Jojo I sincerely feel like would have been an awesome person if she had just been given the stepping stones to reach that point. It really seems like from the outside that her entire life has been content production and performance and like, honestly, what else do we expect her to do when that is ALL she has ever done. I do hold some empathy for her.
I hold A LOT of empathy. I wonder if some of her harsher critics understand what kind of trauma came with Dance Moms. She's also only 21 and while I'm sure the immediate response would be "when I was 21 I knew better", Jojo didn't have the same childhood as most people. She was influenced by terrible people left and right, I genuinely think she doesn't understand why some of her behaviors aren't okay. I think she has a chance to grow into her own person, but not while there are so many critical eyes on her. She needs to get away from her mother, especially.
I really do think there was a period where she was growing and finding herself away from her mother, but I think ultimately her mother continues to emotionally and financially abuse her. And unfortunately, it’s really held JoJo back from growth. I really do have hope for her though. It’s not too late for her to reevaluate and maybe even find a place in music once she is able to find healing for herself.

The thing is at some point you have to be financially realistic about helping your kid achieve their dreams. There’s nothing wrong with encouraging your kid to have passion and goals (you should), but if it comes to the detriment of forcing your OTHER CHILDREN and SPOUSE into a financially precarious situation (esp when you were financially stable before this), then you need to reevaluate your decisions. Additionally, the fact that these parents were more than okay with letting someone abuse their kids (I do understand that contracts were involved) and decided to stay is absolutely wild.

I think both parties can be culpable to a degree: the people who perpetuated the abuse, made the contracts, created the situation, but also the person who was meant to advocate for her child. Still i dont think we can put the parents responsibility above jojos
I think the way her Jojo's mother thrust her so far into the spotlight was the thing that set Jojo up for failure. She was branded as an innocent child star and was forced to keep playing into that narrative for many years at such a young and impressionable age to keep providing for her family.
I hope Jojo is able to realise that she does not have to live in the spotlight to live a wonderful and fulfilling life, and I hope with that she's able to put this weird image behind her and move on to what she truly wants to do instead of doing what she or her mother thinks will draw or keep eyes.

The older I get the more I'm so grateful I had a relatively normal childhood, grew up with loving parents who didn't use me for money, and became a normal, regular, everyday adult. Growing up in LA sounds like a freaking nightmare.
