I've had a Visitor Card for a number of years, and it still works fine! I didn't know they were still available.

a normal oyster card now costs 7 pounds to buy and the bus fare is now 1.75 plus theres increases on the tube fares too

Hi. I’m from NYC. we can swipe for others no need to buy a card per person. Can I do the same for my mom? Or do I need to buy two oyster cards? Are their senior discount?
Hi Sandra, every adult needs their own Oyster card, only children travel free. The senior discount is only available to people who live in London. I hope that helps.
Hi Shai, great explainer! I’m planning to buy an oyster card a few months in advance… if I set the departure date for a couple of months’ time, would that stop me using it between now and then should the need arise? Am I better to set the date of departure for today’s date in the knowledge that the card won’t expire?
Also (sorry for adding on another question), if you’re travelling with kids, can you specify a young person’s Visitor Oyster card? Just don’t want them inadvertently paying an adult fare!

Hi Simon, an Oyster card validity has no start or end date so you can use it anytime. Children under 11 can use the London Underground for free. If they are aged between 11-15 ask for the Young Visitor discount to be set up on an Oyster card at any Tube, London Overground or Elizabeth line station. This allows a child aged 11 to 15 to travel at 50% off the adult fare for 14 days. The child must be with you when you ask for the Young Visitor discount.

Hello my friend, thanks for watching, so there’s no unlimited rides for two weeks for adults. Only for kids Under 11 with an adult.
I would advise to buy an Oyster card and only use the the train between places that aren’t walking distance. Most tourist sites are walking distance from each other. Use the bus where you can as it’s cheaper but if you’re using the train, try to avoid the busier periods as it’s more expensive. I hope that helps. Please subscribe if you haven’t already.

Great video but you neglected to tell us what happens if you run out of money on your OSTER card. Will my card automatically take money out of my credit card to add funds if i happen to go over while i am using it. And I live in the USA give it give my card to some who is going to london or lives in london. And if i allow some one to use my card… and it runs out of money can they add funds to it or do i have to add the funds since I purchased it with my master card.
Hi Alfonso, thanks for watching and thanks for your question. If you run out of money in your Visitor Oyster card, go to the machine at any London Underground station and top it up. You will be able to pay with cash or card at the machine, I hope that helps, I am here if you have anymore questions. Please feel free to subscribe if you haven’t already.
How do you check the balance remaining on your visitor oyster card?
The only way is to check the balance when you touch out on the machine at a train station. This is why I would recommend a standard Oyster card because you can check it on the ticket machines at train stations.
Thank you for your quick response. The second part of my question which is where I need to answer for: if I was to give my card here in the US to someone visiting England and they run out of money on it. How do they replenish it without me? I guess I’m asking is the card attached to my credit card since I initiated it with my credit card here in the United States.
Apologises, Your visitor oyster card can’t be attached to any type of payment card. They can just go to the same machine I mentioned and top it up with any amount of money.

You need to buy it from a London Underground station, their machines will take cash or card. You can also go to the person behind the desk and buy one.

How many trips are you doing? If it’s just one trip then buy a normal Oyster card at the station. I would mainly recommend a visitors card if you’re going in attractions etc. I will do another video explaining the differences z

You can use any Oyster card you want as Gatwick Airport going into London, the cost depends on time of day but expect to pay at least £7 for a single trip.

Hi Ramesh, this needs to be bought online before you arrive. You can’t but it in a train station.
What if your staying in London for a month? Would you still recommend the visitors Oyster card?
For that duration, get a normal Oyster card from a tube station. It’s much easier.

Hi Ahmed, for 4 days in London, presuming you are only staying in the central areas. I would recommend £30-40 on your oyster. As you’re travelling soon, just buy a Oyster card from a London tube station.
They discontinued the oyster visitor seven day pass since January 8.
That’s brilliant for tourists as London can be quite expensive.

Hi, I'm thinking of buying a visitor oysher (or Oysher) at Gatwick airport and using it on the way to and from the centre of London, and of course during the days I'm in London as I'm mainly going sightseeing.
I plan to take a train to the centre on a Sunday at around 9am and return to the airport at 8pm on a Tuesday.
In other words, on day #1 and #3 I'll be using transport between zone 1 Gatwick, how do I know what the maximum is for that day? And what transport can I use to and from the airport? On day #2 when I use zone 1 and zone 2, the maximum with oysher is £8.50?

Hi Cristiana, what area in zone 1 are you travelling to/from? Normally you can get the Thameslink into London Bridge, Blackfriars, Farringdon and St Pancras International and you will be in zone 1 or you can get the Gatwick Express to Victoria. The Sunday fare is £12.80 and the Tuesday fare is £21.80. O hope that helps.

@@cristianadacunhamartins6020 if you’re going to Liverpool Street then catch the Thameslink into London Bridge and then from there you can either walk to Liverpool Street or jump onto the Northern Line to Bank (1 station) and then the central line to Liverpool Street (1 station).

Thameslink journeys between Gatwick and London zone 1 are covered under the Oyster Card so you only tap in and out once. I hope that helps.

You can do that but I would suggest just buying a Normal Oyster card from a London train station as you will have it immediately. It also comes with benefits such as being able to top it up etc

Great Video, you did not answer about the difference between a visitor oyster card, and the one you buy in London.
Thanks for watching Wes, here are the main differences, Firstly, it costs £5 plus postage for the card to be sent, and unlike the Regular Oystercard, you won't get the £5 back.
For a standard Oyster card you can, if you wish, register online. With Visitor Oyster cards you cannot. The main advantages of being registered online is that if you lose your Oyster you can stop its use, you can get a good audit trail of your journeys and you can request a refund of cash left on your Oyster online direct into your bank account.
The larger drawback is that you can't apply any of the Travelcards to the Visitor Oyster Card. So if you’re travelling lots over a period of a week or so, it might be best to get a normal Oyster Card. These can be bought from any London Underground Station.

@@wesmorrison1211 You can’t unfortunately, it’s best just to pay £10 for the normal Oyster card instead. You can also register it with TFL so that if you lose it, you can get a refund on the amount left on it.

It says on the TFL website: "Buy your Oyster card from the VisitBritain Shop and it will be mailed to you at your home address, fully activated and ready to use for when you arrive in London." But what is a "home address" for a tourist/ visitor from other countries? Should they provide a local address, or will TFL send it to their countries which may take a long time?
