The act of them staying in the competition and publicly protesting and making themselves heard behind the scenes is powerful in itself. Ireland painting the word ceasefire on their stage makeup and having a watermelon plush sitting with them during results, Portugal painting their nails to look like keffiyeh, Italy wearing a black dress and holding her country's flag next to her in what seemed like a representation of Palestine's flag. I believe pulling out of the contest would have also incurred a fine, and it likely still would have kept Israel in the contest and pushed more votes to her. I think the contestants who made statements were doing good, even if there was pushback about their involvement in the contest at all.

As a swede I felt so weird about this year’s Eurovision, because to represent Sweden we had two Norwegians singing in English (I’m not mad about that just think it’s funny) then Loreen a person I despise did a good thing by saying she wouldn’t give isreal the trophy if they won, then Sweden decided it would be good to use some AI abba avatars to say stuff, then there were multiple swedes on twitter saying that the left will be so pissed when israel wins and straight up called anyone who disagreed with them on israel Palestine a nazi and antisemite, then one of the commentators who lived near the arena didn’t get to just go there and do commentary but had to drive to Stockholm to do it. Also the reason that the Swedish commentators made about why israel got to compete was that the israeli performance was by the israel tv network and not the israel government and therefore they got to compete because Eurovision is (to me, allegedly) apolitical.

Eurovision was always politican. It was political when the war on Ukraine broke out. It was political when Troika went to Portugal... Even most of the songs countries send are usually political... How the hell is banning Russia political but keeping Israel isn't?

It's been a week maybe and I almost forgot who won the competition by now, let alone what the mess was about. The runner-up got a welcome ceremony at home in Croatia that filled the main square while the Swiss winner had a small crowd waiting for him at the airport. Unlike all the pseudo-activist artists on stage, Baby Lasagna was pure entertainment without big political statements, just a lot of good music and fun. Even if there had been no protests at all, the only thing worth mentioning was Johnny Logan, Slimane and the sing-along. If they rigged last year's selection to commemorate ABBA's win like this, it's a disaster and the band made a good decision not to show up. Unless Marti Österdahl and some EBU heads resign, it will be just much ado about nothing.

The contest have always been political, ever since the pandemic it hasn't been about voting for the best songs, it have all been about a message or something like that. I stopped watching ever since Alexander Rybak won. I got curious about the drama this year and had to look it up.

Booing Russia occured previously so it shouldn't have supprise the Israeli delegation or the EBU that it would happen to them. The EBU have handled everything so badly this year they will have to make changes to keep the audience they have. After they kicked Russia out they lost a large amount of funding so increased the fees which caused the smaller countries to pull out cause they couldn't afford to carry on. They wouldn't want to oust Israel for fear of losing more funding. So annoying when ethics and values go out the window when money's involved. However I do feel some sympathy for Eden that environment must be so draining and isolating. I also can't believe the way Joost was treated but also the delegation who didn't seem to have much communication with the EBU.The final didn't have the same feeling this year, to me on the night it felt tense. I think that's why Armenia did so well it gave a bit of light and fun amongst the chaos. The whole reason for the competition starting in the first place was to build bridges in Europe after WW2, hopefully they can get back to that core principle.

It's weird to hear people say that Eurovision is non-political and thus it's important to let Israel compete. Didn't the Israeli broadcasters speak ill of the Irish singer and say something along the lines "Bambie thug likes to speak badly about Israel"? That doesn't sound very non-political to me. If it is non-political, then those words should have clear consequences. If it is political, then no country that is actively at war should participate. And this should then apply to Russia as well. The rules seem to be just what EBU wants them to be and that is what causes drama. They should have been clear about everything from the beginning.

I'm gonna say a few things and before I do I want it to be very clear I am strongly against the actions of Israel in the ongoing conflict if you want to avoid the political stuff skip to the line that starts with ok now... I personally think if this competition is truly non political then Israel should be included however, with this the other nations that have been excluded should be allowed to participate. I do not think it should be truly non political though. I do think booing over the performance of Israel in the contest is rude to the artist (admittedly I haven't heard it because my mum made us skip it, which I also think is rude to the artist, so the lyrics could actually be pro conflict in which case I am against the song (I know they reference the conflict in some way though)) it disregards the artist and makes them nothing but a political object based purely off the actions of the country they represent and not the artist themselves. Again I am against the ongoing genocide. also for the simple reason of how well Irael managed to do despite the public opinion being so bad and, personally, the song not even being that good should cause a rework of the voting system to avoid such things for happening again. I don't know what happened with Joost but it definitely doesn't sound major enough to exclude him. ok now onto non political stuff: Estonia got screwed over and should done so much better. Their song was better than several of the song featured. Australia was fire (I am australian so bias) but I don't think people realise how cool it is. I have no memory of anyone playing the digeridoo while walking they usually stand still but the person who played it Milkalila danced that is incredible. should've at least made it to the grand final. I also worry that the bad performance will discourage Australia from sending more songs featuring the aboriginal languages in the future as this was the first year they have done it. This is my first year watching the contest it was fun so I hope it can continue to be so.

Please note that Käärijä did not recognise Eden Golan. He is also a polite person, but in this case was not aware of the situation until afterwards. He was only attending the interval act only as well as performing in Eurovillage, not participating for the whole duration. It is also possible that Eden Golan's delegation set the situation up, but that is speculation. They certainly filmed people secretely. Joost Klein is also Käärijä's friend, and Joost's disqualification on - what may have been a minor incident - would have made up Käärijä's mind.

I think that the scandal is even bigger, but I'm not sure if it will bring out any consequences. The police were called on Joost Klein, so hopefully there will be an official explanation at some point,--specially because Klein will want to clear his name.

Just to add, prior one song was disqualified to participate because their song was too political. Isreal got 3 chances to change their song. Which is unheard off. On top TV commentor broke so many rules whereas for less (just showing a flag) the broadcast was sanctioned by ebu. Ebu doesn’t treat everyone the same and that’s wrong.

Eurovision is one of my special interests and like. I cannot explain how deeply this goes. Like. It was a wild year and so many artists attempted to drop out. The reason so many ended up performing in the finals was because they were told that if they chose to drop out, their semi-final performances would be played instead. The EBU had to cut the audience audio during Israel’s sections and replace it with cheering. Israel’s broadcaster harassed Bambi Thug and then two days later she’s asked if she poses a security risk and she’s like, “nooo, absolutely not.” Nemo (this years winner) had to smuggle in their Nonbinary flag. Nikki tutorials was the Dutch jury representative. Netherlands is looking into suing the EBU. During the final, they made a whole song thirsting after Martin, the head EBU guy, as people were calling for his resignation. During Israel’s rehearsals the crowd sang Europapa. Slimane was heavily fined along with so many of the other artists for their mini protests. The Equality shirt dude wears that every year and makes political comments every year, he’s super sick. Portugal’s performance was censored because her nails were too pro Palestine. Israel cheated by creating ads in several languages and broadcasting them throughout Europe. Abba got their start at Eurovision 50 years prior and refused to show up so they tried to realistically animate them and it’s horrifying. As the dust settles and the fines have all been given out and there’s no risk of getting more, people are now coming out and telling their stories and everything that happened and each week it’s getting clearer and clearer that the EBU is so corrupt.
