In my opinion, it’s always best to renew oyster/Zip cards at least 10-15 days before they reach their expiry date, and as it is renewed, then the driver will know that the card is valid. I always renew my card before it gets expired, and that will be much more beneficial.

Right, so not a lot of people know this, but the reason why the passes are so important or if for some reason you get kidnapped or go missing which in London happens quite a lot and allows TfL to help the police locate roughly where you are so you are more likely to be found. I hope this helps any parent wonders why they have to pay £10 for the kids travel free.

Well I'm 26 but because I've got learning difficulties I got a pass that let's me travel for free anywhere on buses in England I've got a Hertfordshire Conessionary bus pass but when I use it on London buses I have to show it to the bus driver as when I tap the machine says not valid for travel but that's because my Conessionary bus pass is issued by a different council Hertfordshire Council so my bus pass only works when I show it to the driver. But you do get a lot of school children not just school children even some people trying to get on the bus without passes and without paying even on Hertfordshire buses it happens.

Can't you Just simply change the card only when it is broken or when the photo needs an update? What is the need for a photo? Can a livetime card save loads of money and prevent discussions in your bus?

The system is broken, unenforceable when a youth gets ion a bus and had no Zip Card, as often see the driver let the youth on, regular offenders, unless the bus operators clamp down, then those Zip Cards should be withdrawn completely, in favour of a normal Oyster Card, if they hadn’t got one, then call the controller, if they refuse to leave the bus, call the police, my way of getting tough with persistent offenders.

    £15 for the 11-15
£10 for the 5-10 (useless unless you look older than you are)
It’s very easy. Order a zip card on the photocard . tfl . gov . uk (remove spaces) put in your passport details or get it manually approved by the post office or your school (you may need to get it manually approved if you have a non-UK Passport). Put a photo with a bright background and enter your address and BOOM there’s your zip card at your door 1 week later.
