I think the pledge of allegiance is only meaningful to _some_ people, but definitely not all of us. It was just something you were forced to do (I had to do it in Elementary school, but in Middle school and High school most of us didn't participate, and the teachers didn't care) that carried no weight in our minds at all because all you're "pledging" to do is to think a certain way about your country, which no one can prove either way, so to me and many others it was completely meaningless, making your description of the rest of the world's reaction to it hilariously overblown.

Toothpaste can absolutely be harmful. Consider that when you brush your teeth, you only put about a pea-sized portion of paste onto your brush and even then, you're supposed to spit it out once you're done brushing. It contains flouride and flouride is actually toxic if you ingest too much (note that the amount you would accidentially swallow when brushing is perfectly safe). That's one of the reasons why it actually works for dental hygiene. A oreo-package worth of toothpaste would certainly be enough to make you violently ill, though probably not enough to outright kill a person.
