  • I have wanted to film this for awhile now. I walked through here with Jumy but didn't have a camera. This is a nice section of Old Town Hoi An to explore if you want to be away from the Japanese Bridge area that is super crowded during high season. Enjoy... Leave comments. tell me what you think.

Hi Chuck, hope you are well and good to see your weekly 'small film' 🙂 The last section on your way home reminded me of the off beaten tracks we hit thro the rice fields back in February, and the Miss Ha Café looks pretty cool in the middle of nowhere and will be a future 'must see/visit' 👍

Thank you. I believe that you may have walked past the only place I would visit in Hoi An, as you departed the restaurant area of the public market. There was a large well underneath a canopy that may be the ancient Cham well that I want to see. I am an amateur Champa researcher, having written the only through description of the economy of ancient Champa in my 1972 M.A. geography thesis at University of Hawaii at Manoa. It has been cited in several scholarly papers and textbooks about Southeast Asia. It focused on irrigation and maritime systems, and hypothesized that temples played a role as economic engines, similar to their function in ancient India and the Khmer Empire. I was not aware at that tune of the numerous old wells constructed by the Cham that still can be found scattered around Central Vietnam, and still in use today. I was a translator in the Army from 1965 to 1967 at Phu Bai (Thua Thien) and Tan Son Nhat AFB but returned only thrice in 1968, 1974 and late April 1975.
Earlier today, I watched another of your videos about visiting four apartment in Danang.

I live in Hoi An and there's so much more to see over the other side of the Thu Bon river.
Get out of town for a real Vietnamese experience.

Hi Chris. Thanks. I have been down there a few times. I have made a couple of videos from there.
