Thank you man, you are gold! Thinking myself of getting a Berlingo/Partner II with the 1.6 16V 109 hp engine. Any good?

I've had a 2017 308 1.2 Puretech 130bhp since 2018. Only on 29,000 at the moment. None of those issues yet, touch wood. Had a Peugeot recall last year specifically about the cambelt. They checked and it was fine. I know that engine has had different types of belt in it's lifetime, some more trouble than others and I think they are now chain driven. I haven't had a dealer service for a couple of years due to lack of funds and a lot less miles travelled. I'm still under 10,000 since the dealer service but I think I'll be sorting that myself after watching this. I have an MOT in a couple of weeks. I may enquire about the cambelt too if it's around £500. It's been a cracking engine so far. Low down torque like a diesel but lot's of rev room too, although I rarely need that as it pulls well so low down.

wet belt crap. belts don't last any longer and take 8 odd hours to replace i.e. do not touch french shite!

4:25 Thats a real dealer talking there. "Mileagey (high mileage) ones, 60 or 70,000 miles"... I hate to break it to you but thats NOTHING. Dealers push this nonsense 100,000 mile limit/life which is utter crap designed to part you with your money only.

Think the petrol 1.2 engines are bad?Then avoid the 2.0 diesel belt in oil engines from ford, Peugeot and Mercedes if used for short runs they start to inject extra fuel to clean the DPF dilute and contaminate the oil and belts break at very low miles and with no warnings, so be warned, no pun intended.

Yanks say there's no substitute for cubic inches.....not wrong on that . Trying to squeeze more power out of tiny weeny engines is a no brainer .....

fords ecoboom isn't much better as soon as my new focus back in 2014 was out of its 3 year manufacturers warranty i got rid of it.... in those 3 years it burst everything plastic on the coolant system from the heater matrix, 2 degas hoses then the coolant bottle cracked and starved the engine of coolant causing it to overheat and warp meaning a new engine. too unreliable to keep after the warranty expired.... then heard about the issues of the wet belt.... what a disaster of poor engineering 😂

I have had 5 cars in a row with these 1.2 or 1.3 engines. Never ever had any issues at all. Never failed me once. 🤷‍♂️

This is the result of unrealistic emissions demands put on engine manufacturers to meet climate targets. All these new cars with crappy 3 cylinder engines with turbo chargers, they will never last like a 4 cylinder naturally aspirated.

i had a citroen cactus 110 ks 2019 petrol ..i had 70 000 km..i buying new car...doing sevice myself ..oil ineo first 0 30...every time filter bosch each 10 000 km...my car wos not to mechanic citroen service..the motor it is okey..timing belt it ok..i will change timig belt on 120 000 km..consumption is 5 liter petrol........don t egsist bad engine...egzist bad driver with no right service...

Not a fan of citrus vans they tend to leave a bitter taste in the mouth.

Who did design these engines the same people who designed the Ford engine in Range Rovers popping crankshafts a few years ago.

I've got a 2006 Nissan Micra Spirita. It starts, stops, has a heater and a radio. It has never let me down, but occasionally refuses to let me in. I have never worked out why people buy Peugeots, they are uglier than the Micra.

I have a 22 plate corsa ultimate. The manufacturer states you should be using 0 - 20w oil.

2021 1.2 Puretech 130bhp 25k kilometres, no problems at all and never uses oil between services, never had to top it up. 4 years manufacturers warranty with all servicing included, two for one price for tyres (Spain) car has been faultless. Been using and buying cars for half a century, never found one yet that didn´t have some kind of problem. The funny thing is that it has been the cars from so called ´reliable´manufactures that have given the most problems.

Na the euro 6 are a nightmare with ad blue issues euro 5 is where it's at 👍

Interesting, thanks, I didn't realise we could check our belt so easily. The belt issue is annoying, but our dealer has already warned us to do it early. Piston ring issues in my experience are usually due to hard use of a cold engine, I always make sure to warm my engines before driving hard. We are on our second Cactus and so far neither has needed any top ups between annual services at about 8000 intervals.

Wet belts in lots of reliable engines just saying. Vw 2.0 tdi cktb done over half million clogged inlet manifold caused and egr cooler now in the green landfill lol. Continental wet belt still in good condition. 👍

We have 2015 dispatch vans at work, they are abused but they suffer with side loading door lock issues and gear linkages cease up so you need 2 arms to change gear. The vivaros older 2.0l ones are better, all on high mileage and seem to handle the weight better. The managers all have berlingo and they all drive like new as they dont do much miles or get abused.

Like most domestic white goods,they're made to last a warranty period and thats it......Not just Stellantis/PSA products that do this unfortunately.People mock JLR products but still buy the things on repeat,so other manufacturers seem to be adopting a similar business plan.......

They are built from the Renault parts bin the old 1.5dci is a good reliable motor.

They are reliable. Just put a belt on . Clean out the strainer. All good. Loads of othere marks use loads of oil. Loads of other marks have wet belt issues .

Everyone's first mistake was buying a modern French car, you just don't this. If your priority is reliability then you buy something Japanese, preferably a Honda or a Toyota (although even Honda suffered oil dilution trying to keep up with regulations) as @simonh870 pointed out, this is the real reason we are suffering with poor products.

Interesting video, Peugeot nevertheless has made excellent engines that run perfectly after 20 plus years with no issues. This on the contrary of more celebrated car manufacturers. Example my Peugeot 307 2004 model km 432,000, done normal services and replaced one clutch. Still does not uses oil between changes. I am therefore extremely happy with Peugeot.

I change the wet belt every Saturday no matter if it's needed or not

I had a Peugeot 308 1.2 pure tech bought it at 20.000 miles. At 40.000 it started to shudder and the engine management light came on. Turned out wet belt was knackered and engine was starved of oil. Write off. Depite it always being maintenaned as suggested. Please do yourself a favour and stay away from any engine with a wetbelt in it.

Build small engines to ‘save’ the environment and end up doing the reverse with all the wastage and burning oil.

Had the belt changed in my 66 plate 2008 March last year in main dealer under warranty. Brake pump was also changed at the same time at no cost for the work on either as the engine qualified under the Peugeot recall. The actual cambelt material has been modified several times since 2016. I do have a problem with acceleration stutter which may be down to fuel. Also the front struts are prone to rattling and require replacing before they give up altogether, which may be sudden or hold out for some time once the rattle sets in (sounds like drop link fail) OS gave up last August. NS has just started and a replacement is currently awaiting delivery, That said its still fun to drive however these issues should not be manifesting at just under 60K miles
