Vietnam is a GREAT place
I've been living in Vietnam for the past 9 years and I must say, it's not what most Westerners would consider "normal". The local customs, such as spitting and urinating in public, as well as the illogical road rules and hygiene standards, might come as a shock to some. Not to mention, the rampant littering and destruction of the environment. Don't get me wrong, I love the country and its people, but it's hard to ignore these issues and accept them as "normal". We are Nha Trang for a month. Vietnam is pretty good and fairly open these days, but not as easy as say Thailand (which is really hot at the moment). It is cheap; 5 oysters for around a $1 all prepared and delicious ready to eat. With an Andriod phone its easy to Google translate and I have even figured out (a bit) the roman characters with accents (use the Google keyboard and it all works fine). So its easy to pickup some words for ordering food and such. We do live in amazing times with all the tech, easy transfer of money abroad, etc.
