The Most Dangerous Race Car Ever Made
Today I wanted to talk about the most dangerous race car ever made, in my opinion. That would be the Honda RA302, a magnesium Formula 1 car built by Honda for the 1968 season.
In it's first ever race, the 1968 French GP, Jo Schlesser would lose control of the RA302 only two laps into the race. It would flip and land upside down on an embankment. The fuel tank would split open, where fuel would drip onto the exhaust and ignite instantly. Due to the magnesium design of the car, and the flammable nature of the material, the entire car would go up in flames and would burn for over ten minutes. All while the race went on around it.
Racing in the 1960's was a wild time.

Thank you for watching! Mercedes is one of the most historic and successful motorsport franchises in history. They've been through the gauntlet in Formula 1, and in today's video I wanted to dig into the specifics of what made Mercedes so successful in the first place and what caused their downfall. The story of Mercedes in Formula 1 begins way back in the early days of the sport, and it's had ...
Why It’s Almost Impossible to Stop From 200 MPH in 3 Seconds

I've always been fascinated by the brakes in Formula 1 cars. They're able to stop from over 200 MPH in under four seconds, and when you see clips of these cars going into the braking zones it almost looks like a glitch. I wanted to learn more about how the brakes in Formula 1 cars worked, and race cars in general. What makes them different to standard brakes on road cars, and would it be possib...

Thank you for watching! Today we're digging into the V10 era of Formula 1, what some call the golden age of F1. More specifically, why these engines lived such short lives. During the V10 era and before, it wasn't uncommon for the engine to be rebuilt after every session during a grand prix weekend. I wanted to learn more about why. Music by Stomp's Playlist on CZcams.

First of all, thank you everybody for 10,000 subscribers! You're all the best. Mclaren has had one of the craziest mid-season development curves we've ever seen in Formula 1. To your point that to make the fastest braking F1 car you would throw ABS on it to improve braking performance. As a former racing driver I would like to add that good drivers, that now their car well, will definitely out-brake ABS. Braking with the highest possible pressure input without locking up will give you better braking performance than just slamming on a full emergency break and let ABS do the work. When ABS is applied there is still quite a bit of tire locking going on, ABS just makes the brakes lock and release in very short intervals. ABS is a safety solution for regular divers and not a tool to improve braking performance in racing for professionals.

The only thing I think he missed was that Mercedes didn’t ignore the 2013 car for the 2014 car. They spent a mountain of money starting as early as 2010 on the engine. Bernie Ecclestone estimates spent between 600 and 700 million to develop that engine. They already had a pretty aerodynamic foundation and that engine sent them over the top. I would also say that they have more success than he implied in the late V8 era. They were second in the championship behind an all conquering Red Bull. Getting ahead of Ferrari and McLaren in that era was no small feat.

The funny thing is that the zero pod W13 was the right way to go the whole time. Seeing where aero development is moving on the RB/Ferrari side 2 years later, mercedes had the best upper aero, but they had no idea how to make a suspension and floor. When the W13 got its new floor, it was really, really fast, but only on smooth tracks. So in the W15 the chassis is all new, using the upgraded w13 floor, with w14 sidepods. They had it right, they simply didn't have the engineers to fix it. The design wasn't ridiculous, it was just ahead of its time. In 2026, watch RB of Ferrari bring a zero pod car. They will. You heard it here first.

1:09 700g, I think not, that would be the equivalent of an acceleration/deceleration of 6867ms-^2 and equivalent to a stopping time of 6.5 ms from a speed of 100MPH exerting a force on a person of mass 100kg of ~687kN, i.e. the equivalent of crashing into a tree at 100MPH. The maximum g-force during a formula 1 has been measured at 6g cornering, which translates into a centripetal acceleration of 58.86ms-^2 or a centripetal reaction on a 100kg driver of 5.9kN.
