I'm slowly learning how to redefine my relationship with money and draw the line on how I value spending the money I earn. It's a tricky balance, but I think the key for me is listening to my inner self and not letting my perceived notion of what the outside world is telling me to do dictate how I use my money. Agreed about horse bedding pellets. I add water and some urine to it to hydrate it in a 5 gallon bucket. I add the urine to add Nitrogen to the very carbon bedding. I want to start the composting abilities.

    • @TinyHouseVentures
      @TinyHouseVentures Před 4 dny

      That’s a great point. It’s always a struggle to get the composting started after changing it. It also helps to not fully clean out 100% of the compost to help the new batch start. Thanks for your input!

    • @bdmenne
      @bdmenne Před 4 dny

      @@TinyHouseVentures sure. I was curious if horse bedding would ever compost because it’s so devoid of life (it seems). Especially with your Nature Head composter which I’m interested for Campervanning myself. You know, my best luck I’ve ever had with beginning the composting process was using dried soil, or crumbly composted soil. Consider giving that a try. If you are boondocking you already have access to loads of living soil, it’s free and you will be jolly to see how quickly it turns to soil. Ofc I’m speaking from imagination and only experience with using a low tech bucket toilet. But if it started with my static operation, I could only imagine it would work like gangbusters for you. Lol. That coconut coir definitely didn’t trap in the odors like bedding and soil does. ✌🏼

      Yeah, it’s part of our instant hot water Joolca system. If you need to fill more than 15 gallons, then I don’t recommend using it like that. It’s intended to pull water from a stream for taking a shower directly, so its flow rate is really low. Took us 2.5 hrs to fill 100 gallons. The best product I’ve seen out there for filling water into your tank from a stream is from Guzzle H2O. Wow very nice build and going from 1400w to 2700w of solar, crazy!! (in a good way). Anyway wanted to ask if you could share some of the rationale for going with a split ac unit. I like the idea. Just would like to know more like this is way more than what you would need (I think) and why not go with the traditional roof ac (aside from the fact that you have already spent the real estate on solar).

    • @TinyHouseVentures
      @TinyHouseVentures Před 11 dny

      So our trailer came with a roof mounted AC and the first thing I did was remove it and sold it. It pulls way too much power for the amount of cooling it provides and it is super loud. It would pull between 1800-1500 watts when cooling. Our mini split pulls a max of 1200 watts and then settles down to ~300 once it reaches temperature. The mini split is fairly cheap too.

    You wouldn’t need so much water if you didn’t use a reverse osmosis filter. That kills water and the filter rejects so much.

    • @TinyHouseVentures
      @TinyHouseVentures Před 13 dny

      Not really honestly. It’s a 3:1 RO system, so one liter discarded for every 3 liter filtered. Our largest water usage came from doing dishes (we cook 100% of our meals and don’t use plastic/paper) and taking showers. 100 gallons lasts us about 3.5-4 weeks. Even though we move spots every 2 weeks, we don’t always go back into a place that has water available for us to fill, so the extra capacity is very helpful.

  • @peteowens3033
    @peteowens3033 Před 17 dny

    Thanks for the video. I am just starting the process. Having the same RV verses cargo trailer questions and concerns. I have decided, if I go with a cargo trailer, it will be a 7' wide version with inset fenders (narrow track is the industry term) with tandem 6' torsion axles because I want the trailer to track not much more than my 5' wide cargo trailer does now which is just a bit more than my 2018 Silverado that I tow with. My cargo trailer now is just too small at 5x8 plus V-nose to convert including a full bath so I am looking @ 7x16 cargo trailers at present. I want the tandem axles because I only want a full bath up front and the rest for a living area/toy hauler use. Maybe one counter top for a microwave and small sink but the rest can be modular as needed and easily removable. AC is a must too but likely only operable when connected to shore power. Not sure I want to deal with a generator setup and I am guessing a large enough solar / lithium battery set up to run AC all night would be expensive. Please tell me if I am wrong. ;-)

    • @TinyHouseVentures
      @TinyHouseVentures Před 17 dny

      I spent around $10k on our entire solar setup: rack, panels, wiring, inverter/mppt, batteries, and then a mini split AC. I still use a backup generator if I need to run the AC late into the night.

    09:11 After we designed our photovoltaic array for our ExpeditionVehicle, we took our specifications to MAC'S BATTERIES AND SOLAR in Eugene, Oregon. . We have a 24v system. MAC'S built our bank in a couple-three days. We are equivalent to sixteen (16) BattleBorn 100ah... ... for us$2,500 instead of sixteen grand.

    08:25 How about 'narration over B-roll' instead of a stationary camera on a stationary spokes-model. Show instead of tell?

    I fabricated our toy-hauler on a commercial chassis. 7'/2.1m x 16'/4.6m, with a Tuck-a-Way lift-gate. We used it several years as a fifth-wheel, but realized significant binding and bounce on rough logger tracks to remote mountain lakes and across deserts to isolated Baja beaches. . I torched off that hitch combo, and fabricated a goose-neck hitch combo. We immediately noticed less bounce and less binding. . All tolled, our investment in the entire trailer is less than us$1,500. . Of course, we could simplify by purchasing retail, and dump tens of thousands in a declining 'asset'.

    03:55 With a factory RecreateVehicle, you get deluxe staples into particle-board. You get impressive decals. You get innovative flexi-steel frames. . And you get to camp in the repair-shop parking-lot while they fiddle with factory-installed warranty 'issues'.

    I'm so glad you said that. I never drink city water. I wont even drink water at a restaurant and I say no to ice.

      Yeah it’s a sad reality unfortunately. I’ve been all over the US now and have only found 3 places where the city water needs no filtration or further purification. Those locations: Front range outside of Boulder CO, Greenville SC, and Lake George NY.

      Yep, that or regular ole sawdust. All this stuff out there about using coconut coir is overhyped. That stuff is costly, needs water added to it, and runs the risk of coming with bugs in it. None of that is conducive to off-grid or RV living.

    they make a four-season door/wall that is moveable for the ramp area, I made my own, and it works great under $300.00. There are railings to go around the ramp, I added an inflatable tent 8'x8'x7' tall from Canada for $250 to enclose the ramp. On the side we added my own DIY 270-degree batwing swing-out awning with snap-in side walls all for under $800.00. I use E-TRACK on walls, in & out as well as the ceiling inside, tons of optional attachments hooks, eyes, use with HAMMOCKS, shelves, duffle bags, storage boxes, tables, and cargo nets from harbor freight Finally, I made heavy-duty storage slides cheap but better, using UNISTRUT, need 4 sections of rails with standoffs/brackets , a dozen rollers, on 1/2'' or 3/4' plywood, mount 2 rails to the floor on brackets to level, the other two rails mount under plywood boxes or trays 24-36'' wide, as tall and deep as you want, do this multiple times. two three levels high with tubs and totes, I have them 6' deep and they pull out to easy reach the back boxes. I have three, one that is under a raised area and two that are behind a wall and stacked two high with an open area on the top section . my total cost has under 1200,00, for the platform, the wall, and the wood, the unistrut, and 30+ totes. It looks like 3 large cabinet DRAWERS, except they are 6 feet long, 24 and 30'' wide and 3 feet tall each. they are less than half used.
