The Faces of Danang's Expat Enclave
I return to this topic occasionally. An Thuong is a patch of heaven near the beach in central Vietnam. It's known as the expat enclave. I walk through here a lot. I try to walk 10,000 steps a day and often find myself wandering a continuous figure eight through this neighborhood. These are the people I run into all of the time. The workers. The unsung, unacknowledged people who make this place hum and sing. I tip my hat to them. Good job everybody.

Hi Everybody. I am 188cm and 94kg. It is hard to find clothes in DaNang. A normal Vietnamese size XXXL barely fits. I have discovered over some time just how easy it is to have clothes custom made, and to have clothes copied. This time I returned to the same ladies who copied my falling apart cargo shorts to have them copy my favorite big shirt. This is that story. Enjoy. Help me keep this work...
Running to the Border With Lynn Visa
zhlédnutí 238Před 14 dny
If we exist in Vietnam as tourists, we have only 90 day tourist visas available to us. We must by law be gone before they expire, and we can only return on a new visa. The exception of course is the multi-entry visa, but it, too, is only 90 days. Lynn Visa offers many visa services including helping us get visas, and, the border run to Lao Bao, so we can exit Vietnam, enter Laos, exit Laos, and...

This all started when I agreed to meet Thuy in front of Starbucks on the river. She was late. I was alone with my camera. Eating, Shopping, and Exploring Hoi An

I wandered down to Hoi An to eat at ROM, my favorite vegan joint. I am shopping for gloves so I stopped by the leather shop to see if the girls could swing it (Suong & Phuong), and I have spotted a new beach to explore, which actually deserves another trip or two. On my way home I stopped at another beach, and later when I looked for it on the map it was impossible to determine which one it was...

At this moment, ADBO is unrecognisable. A shell of its former self. Renovations perhaps for ADBO 2.0…??
adobo moved to Wok Hei until massive reno completes on An Thuong 2.
@@chuckmyntti ahh ADOBO… I see now 😌 I thought it was renovations because it seemed business was doing well for them due to the amount of customers coming through. Good for them. I wish ADOBO luck.
That's the best video you've made, Chuck. Nice...
Nice collection of fun people, Chuck.
Production and music score was to perfection 👌🏼
Excellent photography!...You captured the people perfectly... Did you shoot film in the past? Aloha, Rene'
@@Rene-xp3ib yes. before digital, yes.
Nice one. material and colour looks great. Seems like a great place to get travel clothes made.
❤
Interesting to see the process of having shirts made there.
Chuck, I am truly hoping that one day in the near future you will make a decision for yourself that you want to start eating everything once again, including meats. I would love to see a video series from you about how an ex vegan gets his mind blown from tasting real authentic Vietnamese food for the first time. It would be very great entertainment to watch you try one Vietnamese dish after another, and your videos might go viral on You Tube to change your life for the better. BTW Chuck, those Vietnamese shirts that you already owned with the long sleeves that are not quite long enough for your arms should be alter by the tailors into short sleeves shirts. That way you can move your arms much better and have a bunch of short sleeves collar shirts to wear on those really hot days.
i spent three years here eating everything. i'm not missing anything. Vegan is by far the way to go.
@@chuckmyntti Dr. McDougall just pass away at the age of 77. RIP John McDougall. His death was his last gift to us all. His last gift was a shocking warning that we are omnivores and thus we must eat like omnivores in moderation. He died at home in his bed in peace from malnutrition. He wife was by his side in the end.

