10-20 years ago 16 years old for a car was considered nearly too old to even bother selling! They were often about £400 I can't believe the prices these days!
I love Ford KA’s had one for fifteen year great car
Hi Lee. Surprisingly high prices these days compared to years ago when old cars were sub £500. Dave Birmingham
Not that long ago 2017 🙁
Yes all seems to have changed so much over the last 4 years.
Anything with an engine, running and driving with a bit of MOT is worth a grand in 2024
My daughter had a black one for 5 years 08 plate, the engines are good drive well for a small car, when we got it underneath was fine, when we had to scrap it 3 years ago.Never known a car to rust so quickly and i had a few, the sills and under the boot were the worst, iv met a few people had the same thing. When she got rid the road tax was over £180 then crazy for a 1300 cc, she now has a citron C1 £20 tax much better on petrol much better bodywork, on the open road not as fast, but if mileage is local better car.
Ford gave it a lick and a promise of primer underneath which is why they rust for fun.
I think that's the third one I have seen on the channel now and all of them have had incredibly low mileage for their age. Not sure what demographic originally bought these but low miles tends to indicate an older person who just poodles to the shops and back and looks after them really well.
These are a very sharp drive, excellent steering and handling and a sure fire future classic. Terrible interior plastics but it was always meant to be a budget car. A sure fire classic 💯
agree with that split pin
Yup, they were just about as basic as it gets. But that is what they were intended to be as you say. Really good little town car with no frills and cheap as chips.
Been saying this for years, it’s a future classic. The Ka had radical styling inside & out, basic to luxury versions, plus sport and convertibles, so similar to original Mini. But, car market and taxation has changed so much I’m not sure if anything cheap will become a classic.
Sold more of these than i can remember, loved buyin them with the faded bumbers get them lookin smart an would always make a nice wage on them
Had a 2000 Ka years ago and it was an awesome little rig to hammer about in.
Sadly rusted horrendously and was part exed due to this. Tip of the A pillar went, sills and a door, too. This was a well cared for car, nice and bright but it was like inbuilt obsolescence on the part of Ford with how quickly it went
There’s also a single make race series for them. All the signs are there for future classic status. Useable, quirky, used to be everywhere, smile factor. I’m in the classic car trade and gave £1000 for the 17,000 mile example which my student son loves. And he’s 6’3”.
We did have a KA in the family that had underbody rust, took it to a small garage to see about having the work done, there was already one on the ramp same problem, he showed me it started off a small hole and just went on, he said when you start you never know where you're going to finish, so we scrapped it.
Great little car wife had one great on snow
Nice lacquer peel!
Love watching you now brilliant 💪
Great little car
Look at the original Puma prices now for a decent one if you can find one! I had a mint 1998 1.7 puma in metallic blue which i bought from the original owner who had pampered it to death, 48K genuine miles and not a spec of rust top to bottom, I sold it in 2011 for like £1600, I wish i had mothballed it!
I bet!
1.7 would be the one to have now, they also did a 1.4 which was more popular to sell in the day.
Hiya Lee. Jesus Book £200 lol. Wow its got Great Money. Great Sellers, i personally would love too drive it lol 😅🇨🇮
Apart from the rot on these, they are terrific fun little cars imo. When Ford were worth their badge
I like the short videos.
a short video’s a good video 👍
Nice one Lee 🙂🎥🔧✌️
Thanks 👍
The reg number was worth that.
Interesting Reg Plate
😁😁👍👍
I love fords but they do turn into fine duct
Good little cars regarding engine and gearbox but you must treat the underneath otherwise you will soon end up doing a fred flintstone impersonation, ...lol.
My wife had a ka exactly like that 57 plate 59k on it 7 yrs ago she was given £350 on a trade in and it was very clean 😢
Spray a few cans of Lanoguard underneath to slow down any rust! 👍
Trouble is they rusted from the inside out, and from every nook and cranny, even inside the windscreen pillars.
nice one Li. from that angle in that red it looks so similar to the later FIAT 500 based KA
I think they were built on the same chassis and the parts are similar.
@@peteiswriteingnow the gear change cable ends I sell on eBay certainly are
👌👌
Where (if anywhere) do you advertise your cars for sale or is it just a case of looking on the pitch? Apologies if it's in one of yer videos and I've missed it.😁
I thought it would make a bag of sand (A grand for anyone north of the Watford Gap) 😀 It would have made over a grand in my auction, dan souf.
I had one the other week, 20k phone off the hook at 1295, I've just put a 13 plate up with 31k on, probably won't be as popular as it's 3 and a half
🙌
1st 🥇
A young woman was driving past my house in one and it snapped in half. Fortunately she was ok and so was her daughter who was in the back. As Lee said watch for corrosion.
Had one from nearly new as a second car. Great little characterful car, much better in that respect than the Fiat 500 based version which followed. Big but..., after five or six years, with no outward signs of rust, was shocked to find the inner sills rotted right through from the inside. Last time I'd seen that was on something from the seventies. I'd say buying one without a proper check is a big risk.
Good buy for that money. Car dealer near me would have that up for £2795 once paintwork was done.
wow!
People shifting to cheap motoring. This will happen more & more. The big qunners will be those small cats falling under low tax bracket. Surprised this went through at a premium given the annual tax woukd be high. The car market always surprises us.
the 9 inch '' smaller than pizza' wheels are funny
Christ I wish I kept hold of my W Reg KA.... Although it was disintegrating by the minute 😅
I would of thought that Ka would of fetched £1,450… once painted with a full history, and I would image, it’s also a one owner car?
