything was just hitting it's stride, too! Thanks! Getting dry here, as well. Lawn is starting to dry out in places.
I'M SPARTUS!
You've got a lot of flowers around your yard. I didn't see any hostas, that's one of my favorite plants to put in the garden. Your peppers and tomatoes are pretty big. Mine garden is doing good also. I have been harvesting some hot banana peppers and I have a volunteer pumpkin growing in the flower bed. So I'm excited to hopefully get a pumpkin this year as I have failed other years.
Indeed! Yeah, Hostas don't do well in my garden. Used to have one, but it died. If I see a perennial plant I like, I will buy one, if it survives for one year, then I'll buy more. Yeah, those peppers, and tomatoes especially, are doing well this year. Once summer nears it's end, the pepper plants will produce a lot of peppers. That's awesome your garden is doing well, and for having a volunteer pumpkin plant. Hopefully you'll get one this year.
That's a good working washer. Nice and quiet motor, no clanging or banging form the transmission and it washes well. I'll have to look up your repair video's of this washer. I see you use Tandil detergent, I shop at Aldi's too.
Thanks, it's a pretty smooth runner! Yes, I need to make a trip to Aldi soon, for some vacation essentials!
Wish I could find a washer like this.
I see them for sale on Facebook Marketplace, quite often. Also seen them at estate sales. With a bit of searching, I'm sure you'll be able to find one pretty easily.
Have you made any modifications to this Maytag washer?
Other than a full refurbishment, and adding a chrome control panel, no. Used all NOS Maytag parts, specified for this machine.
@@dynatrak sounds wonderful, I'm getting an Harvest Gold set, probably 1973-or 74 model, and I know how to operate washer but sure would like to see the Dryer demonstration.
@@Jerry-dq4om Awesome! I have a 1977 Kenmore gas dryer, and there are videos of it on my channel.
@@dynatrak Have you ever owned or used and older center dial Maytag Dryer, I've heard they're pretty quick on Drying.
Loved this washer in my old house. Never had a problem with it. 6 adults were living there so it was used daily from 2015-2021.
Nice! This one needed the tub bearing replaced last year, so it should be ready to go another 20 years, hopefully.
Nice man
Thanks
By the way, I wonder when they moved the information tag to the top of the back panel? I see that yours has it right on top like the earlier models.
The tag was on the back panel from the 1950's until 1975 when is was placed under the lid on the right rear corner. It moved to the top panel in 1980. I have a late 1974 Maytag washer that already had the tag location stamped out for 1975 but installed the tag at the back panel location.
@@muziklvr7776 mine is a 1980 and they put the plate on the back top of the panel
Wow, that had fantastic turnover with this load. Thanks so much for showing the lid switch. I managed with a clothespin a friend of mine gave me a wood clothespin. You can't help but love these machines the sounds they make, and the performance is exceptional. Thanks again.
Indeed, this was a great wash. You're welcome, and I'm glad you found a suitable solution! From what I can tell it was a 1975-1979 thing with that tag, for sure. I recall someone with a 1980 center dial, and I think it had the tag in the corner, like mine. I've seen a 1974, and 1981 Maytag on here, and both did not have the corner tag.
What is the agitation arc?

😎😎😎😎😎 cool next should be free pine products reviews too 🌲🌲🌲🌲🌲
Thanks! That would be nice to receive free pine cleaners.
That truck has aged like fine wine it's literally a time capsule. Also thanks for using the parking brake, people don't realize how bad it is on their engine and transmission when they don't use the parking brake especially when parking on a inclined grade.
Indeed! It's used every time. I've had very little engine, and transmission issues with my vehicles.
I found these
Thanks for the video. My fan gets stuck and I have to tap it to start spinning. Is it because the oil is low?
You’re welcome! Either that, or a bad capacitor, if equipped.
Nice cleaning. I have a few fans I need to clean also as I can see dust accumulating on the fan blades. I did clean and oil a vintage Kmart box fan I found at goodwill 2 years ago. Had to disassemble the motor, clean and oil it. Also had to bend the frame back to shape the best I could. Runs better now but I need to get some deoxit in the switch because it's scratchy sounding.
Thanks! Awesome you found a K Mart box fan, and got it all fixed up. Yeah, wouldn’t hurt to try some Deoxit on the switch.
Great video!😁👍
Thanks!
All cleaned up beautifully and operating as they should. You cannot beat these vintage fans. So much quieter and smoother than the new counterparts. I recently acquired a nice vintage box fan I have yet to make a video of. It's so quiet and smooth running.
Indeed! Looking forward to seeing your recent acquisition.
Omg I know that smelled so good from the look of the cloud. I love the smell of pine!!
It’s a great one! Just mopped the kitchen, and the pine scent lasted a long time.
My kids still runs the small table fan. Also them all turning on was satisfying. Now I’m curious how many watts that all is lol😂
That's awesome. Yes, I like that, too. That's a good idea for next year, to attach the watt meter!
Great collection of fans 👍
Thank you!
I love your vintage fans and how well they perform...And it was a nice presentation of them! I love vintage fans, vintage vaccum cleaners, Christmas lights, etc..

Thanks! Yeah, that one is my favorite as well. Perfect for sleeping.
Very helpful...my valve didnt have the plastic that you replaced at minute 14:07...problem solved as soon as I put one..ty!
Thanks! I'm glad yours is fixed.
I have the same unit intact. Any luck finding the service manual?
Nice! Is it still functional? I actually have two service manuals for these.
We have the same one. Too bad ours acts up every single damn year and the design is horrible. It takes forever to remove the sides to clean the coils and the wiring to the fan is easily damaged when you open up the inconveniently heavy top. Terrible thing
I took care of ten of these from new install in 1994, until 2005, and found it unnecessary to remove all the side panels. Just the top, and service panel, are all I removed, and never damaged the wiring. Then sprayed from the inside out. Last I checked, several are still working at age 30, so they can't be all that bad! I suppose there are lemons in every production run. I do prefer exposed coils, with a small surrounding grate, rather than the completely enclosed, as they are in this type of Ruud/Rheem unit.
Hi Mr Wilson! Nice to see you are still kicking.
