5.5 watt users try 75% slower settings. 20 watt OUTPUT or higher try 75% faster or lower power for precise engraving. Always test and use your manufacturer’s recommended settings. ☺️
I completely forgot to show how I hand sanded with a small piece of 220 grit sandpaper to make the lettering pop more and take of any scorching. Ooops! I will also spray this with Tremclad 2x gloss clear. Don’t use poly acrylic! It will reactivate the paint and smear it!

    Hi when using laser grbl software when I try to jog the x axsis the y axsis moves instead I've checked all wiring is correct any ideas as to why this would be happening?

    • @disignscdn
      @disignscdn Před dnem

      That is a strange thing to be happening.😱 x axis being left to right and y axis being front to back of the machine. What happens when you jog only the y axis? I'm wondering if something got inverted in the code somehow as most laser machines only have 1 way to plug them in and are pretty foolproof unless something got crossed at time of manufacturing? What Laser machine are you using?

      @@kernowcoinringscornishcoin3999 It shouldn't. If you are jogging your x than your x axis should move not your y axis. I did try searching it up and found that someone was having similar issues and this is how they tested it. ( see link ) I hope this helps. I definitely recommend putting in a request for technical advice with Atomstack as well. forum.lightburnsoftware.com/t/my-atomstack-p7-suddenly-stopped-working-effectively-in-the-y-axis-and-now-returns-alarm-9-and-alarm-1-messages-can-anyone-help/89593

      @disignscdn thanks for your help would there be anything in the laser grbl settings to invert the x and y

    • @disignscdn
      @disignscdn Před dnem

      @@kernowcoinringscornishcoin3999 That would be $23 in GRBL configurations . That only inverts your homing position and should not invert the X and Y axis when jogging . When you home the machine now , what direction does it go to home? Bottom left or top right ? . I just read another post that said disabling hard and soft limits in GRBL settings helped one fellow. Is this machine brand new to you or did it just start to do this on you? As possibly updating the firmware for it may help as well . That should be available on the manufacturers website. Secondly are you using a laptop or computer. You may need to install the CH340 Driver you will see under a tab in LaserGRBL at the top right for it to run correctly. Unfortunately I don’t own the same type of Laser as you to help with any of your LaserGRBL configurations . But if you’d like to take screen shots of your configurations , your X and Y plugins etc. and e-mail them to dianecolclough70@gmail.com , I might be able to spot if something is off 😊

    • @disignscdn
      @disignscdn Před 6 dny

      That is what I’m using is inexpensive acrylic water based craft paint just from the dollar store. I have found it has a pretty good UV ( sunshine) resistance as well with a good clear coat ) I have stuff from 10 years ago sitting on my porch with no fading or sun bleaching in the colours. You can also get outdoor acrylic water based paints like the Ohuhu brand. They have some beautiful pigment rich colours and can be watered down as well. 😊

      I’m not sure exactly what you mean? Are you having issues engraving or cutting? Is what you are wanting to cut a solid fill when bringing it into LaserGRBL ? Because if it is just an outline , and you are vectorizing it , with no fills turned on , it will just give you a double line☺️.

    Hello do you have to have a rotor to engrave on glass I'm new to engraving

    • @disignscdn
      @disignscdn Před měsícem

      It depends on your machine. For example Xtool machines can engrave a curved surface because they now come with automatic height calibration. I have seen bottles and glasses done without a rotary. Keep in mind though the outer edges of any graphic will be not be at the optimal focus height that the very center ( highest height ) of a glass would be at. This can cause thicker lines, not fully engraving into a glass or faded in appearance engraving. You are safe to do smaller in size engravings. Hope this helps :)

      So after picking the com for your laser engraver ( it must be turned on) and clicking on “connect” they are still grey? If they are still grey , I’m going to assume you are not connecting properly as you don’t have all the functions of LaserGRBL . You may need to install the CH340 drivers as it no longer is automatically included in some computers and laptops. It’s available right in LaserGRBL under the far right upper tabs. Okkkkk.. video 38 ! I accidently made it public before You-Tube was finished processing it up to HD High Definition ..DOH! 😜 So for the first couple of viewers.. sorry about that ! It’s all better now and check your settings when you view it that it’s on HD. Let me know how the sound is on this one as I tried to enhance it. I also realized I forgot to add that I did hand sand with a small piece of 220 grit sandpaper.. not because I’m cheap…😂 A small piece is so I can fold and sand spots precisely without hitting other layers. Do not use a power sander. You’ll lose some layers! But sanding any scorched top layers will make them bright and pop more. I will be finishing this with Tremclad 2x clear coat. Don’t use polyacrylic.. it will react with your paint and it will smear!! Please post and share your pictures with the group if you try these projects. I’d love to see everyone’s work 🤗

    • @disignscdn
      @disignscdn Před 4 měsíci

      Could be a number of things. First check you have dynamic power selected and not constant power . It’s a common mistake. You may be going to high a power and to slow of speed. Do you have air assist and what type of machine and laser output do you have?

