Legally living FULL-TIME in our Cargo Trailer Conversion

- Just because people DO live in a cargo trailer, van, or RV full-time it doesn't mean that you actually ARE legally. Make sure to take the proper steps to secure a valid address in a state that recognizes you are living full-time in your rig. Only a few states do this and it was not a straight forward process for us. So, if you are thinking about traveling full-time or currently are on the road full-time we hope this helps simplify the process.

I use my grandparents address and I’m making buying a cheap road access property a priority. The best tip I have for someone going nomad on the road full time is the buddy system for your vehicles and your rig. I have a spare truck with a camper on it parked and ready to go for whenever my main rig goes down. I also keep a few grand held back for maintenance and repairs. The most important thing in your life now is your vehicles and your rigs. Don’t underestimate life 🤙🚛🇨🇦
Yeah, that’s why we went with a new truck over used. I’ve seen too many nomads get stranded or end up with high repair bills on used vehicles. But, ultimately you need to do what you can afford. Don’t go into debt for this lifestyle.

My wife and I domicile in SD.. we've been using America's Mailbox for the past 3 years with no problems.. great people!! Cheaper insurance, no income tax, no personal property (ie. cars, trucks or rv), no investment tax, no vehicle inspections!!
Yep, my uncle’s ranch is in SD and they love it there for all of those reasons. Didn’t know about the no vehicle inspections. That’s an awesome benefit for those of us not traveling through the state regularly.

We used America's Choice in SD previously. Our biggest problem was getting out. Once finalized, you cannot have your mail forwarded by the post office. And America's Choice will simply throw out any mail that they receive after you exit.
That’s crappy of them. How long did it take to start getting mail somewhere else?
So I have a new conversion myself … having trouble getting insurance and was curious if you found company… I’m only covered when hooked up to truck but want to be completely covered
That is exactly how we were covered when we were Massachusetts residents. Just how that state did insurance for trailers. In Florida they handle it differently and if you have a build insurance companies want pictures and then will insure as a travel trailer RV. So, it’s state dependent. We went with State Farm, but other insurance companies were willing to insure use too. If your state doesn’t do it that way, then I recommend getting the trailer RV certified and insuring it as an RV. I don’t know all the details of that process as we didn’t have to go that route thankfully.
Good info, Can you let me know if Florida has yearly vehicle emissions testing and vehicle safety inspections yearly? thanks
In general, Florida does not require either. From my understanding, the only time it is required to be inspected is if you purchase a used vehicle in Florida or if you buy a vehicle from out of state when you are a resident.

Recent video from Adventure Van Man: he said he’s probably going to switch his residence status from South Dakota to Nevada because the health care program is cheaper in Nevada. Something to think about…..
