Learn everything necessary to learn Character Animation utilizing Autodesk Maya taught by a AAA game professional with university level accredited instruction!     Everyone is missing the point here.. everyone here like 99% aren't real hired by a big company.. the most of u can only do simple things and comparing this with a major tool like Maya because blender is free doesn't mean it is good. For example if i want to build a system like 2012 were things need to break apart i can do that very fast in Maya in Blender u can't I tried even a conjuring effect with cloth in Blender it sucks it crashes everytime.. Maya is stronger even with mel scripting.. and don't say u can sculpt I use zbrush much better then Blender so why do we need Blender ?

    I was under the impression that studios use maya because 1) They have already developed a pipeline/workflow for maya, changing to blender will need lot of work 2) To save TAX because you need to buy maya for each pc and its a buisness expense that can be deducted

      Works up until Maya 2022 with Python 2, versions after use Python 3, which means you would need to use another tool such as Advanced Skeleton which we also provide instruction for in our course offerings 👍

    If after a few years, Blender's capabilities are equal to Maya's capabilities!! and then if if if again after a few more years, it can become much more advanced than Maya!!! and Maya hasn't improved during this time!!!! then maybe I'll use Blender.       They already support meta human, so if you rig your character in Advanced Skeleton following our video and course lectures, you can easily export the mocap animation to the rigged meta human.

      Retargeting should not be necessary if it's done correctly, it will all import directly into Maya. Remember that metahuman Advanced Skeleton rigs need to receive animation that is from a UE5 based skeleton. So be sure that your metahuman rigged with Advanced Skeleton is following the UE5 template. We cover this process in our Advanced Skeleton course and video lectures.

Yes, hopefully there will be more future options from Autodesk, but for now this seems to be the best workflow to get this "Spider-Verse" sketch line type look visually for projects. We hope you enjoy the video! Our team and instructors spent several months creating every asset for the project from scratch and documenting the entire process, it's definitely our biggest effort to date.

I can't filter upper/lower body because of it.

      As long as your character is loaded in the scene, you should be able to select your mesh in the outliner or in the scene, and then you can add that selected mesh to a layer to turn it on and off if you prefer to animate that way. Be sure that your mesh layers are enabled to be selectable by clicking off the boxes if they are turned on.

    I don't know dude, its like saying the best songs in the world are written with a guitar. Most musicians play guitar and piano, so it really is no surprise that good comps coming out of these instruments. Same with animation, its not the Maya that makes good animations, it's the artist. Also I want to remind you that 10 years ago the art done with blender was pretty bad (I was there), when it got popularity and more professionals started to use it now it has the best looking work in the community. When you see a good 3D model you know it came from either blender or zbrush. A tool is just a tool guys, and limitations only apply if you have skills to go beyond what is possible with the tools in hand.

    WTF rig is not free?? how greedy are you? why in the god's name are you using a tool which is no longer used by lastest version of unreal engine??

      Many students get confused about this, Unreal ART tools still work in all versions of Unreal Engine, it's not a tool for Unreal, but rather a tool for Autodesk Maya, however the tool only works on Python 2 which was removed in Maya 2023 and later versions. If you still work in Maya 2022 or earlier, all animation created will work perfectly fine in every single version of Unreal Engine. We also updated all of our courses with Advanced Skeleton in case any students want to work in Maya 2023 or later using Python 3, so everything is fully supported and updated in our courses. All of our courses come with a rigged Mannequin for ART tools and Advanced Skeleton. The custom mesh you might be referring to is created in our ART tools course, to show how to rig a custom mesh, and we continue using that custom rig so that students can see the value and the workflow for custom rigging characters of their own. The rigs included use all the same controllers taught in the course and great animations created with those included rigs will still get you jobs, and the animations created can be exported to any mesh in Unreal and retargeted for game or cinematic production. Hopefully that helps clarify some of your questions.
