I drove busses for three years out of Catford garage in the late 90’s , Leyland Titans/Olympians mainly, the job ,once trained is simple enough to perform, but two rounders as we called them, actually four..’trips’…is the best part of four hours of stop start stop start every minute or so, this after the aforementioned duration is actually very fraying, I wouldn’t say stressful really but if you lose the plot with the job, it’s utterly fatiguing, the busses were well designed for this multiple stopping and starting, simple to operate, but some drivers are tired as well

Anton i think you should try to find other bus companies like transport UK, metroline, stagecoach and arriva because they have way better exterior’s and interior’s instead of GAL and they have ordered lots of electroliners and GAL is a demonstrator with a bad interior

Truck driver for around 14 yrs home every night worked in North West, South West and London and was a bus driver for almost 10 yrs prior. Biggest differences IMO trucks more control over your time whilst at work but less control over when you actually finish, navigation and route planning is on you in the truck since trucks don't have 'routes'. Truck driving physically harder with more waiting around but typically less actual driving but the driving you do is typically more challenging. Central London supermarket multi drop in an artic harder than driving a bus around the 406 IMO. Truck hours longer than bus on average and wages £60 -£70k pa is for the most part bs unless you're doing abnormal loads weeks away, dangerous goods or insane hours and probably all of these

Interesting to hear your views. Like you I was also 'flashed' recently on a motorway and have been given the option of attending the NMAC course. Also like you I prefer diving at night when the roads are less crowded and you aren't constantly being cut up or tailgated. I was caught on the M23, a variable limit motorway which I use infrequently and am well aware it is variable speed and always try to stick to the limits. On this occasion as I was approaching an overhead gantry and it was showing 60. I stupidly thought I'll just take my foot off the accelerator and the car will slow to 60 and all will be fine. However, the camera was mounted on the same gantry so I was still doing 70 as I went under. Interestingly one of the FAQs I received with my notice reads 'Q. THE SPEED LIMIT CHANGED AS I PASSED UNDER THE SPEED LIMIT SIGN, SO I HAD NO TIME TO REDUCE MY SPEED. A. Drivers are not expected to brake sharply, but rather to reduce their speed. Therefore when a mandatory speed limit chages on the overhead AMI, there is sufficient time to slow down before enforcement begins against the newly displayed limit' This does not seem to be the case. As it was early morning I could easily have braked to slow down as there was no traffic behind me. If it was heavy traffic and someone is tailgating you, you could easily cause an accident by braking suddenly. (Yes the person behind should also have been braking but ............) I was also distracted as the reasons behind the speed limit were road works starting a couple of miles ahead which meant the exit I needed to take was closed and I was trying to think about what i needed to do. for many years I took the speed LIMIT to be what it is - i.e. the maximum and you don't have to drive right up to this value. My behaviour has evolved. Have you ever tried driving below 70 on a motorway? Other drivers cut you up because you're obvioulsly driving like an idiot. HGVs get annoyed because they have to overtake you. Something experienced again recently as I readopted driving below 70 to avoid any more offences. I am also now paranoid about missing a speed sign or reacting late because of concentrating on driving and other vehicles around me. Also, the end of speed limit signs are not always obvious and after a 50 limit, I didnt want to risk assuming it was back to 70 so drove for a few miles at 50 - the added hazard being someone driving into the back of you because they are going at 70 (this was in the inside lane) [This was in an average speed section of motorway with works] I am also interested in your point about being flagged for 61 in a 60 limit. I have a SATNAV in the car which reads a few mph lower than the speedometer - which is correct? As I am referring to the SATNAV I tend to use the speed on that which according to the car speedo means I am over the limit. Again, you need to drive below the LIMIT to allow for this. I have been driving for 47 years and prior to this had no speeding fines until 25 years ago when I was on a local dual carriageway with a 50 mph limit and a section with an underpass. I glanced at the speedo going down hill and noticed I was above 50 but didn't brake as there was a car immediately behind and I thought by the time I come up the hill the other side the speed will have dropped back again. At the bottom of the slope was a layby and a mobile speed trap car had positioned itself there and flashed me doing over 50. No training courses back then so 3 points and a fine. They must have made a few pounds that day.- I was travelling at the speed of all the other vehicles on the road.

Route 390 for me as goes via Oxford Street Station plus runs from Archway north London to Victoria Via Marble Arch 😊

Rather than requiring a license to cycle, there should be a blacklist, so that if they are dangerous on the road, they are not allowed to cycle.

My Favourite Bus Route In London Is The 170 Because it Was Part Of My Childhood, I Used To Ride On That Alot When I Was A Kid Back Then. And I Like The Route 28 as Well Since its Local To Me and Its A Metroline. Other Routes I Also Like Are, 93, 37, 337, 430, 14, 74, 270, 220, 85, 493, and i enjoyed riding on these alot.

Buses used to reverse around a corner in the days of conductors. They had to so as to be able to return to town.The conductor guided them. Some routes, however, had a turning circle (especially trolleybuses!) which made it much easier.
