    I just wanted to take a moment and say "Thank You" for your time you spent on this video . . . and for doing it in the first place. I wanted to make 4 special drinking glasses for my son and DIL . . . for Christmas . . . and time for experimenting was short. Your video allowed me to come in on Dec 23 at 7 AM and have all 4 done by noon time. Couple of places I kinda wondered what you were doing . . . then I watched it again . . . it worked out. And I did use Laser GRBL and my Ortur LM3 . . . Thanks again . . . hope you have a wonderful and merry Christmas.

    Thank you so much for sharing this; I've just connected a rotary table seamlessly to my Sculpfun after watching your video. Regards from the UK👍👏👏

      So Glad I could help! Did you go with the Sculpfun Rotary? I'm curious on how it works for you :)

      @@disignscdnNo, I just bought a generic one and it worked fine. I'd already fitted limit switches successfully and just fancied getting a rotary roller. Thanks once again for your videos; they're really useful for newbies like me!!😉👍👏

      Awesome! Glad it worked for you! My ORTUR rotary doesn’t want to work with my Sculpfun so that’s why I was curious 😊

      @@disignscdn I looked at the Ortur and read that you need to swap the two middle wires in the connector cable for it to function correctly with the Sculpfun machine 😉👍. Regards again. 👏👏

      Nice! I figured it had something to do with the wiring and just haven’t had a chance to look it up. 😊

    first i want to say thank you, because so far your video answered a lot of questions so far...
    i am currently engraving some small green tinted glass jars and the engraving is working, but, i was wondering if they would also need to be painted to make the engraving smoother and instead of paint could painters tape be used?
    thanks for you videos they are very helpful, especially because you use lasergrbl.
    i tried lightburn and it doesnt seem to work the laser power properly for my longer ray 5 10w.

    • @disignscdn
      @disignscdn  Před 7 měsíci

      @jims9895 I'd suggest trying some paint so the laser isn't going through the transparency of the glass in spots. Painters tape is kind of a pain to get off afterwards and if you have to layer / overlap a few pieces your engraving may not be consistent :)

    Hello do you have to have a rotor to engrave on glass I'm new to engraving

    • @disignscdn
      @disignscdn  Před měsícem

      It depends on your machine. For example Xtool machines can engrave a curved surface because they now come with automatic height calibration. I have seen bottles and glasses done without a rotary. Keep in mind though the outer edges of any graphic will be not be at the optimal focus height that the very center ( highest height ) of a glass would be at. This can cause thicker lines, not fully engraving into a glass or faded in appearance engraving. You are safe to do smaller in size engravings. Hope this helps :)

    I tried to engrave a simple 1in x 1in square... and instead it looks like a rhomboid... what am i doing wrong?

      @disignscdn  Před 7 měsíci +1

      If you changed your grbl settings to 80mm sec to match your stepper motor speed, your issue could be your belts are too tight on the rotary, or are working with a tapered cup that not all contact on the rotary rollers are even. I’ve had to weigh some cups down by using a diy weight I made that just slides into the top of the cup. Now if you are using the clamp rotary that works like a vice.. I can’t help you with that as I haven’t tried it yet . I have seen some posts on the ORTUR user pages on Facebook though :)

    What design program are you using?

    • @disignscdn
      @disignscdn  Před 10 dny

      I’m using Signmaster Expert, Corel Draw 9 &12 ( Signmaster comes with vinyl cutters and I upgraded to Expert. I picked up Corel Draw 12 for cheap off of e-bay it’s muchly needed for editing svg’s. Corel 9 was too early a version for svg’s) I also use Gimp for photos . 😊

    Need help I all the same setting as you on glass and I am using paint. nothing is working. Are you using solid wood as your source or a different setting.

    • @disignscdn
      @disignscdn  Před 6 měsíci

      Are you using clear glass or coloured glass? How's your focus? Is your lens clean to get optimal power? Maybe slow down your speed and test with a small circle till you see it marking. And finally, I'm not sure what you mean by solid wood as my source? :)

    my image is coming out stretched any idea??

    • @disignscdn
      @disignscdn  Před 8 měsíci

      I've got a few ideas as to why.. 1. check Value $101 to make sure you have it at 80.000 . Most rotarys are set up to only go that speed. Now I had some stretch and it going down sideways once, but it was on a tear drop cup. What I needed to do, (and this can go for any lightweight cup as well) I made a weight to slide in the top of the cup to just below the rim. My fancy Schmancy weight was a ribbon tube, Put magnetic tape around it till it was the right circumference, this helped add some weight to the top to keep it right on the rollers while turning. Are you having any issues with completely even cylindrical objects?

    • @disignscdn
      @disignscdn  Před 8 měsíci +1

      Eventually I would like to go with a rotary chuck myself. Far more options for engraving. Another solution if you are doing tapered objects is making a piece to go over the smaller end the same diameter as the larger end. Technically on a tapered object the thicker part rotates faster than the slimmer part. ( depending how you have it set..this can be opposite) Its a lot of work to tweak it just right. But you can put tape over an object and engrave on a lower power till you get it just right :)

    • @Onceuponajuan
      @Onceuponajuan Před 8 měsíci

      @disignscdn thank you! I first started with lightburn, but then had a problem when my chuck wouldn't rotate... so I found your video and I looked at all the same settings you mentioned in lasergrbl a couple times and still image is very streched, I could compensate and resize the image, but I went back to lightburn, where I found that my chucks speed was way to high and it kept it from moving... also I did need to change my interval to a lower value. This setup ended up working out for me. Thank for reaching out and answers 🫶