@@chuckmyntti what adopting veganism does to ones body and mind is special. dont miss anything and feel great! btw would have been nice to see you in the shirts and see how they fit!
I'm glad that Hoi An is still a great place to have clothes tailor made. I was there in 2004, and back then you can have a whole suit with Italian wool and silk lining tailor made for $100. I believe a Tailored shirt would only cost $5 each back in 2004, and now in 2024 a tailored shirt cost $20/each. It seems kind of inappropriate for the price on the tailored shirt to have gone up 400% in 20 years. I think they gave you the tourist's price on the shirts. If you spoke a little Vietnamese, you might had bargained a much lower price on those shirts. Chuck, you really need to learn how to haggle a lot better over the final price, because the Vietnamese vendors lose respect for Americans when so many Americans give in and pay so much more than the fair profitable price.
The lady robbed you You get it for half price if you negotiate
I hate when they do not say the price, that should be first!!!!!!
watch it again. all prices were said or subtitled.
So you apply for an e-visa before the border run, I guess. So you can leave VN on the day your old visa expires and come back on the same day with a new visa. How much does Lynn charge for this trip?
I ask Lynn for my next visa about 60 days prior ro my current visa expiring. That's one part of this. The other part is deciding on whether I am going to Lao Bao with Lynn or flying to BKK. If I am flying to BKK, I will fly on the day my visa expires, and my new visa will begin on the day I fly back. I tell Lynn my plans and when I am returning and she gets me a visa with the dates I want. If I am going to Lao Bao and my visa expires on the 11th and the nearest border run by bus is on the 8th, then I will go on the eighth and eat three days on my visa. and then your next visa is 90 days from the 8th...
Reach out to Lynn for pricing. She's in FB.
That is some very beautiful country. I remember the QuangTri Dong Ha run via Huey from Da Nang. By road was a no. It seems Lyn has her stuff together and is the go to for quite some time. Glad to hear it went well.. Can you mention the cost? Aloha, Rene' P.S. I just looked at my PP and in the first page is a one year multiple entry...Time moves... Og

It would be nice if an electric bike could be charged downstairs
yeah, sure. you can work it out with your landlord
Fire hazardous from battery preventing me from buying ebike in VN. Recently, fire from bikes repair shop killed dozen people in Hanoi, and I wouldn't stay at any apartment that allowed ebike charging inside. Due to the popularity of ebike, a lot of fire accidents from e-bike in VN that killed many people. More and more high-rise buildings won't allow e-bikes to park inside . The e-bikes cheaply made in china sale at low prices for school students the reliability is big problem. You better off with gas engine bikes.
WoW wonderful Timelapse 😍 I’m enjoying these Time-lapses with the music

You and your VEGAN joints! Eat some food! And oh BTW it didn’t rain in Danang last week!? Rice fields took two showers to turn green…
Two things: Go Vegan to protect your arteries and veins; and thanks for the update on the rice fields.
The rice has just been harvested a couple of weeks ago and there will be another crop before September in Hoi An they have all the water they need because of the river system here Irrigation is not a problem so there is always 2 crops a year 😊😊😊
ok thanks. good to know!

Chuck, it had been a weird winter and spring season. I haven't had to use my furnace once this entire winter and spring season in Northern California. That is rare indeed. The weather is definitely getting warmer and not just in Danang.
Very enjoyed your video. Plenty of space in Da Nang, lots wide roads. Thanks Chuck!
OK, I will :D
Currently living in An Thuong. My wife and I are heading to Canada for a year after almost 2 years total in Da Nang. When we return, I will purchase a motorcycle. I need something that will carry 2 comfortably for journeys around Vietnam, as well as in town. I was considering the Triumph 400 but the rear seat is going to be an issue for my wife, so one of the larger scooters is in the plan. 300-400 cc should be comfortable enough for the boss. I've ridden motorcycles since I was 12 and I do understand that riding here and other parts of Asia is a different skill to learn. Thanks for this video. It shows how the game is played. ;-)
Honda makes the SH scooter in 300cc ... it's a solid machine. you can add a trunk box for back support for your wife and for groceries, rain gear, helmets, etc.
@@chuckmyntti Yes, I've been researching the SH. Nice, good quality machine. Slightly smaller than my 1.8 ltr. Honda Goldwing but one adapts. Cheers.