    • @disignscdn
      @disignscdn Před 4 měsíci

      You may have your number of lines set too high as well that can scorch out an image .

      @@disignscdn I'm very new to this but your video really helped me get onto lasergrbl thanks for that I'm not sure the watts air assist laser out put🥴 lol not sure where they might be but I have a Atomstack P7 laser engraving machine size 200*200mm

    • @disignscdn
      @disignscdn Před 4 měsíci

      @@redingslone Is Yours the M30 or M40 ? Both will come with a 4.5 watt to 5.5 watt output laser. Check your laser for an output sticker. Item model number: ATOMSTACK P7 M30 Engraving area: 200*200mm Engraving materials: wood, bamboo, cardboard, plastic, leather, MDF, slate, lacquered metal, mirror stainless steel; Cutting material: cardboard, non-woven fabric, veneer, acrylic, some thin plastic board, sponge, MDF, leather; Electric power output: 30W **** Laser power output: 4.5-5.5W***** Wave Length: 445 ± 5nm Engraving accuracy: 0.01mm Focusing method: fixed focus laser, no need to focus from what I can tell it does not come with air assist. Air assist is an additional airline with air compressor / pump. I see it says it is a fixed focus , but it has an adjustment knob. If it was truly fixed, whatever you are engraving, it must sit on it / not be raised. But again it has a knob and comes with a black card that you will ( In lasergrbl ) turn on the laser ( focus button) and you will use the tiny black card under it to get it to the smallest finest dot. Maybe in some You-tube videos on the maker they will tell you an exact focus height range that then you can dial it in more precisely. Good Luck! :)

      @disignscdn Před 4 měsíci

      @@redingslone the 1 video I just watched for it uses the black card. Put the card on top of what you are engraving then lower the laser with the knob till it is touching the card. Check out the Atomstack web site for recommended settings of speed and power for material. Lasergrbl may have some in the reference library ( click on the little book icon in the second dialogue box that pops up ) :)

    You can also use the mask on your wood BEFORE you engrave and that will keep the scorching off of the wood. You can do your spray seal before removing the mask. Taking off the mask on this engraving would be time-consuming but worth the effort. Beautiful work.

    • @disignscdn
      @disignscdn Před 5 měsíci

      Hi! Thanks for sharing. :) I have used paper transfer tape in the past before though. I found I had to go ALOT slower to make it through the mask and to get it as deep as I wanted in to the wood. There was a considerable amount of smoke, so I'm thankful for my DIY enclosure and exhaust fan. :)

      Are you using clear glass or coloured glass? How's your focus? Is your lens clean to get optimal power? Maybe slow down your speed and test with a small circle till you see it marking. And finally, I'm not sure what you mean by solid wood as my source? :)

    • @disignscdn
      @disignscdn Před 5 měsíci

      Hi! Sorry for the late delay in answering but I don’t seem to be getting notifications 🤔 Now what type of file are you trying to open ? LaserGRBL will open .png & .jpg for images . Now careful because .svg, .dxf files will only open in line art. You can not edit the size of these either, only your settings( speed and power) so make sure they are to the scale you need prior to exporting , then importing.

    Hi, thanks for providing this information. It has helped answer many questions. I do however have two questions... 1. Are there any fumes or smells burning on the paint? 2. My other question pertains to focusing. I have a Creality 10w diode laser which comes with a 3-step focusing tool accessory that slides under the head. These steps are marked "Engrave/Cutting Thickness of Basswood 1-3mm", "Cutting Thickness of Basswood 4-6mm," "Cutting Thickness of Basswood 7-8mm". Any suggestions as how I would focus for plate glass?

    • @disignscdn
      @disignscdn Před 5 měsíci

      I get no fumes at all when using acrylic craft paint. But I’ve always had an exhaust fan off to the side. For your focus , I would assume using the level that says engrave rather than the cut levels. Sorry for the delay in answering, I just got the notification now .😊
