Fextralife really does suck. Even if they had nothing to do with the reddit voting issue (doubt), their obnoxious SEO and Twitch embed abuse completely ruins my interest in using their wiki/supporting them in any way, even passively. I would never trust them to produce a good quality game wiki.
Oh and their name sounds too much like "fetlife".
their wikis are shit... everytime i want to look something up, i get fextralife links as top results and when clicking those, you're basically presented with clickbait because all they offer is either extremely vague, confusingly illogical or downright wrong... as a gamewiki, they are absolutely useless

Hey, AsmonGold! I've never seen his gaming content, but weirdly enough, he was one of the live streamers who covered the Depp v Heard court case and I really appreciated the lack of grossness or sexism in his presentation: his commentary was just about her behavior in court and reacting to alleged behavior of hers, he didn't dip into any "oh, just like these femoids out here, lying about their men" or whatever other nonsense. I genuinely thought she was the primary aggressor and a straight up liar, but I didn't need any extra commentary trying to link that behavior to her being a woman, rather than her being a narc and an asshole.

I feel if google wasn't full of AI generated incorrect articles there probably wouldn't be as much traffic there but it's a good way to get reliable information on a lot of games that are unplayable without wikis
It's really not because Fextralife happens to also be full of incorrect, downright missing or misleading information.
Community wikis are much better and you can probably find them for any game that Fextra has a wiki for, but buried on the Google search results cause they don't pay to be shoved to the top

I remember using their wiki for elden ring. It was one of those walking mausoleums in the snow area that had projectiles. Their wiki said to wait for it to go down at night time. My dumbass fell for it and waited around the area for nothing to happen 😂
Im not sure about that specific mausoleum, but you CAN wait for them to sleep. It happens LATE at night, though, you cant just sit at a grace and pass time until night. Still gotta wait around.

Advertisers also shouldn’t encourage streamers to stream-bot. Think about it, as a sponsor, you want your advertisements to reach REAL people that will purchase your product/service, and you can’t really do that on a stream where majority of “views” are not done by real people. It’s harmful for business, it’s a waste of money, and it fosters bad blood and poor reputation for your product (as well as for the streamer you’re sponsoring). It’s just bad all around, the cons far outweighs any pros.
Sponsors are aware of embeds. If sponsors were getting scammed by fextra they would have been blacklisted from advertisers long ago.
By all means, embeds aren't viewers. Nobody is watching a twitch stream through a wiki page for any length of time, and the fact that it's so bad as to have thousands of non-viewers at any given point is, as Asmon says, a disgrace to any system that uses views as a worthwhile metric.
idk how this hasnt blown up this is enthralling. i didnt know FL but recently they were one of the wiki that were in use for starfield, i used it a couple times so when you said the community wiki was down voted i could tell where it was going immediately.

I cant escape fextralife theyre wiki was good but now its inaccurate but it also had the most info on certain games. The shit with the twitch is just scummy. But its immpossible to find wikis other than them because they force their wiki to top results

So just getting in but figured I'd chime in. With vtubers especially corporate vtubers, they do debut with a good amount of watchers on their first stream. the community is often informed of the incoming vtuber debut usually about a month in advance, even if thats just dropping himts a new wave is coming out. With that in mind people being aware of the characters design from the go people will follow because they like the design or want to judge at debut. There have been so many talents from corporations like anycolor or holor live to this day have debuts that have followers over 100k before they debut. So as this may seem like operas vtuber fits here, it doesn't really. The vtubing community knew about opera making a corporate vtuber for months before her debut happened. It was announced and open to applications to be cast as her with us already knowing what she looked like.
I can however see where it could have to someone that knows nothing about vtubers to misunderstand and the draw attention towards fextralife.

i love how fextra response says "linking to his own wiki" and "he has no proof and only he has managed to do the test" as if the mod who raised the question was some kind of rival of fextra, trying to get ahead. Ignoring that "his own wiki" is the standard wiki page that exist for everything and as if the "test" in questions is something only the one mod saw, instead of the hundreds of commenters who watched their post and comments get downboted in all the previous days. i wonder how this situation is doing now that a few months have passed

God, I remember them taking over the Dark Souls subreddit. This was before 2014 too! They pushed out the community wiki, stole content from them and pushed Fextralife.
It’s always weird when you see someone with thousands of viewers and a completely empty chat.
Someone reading Fextralife with zero context would think it's a MLM scheme selling supplements not a streamer.
It's not too far off but damn think of a name that doesn't trigger 10 red flags and a URL that doesn't scream malware.

The thing is, people aren't viewing the ads. They have banners on their channel description. 0% of people would even know they're there. And whatever ads are directly embedded in the stream also wouldn't be seen by 99% of "viewers" that have the stream muted (the default behavior on chrome based browsers) and hidden away in a random tab. They're still finessing advertisers, like Asmon said, they're probably gonna catch on sooner or later that the numbers don't match

We should first check if the moderator blaming them is really involved with the other competitive website to Fextralife's. Because if that's true, this changes everything, it might really be badmouthing on an insane level.

I think things need to be separated here. Reddit downvoting and embedded Twitch streams are 2 different things. They are not related. And for the latter Twitch need to add a counter that shows the viewer number that is not on the main site.
Mostly i avoide the fextralife wikis. It crashed a few years ago my Twitch Year End feedback, so that i didnt want to share. #1 was Fextralive far away from number 2 and 3. And i never watched this Streamer.
Sadly for Soulsgames, there are no other good wikis that are comes close.

Good video, though the embed issue (which while it isn't viewbotting, has always been bad) is just being brought to the extreme with Fextralife. Unfortunately, it's endorsed by Twitch to embed on websites for exposure so unless they change their rules on it, Fextralife isn't doing anything wrong.

I think most of these criticisms are valid, and while I agree that they’re definitely a benefactor of the embedding feature, it’s hard for me to say it’s the same as viewbotting when it’s directly supported by twitch. Is it still manipulative and probably unethical? Yeah, but I think exploiting a design flaw in the platform to promote yourself is definitely different than violating the TOS by purchasing fake viewers.
If they want to be successful they should focus on making their wiki actually good lmao I have found so much inaccurate info abt bg3 alone on their wiki to the point where despite being completely ignorant to this entire scandal until now I actively tried to avoid fextralife because their wiki sucked so bad. 😅

I'm sorry for misunderstanding, since I'm not a fan of their 'wiki' either, but what was presented here that would count as evidence of anything but narcissism? My understanding of embeds is that Twitch wouldn't count those 'views', since they're embeds. Do youtube vids get their view counts inflated by embeds on other pages? If they claim is that they're using bots in conjunction with embeds, then where is the evidence that they've done this? Being able to do a thing isn't actually evidence of having done it.
they do, depending on how its embedded, their is a reason Fextra doesn't stream anymore not even 2 months after being called out. It's cus he stopped doing it and his viewership plummeted to barely 3-4k cus the embeds keep getting removed cus Wiki is cracking down on it.
