How we move our Converted CARGO TRAILER

- It's moving day for us! Come along as we show you how we pack everything us, hitch-up, and hit the road.
We are moving on from the Front Range as a brief pitstop in Denver to get a leaky window fixed and do some shopping to resupply for our next couple weeks off-grid further into the Colorado mountains.
It's never easy packing up a Tiny House. Especially one that isn't manufactured to be a quick mover. BUT, we've done it a few times now and are starting to form systems that shorten the process, keeps everything secure, and gets us moving in no time...well almost no time.

Thanks! Some days we're a bit too self critical of the set-up....we see all the imperfections...but then you sit down with a cup of coffee and really enjoy the space you've made for yourself.

I got the term negotiator for the rubber mallet from my Uncle when we were "convincing" wood beams to go where we wanted them 😆.
How are those tires on pave roads?
Handles great. Haven't noticed any increase noise or increase drag from the aggressive tread. For reference, we get around 14-15 MPG from the truck and a full bed when not towing. And around 10-12 MPG when towing (I suspect the trailer weighs around 8-9k lbs).
@Tiny House Ventures the trailer weighs 8 to 9k wow! what exactly do you guys carry? It looks like one of those Colorado off road trailers don't they ship at around 3k, I just did a downpayment on a 8.5x22. I went with the tandem 7000 lb spread torsion axles down 5 degrees for a bit of extra hight. Doing the full bathroom and kitchen with a small sleepy area. I was not expecting it to exceed 5K maybe 6.
My solar setup is around 400 pounds most of that weight is lifepo.
But now I'm concerned as I planned on pulling with my X5 m50d
@@michaelkaine345 Our 7x18 from Colorado Trailers ships at 4,800 lbs. It's all steel, so they are heavy. It's not that we carry anything super heavy, but we live in this full-time and can stay off-grid with no in town trips comfortably for 2-3 weeks. All those things add up, but I have not weighed it yet. The real kicker though is how tall the trailer is with the torsion axles (19 inch ground clearance and 7ft interior height). Did you purchase an all aluminum frame? I recommend reaching out to your dealer to ask about their tow vehicle recommendations. Tow capacity of a vehicle is one thing, but a tall 8.5ft wide trailer also has a lot of drag....and then stopping the whole thing is a whole another consideration. We almost went with a F150. It CAN tow this trailer, but what about stopping? The F250s have larger breaks and engine break going downhill. Just some food for thought.
@Tiny House Ventures I was very worried about this and considered upgrading in my truck last summer in preparation for the trailer, but I opted to rent a 8.5x24 told it around for a few months most of the time with my 3 Series in the back as I figured that should weigh more than a few walls and cabinets. The X5 pulled and stopped without issue and did a whole lot better when I purchased an Andersen hitch and a Curt brake controller.
Keep in mind my X5 with options way almost 6,000 lb with a 3L diesel with a tow capacity of 7500lbs stock, I have the tow package that comes with air suspension and is I believe 196 inch long compared to the trailer 264inch. The trailer tested was a stock rock-solid trailer, Steel weighing 3500 lb with I believe 6 ft 6 in of height.
The trailer I ordered is a Steel 8.5x22 trailer and weighs 3800 lb with 7K spread Torsion axles 10 degrees down for a bit more height. It's also has 8ft interior hight and is made out of that new polycor material.
I expect that the x5 will tow without issue but if not I will consider a new truck. The X5 does appear very small and for the most part that was my worry, but after the test I also added a full-scale model of the x5 to the layout I created in rhino of the trailer I ordered. my only thought was how did I manage to fit a bathroom sleeping area and kitchen into something not much bigger than my truck
@@michaelkaine345 that’s awesome that you did all that testing. And as far as space goes, you’d be surprised what you can do with a smaller trailer when there is nothing in it from the start. That’s why we love cargo trailers so much over pre-built RVs. You know your use case better than anyone else though. When you get the trailer let us know how it tows before and after your build.
