  • Three months after planting, the vines are dying back, so that means it's time to dig potatoes. A couple weeks before this video, I needed to make room for my beans to grow, so two rows had already been dug up. This year's potatoes didn't get quite as big as in year's past, but still plenty of delicious, fresh potatoes to last for months!
Thanks for stopping by to watch, please like, subscribe, and ring the bell!

Thanks! It sure is, I never know what to expect, until digging them up.

Lots potats! I wonder how many pots of slime that would make...
You know, it's funny. As a kid, if you were playing in the dirt, you'd get yelled at. As an adult, you're allowed to play in the dirt and nobody yells at you. Can't quite figure that one out.

Parents usually add the caveat "Do as I say, not as I do." That gives them the license to do as they please.

@@tallboyyyy That is true, I have heard that many times growing up.

Not sure they would make a full Uncle Jay triple batch! I am going to attempt make purple mashed potats with the purple ones. Made hash browns a couple weeks ago, they looked weird, but tasted great. The gramps isn’t a fan of them, that much I know.
Funny you mention that! This is the very spot I played in the dirt as a kid. I rigged up a sink with a 5 gallon bucket up in the tree, and could wash up after playing. Yes, trying to come up with a solution to avoid getting yelled at, even back then. Of course, then I got in trouble for playing in the water! Can’t win! I actually have a video of that area from 1995, that I need to digicize.

@@dynatrak I've had purple potats before. Yes, strange looking, but just fine to me. I wish they were more common in the stores, I'd definitely buy them as they are relatively uncommon. Aldi once had a bag of small potats of all different colors. We once got them and made a pot roast on a cold day. That was awesome!
Ha, I know exactly what you mean when you can't win!

I'm jealous. I live in a concrete urban jungle and I am not able to grow food. Maybe one day...

      They grow well in bags.

I agree with jaystus, if you have a small area, you can sure grow some food in containers or grow bags!

How long do they stay fresh with out growing sprouts and withering up? I know you can just break off the sprouts but once they start to shrivel up they aren't that great anymore. I'd be afraid I'd end up throwing half of those away because they'd go bad before I could get to them all.

They should be good until around Thanksgiving. We eat a lot of potatoes. I also give potatoes to relatives as well. Just took about 10 pounds to some relatives last weekend.
