Dashcam: Kia Soul On Fire

- Going about my day, there is smoke off in the distance. Getting closer, the smoke is getting thicker, where I need to exit. Once exiting the interstate, to my right, is a Kia Soul engulfed in flames. Not a good day for that person.

My guess is it was caused by a fuel leak somewhere inside the fuel rail. Since these use the GDI system, the fuel is pressurized over 1000 psi and if there’s any sort of pinhole, it’ll spray fuel everywhere under the hood, all it takes is a ignition source to catch fire. To add insult to injury, if it catches fire when driving, basically up a creek without a paddle since you won’t be able to stop since the fire will have melted the master cylinder, applying the parking/emergency brake won’t do too much either. Someone in Hawaii had theirs catch on fire, since they weren’t able to stop, basically ended up coasting to the shoulder where the driver unfortunately perished. The passengers literally had to jump out to safety.
Could have easily been that! I also read about ABS modules, shorting out, and causing fires.
They issued a park outside notice, then, they could be stolen more easily.
Personally, I don't think I'd be able to trust the brand after all that.

Yes, driving though Fort Worth that day, which is in the DFW area.
I do see a lot of Hyundai and Kia cars on fire here in California.
I drive for Penske, and I see the fires all the time with the Korean brand of cars.
I also see a lot of EVs on fire too.
I've heard about the issue, first one I've actually caught on camera. I haven't seen an EV on fire. Not as common to see one in Texas! I would certainly stay away from all of them you mention.
I never seen a ev on fire but i seen a bunch of old mustangs catch fire.