Apart from the rear quarter it looked stunning with original paint on all the rest of the panels, etc. I reckon it would retail for £3.5k to the right buyer. You’d would probably be able to sell it as if it’s in Grade 2 condition
about £300 private or £1000 trade, not yet a classic and watch out for rust making it worthless in a couple of years
With 19k on it, no book value is ever going to be accurate, it's always going to come down to who is there on the day and who has eyeballed it at home online. That's surely 1k+ as a private sale all day long.
In harder times I sold a mobile phone and purchased a 02 kA with the funds, had that ka 3 years no issues
👍👍
I'm surprised you didn't buy that. Good profit in that.
Got one also low mileage to work on so took a pass on this one.
We have a 30,000 mile loaded 1997/P in storage til April at which time I will Lanoguard the life out of it for the show season. It shares it's heated winter storage with two RS500 Cosworths bless it :-)
I was thinking 1k 😮😮😮
Bargain of the year whoever got that is very lucky not history isn't bad at all
I thought the passenger rear quarter looked a different colour to the door, but it could have been the light. Hope whoever brought it looks after it.
hahahahahah brought it ???????????????????????????? where did they bring it from ????/ (BOUGHT)
@josephberrie9550 Yeah, someone brought it at auction
problem is aswell belt will need replacing as they past the limit age of belt
These were chain driven bud not belt, cannot recall ever coming across one needing a chain replacing they were rock solid on that front
Get it undersealed lol.....surmising there is anything left to underseal underneath 😅
This is madness! I don't care how little mileage it's done, they are still rust buckets and like many other people have said in the comments, underneath might look not too bad but the fact is you can't be totally sure how good it is until you start stripping it. What happened to that old thing of if a car has a common problem which is expensive to fix the prices will stay low because people don't want to buy them?
That seems to be truly gone these days. As a customer I wouldn't buy a Ka for more than £500, but considering what this sold for, this will probably be retailing somewhere for £1,995. It won't last more than a couple years at best, so then you've thrown £2k in the bin or spend another £2k to keep it on the road. Absolute madness this is. Unsustainable madness.
By the way, nothing against the Ka, I had one and loved it!! But when the MOT was due, I sold it to trade and guess what happened that same year when they tried to MOT it? That's right, failed on rust, condemned, crushed.
I'd heard that Ford intended to bring out a super injection version of the KA. However, they decided not to because KA Si wouldn't look good as a logo.
😂😂
A Snickers bar ?
It only had 20000 miles.? So it's basically new. I'm surprised it didn't go for more
Rust box
Hi Lee, do you know any companies that will bid at an auction for private people for a fee? I’m looking to spend about £40k. Cheers
Google is your friend - or Facebook. One popped up the other day offering exactly this service but I can't remember the name. Looked ok from the website (quick look) but do your due diligence of course! Good luck.
@@ronnie298 thanks mate
Just an idea that I thought you could do on YT - could you add a channel logo in the corner so that people know your content, then you wouldn't need the big banners?
Tried it, they just blur it out
@@carukchannel fair enough, that sucks people will do anything to steal your work
Hardly see any of the mk1 Ka these days
Agree pre 2003 engine versions are getting really rare now. to be fair the later engine was alot better
It's a shame when a low mileage car has to be scrapped because of the old tin worm, but that's the way it is with certain cars,so protecting the underneath as much as possible is a must.
Lee it's true what they say a car is only worth what someone will pay for it . That was a very clean example and with that milage it will be a great car for someone. I have always owned fords won't touch anything else currently driving 2008 c max (titanium) . I always underseal any ford as soon as I get it home for extra protection as the old tin worm is fords biggest drawback . I had the c max down for it's MOT last week she passed with an advisory for a slightly noisy front wheel bearing which and bad for such an old car with 140.000 miles on the clock .
isn't it basically an old Kent engine there's in the 1st gen KA?
P to 52 plate had an Endura-E engine which in turn was an updated HCS from the MK3 Fiesta, which in turn was an updated Valencia engine from the MK1 and 2 which in turn again was a Kent engine, much modified for front wheel drive application. Almost no commonality between them but there is a direct lineage. After 52 plate they had a Brazilian 1.3 litre engine in line with the then newly released MK5 Fiesta. The only other engine I can think of which was as long running was the old Fiat FIRE engines.
Yes the later ka based on the fiat 500 shared the fire engine.
@@carukchannel and that's more and less an old Uno engine
That 'fella' in his girlfriends / mums yoga pants constantly strutting in front of the camera like a pratt is really annoying.
HaHa i had to laugh and agree ,he really Parades himself like some big king Pin...Nightmare
I have yet to see "Yoga pants man" buy anything at the auction, I have thought the same about that fella & a good description.
800 9idk
close never heard gabble man
Are private buyers allowed here. Be great to buy a cheap polo
£2K RETAIL?
Easily flip that for £1500 if you dont mind sitting on it.
great car but they rot badly
they do indeed
So outdated now and they were cheaply made when new. Can’t believe they are still worth anything
I agree, why someone would pay good money for one of these nowadays is beyond me. I bought an 06 years ago for £500 with 40k and couldn't believe how badly rotted it was. The engine and box were only thing intact tbh dreadful car
Well over priced I agree £200 and I would feel bad paying that for it 😂😂
i dont think i could fit in it.
They have masses of front legroom, I’m 6ft4 and 22 stone, I’ve driven them comfortably, obviously rear legroom is shite though
i would never touch one they girly cars
Cars are too expensive
