At-Man Unlimited Machining
United States
Registrace 5. 05. 2016
Hello everyone and welcome to At-Man Unlimited Machining channel. My name is Tim and I hope you join us as we explore using an older Vertical Machining Center that is accessible to the hobbyist or maker.
I started this channel to share the knowledge I acquired during the rebuild of my machine. Hopefully I can guide other makers and hobbyist in their pursuit for their own CNC mill.
My wife and I started At-Man Unlimited because we asked the question,”I wonder if there are other inventors out there like us?” Many large machine shops did not seem to want the one-or-two piece prototype work. If they did quote the job, the prices were very high. Our goal is to provide makers, hobbyists, inventors, and businesses a lower cost option for prototype and low quantity production machining.
The information contained within any At-Man Unlimited videos or correspondence are opinion only and not to be used as fact. All details should be referenced for entertainment only.

was looking at buying either a 1997 Fadal VMC15 or a newer 99 2016 Fadal, do you know of any differences?
incredible series, especially loved this one, thanks
Hello and thank you for your fantastic videos about Fadel If you still have the guts for it could you make a movie how to set up the fourth /4 axle on a vmc 15.
I dunno if At-Man is still around, or just decided to leave the youtubes and is potentially still doing all of the machining stuff without the video element... but holy crap, along my own journey into the world of cnc/machining at home, the At-Man has always been one of my go-to resources for the best information, even if the original video was made more than half a decade ago. Just wanted to say thanks for putting all of this content out when you did, its phenomenal, and undoubtedly helped myself and a lot of others in similar pursuits. Hope you're doing good, and I know its a long shot, but if there were somewhere that I could purchase one of those sweet "At-Man Unlimited" white polo shirts, I'd be all about that! Thanks again dude! You're a legend among (At) men.
This series was frickin amazing! Im going to build my own vcm with a welded frame filled with granite epoxy, going to aim for a frame weight of approx 400kgs (solid af for a bench cnc), this series will be such an epic guide! I want a highly precise machine, with a max of 0.005mm repeatability, i think its perfectly possible as long as the running gear i purchase is all brand name high quality (c1 ground double nut ball screws, nsk high rpm spindle and motor combined under 1micron runout, precision servos capable of sub micron precision) If i get mating surfaces machined in a shop, scrape em all in and go through the series ensuring everying is 100% perfect! Im pretty sure this machine would be capable of 0.005mm repeatability, which is what i need for watchmaking, prob could get away with 0.008mm, maybe even 0.01mm, because i dont make tiny watches and should be able to get off the ground with 0.01mm repeatability.. Please correct me if im utterly dreaming lol i am super capable, made an excavator from scratch, made half a pocket watch from scratch with no cnc, made a bunch of specialty precision tools to make the watch parts accurate enough to work, etc etc So its not like im some rqndom dude zero engineering experience just watching utube lol Hence why im confident AF i can get it done as long as i get the measuring equipment and running gear is all super high grade for cncs capable of making watches.. Sorry for the long msg, any honest feedback would be greatly appreciated from seasoned vets, constructive criticism 100% welcome!! 😂😂 Thanks!
Building your own machine is probably a great learning experience, for example when you are a ME student, but obviously it's extremely time and labor consuming. If your goal is making parts rather than machines the sensible way to go is buy a (used) machine and spend time fixing the issues it might have.
This series is absolute gold! Thanks for taking the time to help us out!
Super helpful. Thanks for sharing.
where was this video in 1994 when I needed it
Great video At-Man! Thanks!
Sorry for the basic question. What is the benefit of indexable end mills vs regular? Just that they are cheaper to replace the edges? It seems like the geometry would limit evacuation as well as regular, but perhaps I'm wrong.
there are many usb to rs 232 that work fine if you turn off fiffobuffer in windows and set the delay to 50ms then it runs straight through without error,,
Очень хорошее,качественное видео. Если сможете, сделайте видео заточки фрез так же подробно, с детализацией каждого элемента. Спасибо!
Brother can you upload a video about ,,, table top , t slot , A(X-Z) , B(Y-Z) , (X-Y) , madrel , swing , & sprit level make a play list . For xz & yz which side height block have to grind.

Well, that cleared that up. Thank you.
Pls what is the right type of lubrication oil used for CNC lathe machine
Thanks for your video s ,can you let us now what you are making whit your machine ,greetings joris
“Don’t buy cheap tooling” Unless you are just going to take it home and destroy it promptly in your new import machine….🙋♂️
Great videos.
Where is this man now?
I think it’s easier to make a cad drawing with the tolerance to figure out the numbers… 😅 The calculators are for inch anyway. 90% of the rest of the world needs metric.
sir by powder metal tooling (on 10:03) do you mean powder metallurgy manufactured tools?
Can I pay you for a phone consultation?
14:50 - Wow that is a clever way to skim out oil... I wonder if thats how they do it on oil spills in the sea... Could never think of such simple system without it being super advanced.
The tap follows the hole . If the hole isn’t straight the tap will break. As you drill the drill gets dull and the drill walks off center and the tap will brake .
Excellent presentation! Thank you!
I have tried the same thing for the Hass processor but it does not work, it does not show any error but does not even print any Mcode either. Does anyone know what's wrong?
Cool shirt, from my phone it says Ass-man
I have worked with Brian! He tuned our Mazak HCN500 to less than 0.0002" circularity on the barbell (haha) and laserd all th eaxes as well. He knows his S&*%#
Thank you so much for your videos, they probably took s long time to make. But i dont know if i would have ever got my machine running if it wasn't for you thanks again.
May I start by saying ..’ Nice taking care of your tooling My guess is your able to do more then most with that ole’ fadel
sir we have thread wash issue in rigid tapping when we press emergency of sudden power cut. What is the cause for this. Z axis drop observed 30-40 micron during pressing emergency.
Still have you subscribed. Hope you manage a comeback one of these days.
Hey ! This video is old but its worth a try Im trying to post a g code to my fadal vmc15xt and im not sure the program is correct I dont have a g54 line on my program but i do have a E0 and H0 Doest it correspond to work offset one ? If not? How can i correct it ? I really like the fusion 360 cam, i would like to keep working with it
Disculpe se me bloqueo el eje y tal ves se excedió la carrera y no me deja mover el eje me podría decir que hacer? Soy de puebla mexico
Ttry paper tape reader. I dont remember cassettes at all in the machining environment, too oily..
Awesome content Love it .
Where'd you go?
My fadal 6030 is put toll 1 back on the clip way too low it passes the clip and get stuck when we start a new program it can't pickup right. It jam most of the time.
Saludos excelentes videos.
Awesome video. Just started a new job and this will help me get adjusted much faster since I've never operated one of these mills before.
For me with this system meausure nothing if the table is parallel to guide but inclinate both... Because the dial will pass always only from one point from x+ to x-,so the dial will indicate always 0...while if the guide are parallel and the table is twisted is ok the system... If the table is all x or on x+ is normal that on the final the dial increase because the weight is all on one side....
Great video! Can you tell us how you setup notepad++ to highlight the post like that? Thank you!
Holy crap!!@ his hair grew back!!! And got darker
Thank you! Super helpful!
CAT Toolholders:As a major user of machine tools with automatic tool changers, Caterpillar Inc. championed the standardization of steep taper toolholders in North America. These toolholders utilize interchangeable pull studs with imperial threads, and feature a v-groove in the flange for the ATC arms to grip. This groove is why CAT toolholders are occasionally referred to as v-flange.
Tim, Hope you are good.. Missing your videos..
