More seriously, maybe I was being tricked by camera perspective, but it looked like you were doing the initial turning with a HSS bit with *negative* rake?
Slightly less seriously, what a missed opportunity for mill turning! I'm waiting for someone to show their setup for mill turning between centers ;-)
Way, way less seriously - using a torch and not even ONE fire department was called? Are you sure you're an engineer? :-) (I've worked with a couple gentlemen who completely reinforced that stereotype. The only appropriate response to seeing them with a lit torch would be "Run! Run, and don't look back!"

I am sure you have a multi colour selection of pocket protectors. Engineer high fashionista that you are.
Well, you need to match the pocket protector with the color ink your going to use that day. Just in case you have a blow out, the ink will just blend in with the pocket protector.
