Thanks for the great instructional video! It's a shame that the ArtTools are not supported/updated since Unreal 4.

It's supported in Unreal 5, it is a Maya plugin that is limited to Python 2. Yes it is a shame that it will not be updated for Python 3 support in Maya, but it definitely can be used with Unreal 5!

crap, i've been so confused, i bought your complete 3d animation course for beginners awhile back and and just now getting around to learning it, i was so confused with the opening few episodes about the ART tools because the guy didn't really tell us what exactly was going on or what the ART tools were exactly, but after some googling i understand that you wanted us to install it so that we can have some unreal compatibility, which is correct since i am wanting to use maya with unreal.
the issue is that i'm using maya 2024, so after reading comments on your other video about the setup, i learned that the other thing was discontinued and the only way to use it was if i were to go back to maya 2022, right? well, after looking at your other videos, advanced skeleton is also an alternative right? i just googled and downloaded advanced skeleton, but the important thing, is that will i be able to even do this course if i'm not able to utilize ART tools ? can i still follow along and understand if i'm using advanced skeleton or anything?

Thanks for your comment and learning with us! Yes ART tools is simply just a way to rig and animate your character as a free option, which unfortunately came to an end with Maya discontinuing Python 2 support after 2022. One alternative solution is Advanced Skeleton which supports Python 3. You can definitely use all of our animation courses with any rig of your choosing including Advanced Skeleton.
The courses are designed to work with any rig as the 3D animation principles are applicable to any 3D character you animate. This video helps show you that it isn't the technicalities of the rig that makes great animation, or that you have to stick with ART rigged mannequins to follow along with our animation courses. We show you how to set up your character for IK and FK so that you can follow along just as if you were using an ART tools rig.
We simply wanted to provide our students with alternative supported tools to animate the Unreal Mannequin in various versions of Maya depending on the needs for your production or project!
Hopefully that helps clear up any confusion you might have had about the differences in the tools when it comes to animating characters with our video instruction.

thank you so much for the quick reply, seriously cause i'm working on things now so i needed to know haha, but i understand! i was worried that the ART thing was gonna be something we'd have to follow along closely like on other tutorials, but i'm glad it's still easy to understand...if you understand rigging tools haha. i guess i should learn how advanced skeleton is first then.. but i was also confused where to find the character rig that the first few videos used, of your character guy with the blue shirt, are we supposed to have him to use ?
i am looking to make animations for unreal, like cutscenes and cinematics for my game project, so learning this course in maya would help right..? sorry just kinda new to things and still trying to understand how some apps operate, for awhile i was thinking we animated in unreal instead, but i just wanted to make sure learning to animate in maya would help even though i'll be using unreal @@ClassCreatives

also, i'm on the video where you're importing reference vids and yeah when i import the reference vids i just get a red error thing on the bottom, did you have to change any settings to allow for it?! am i supposed to install a codec?!@@ClassCreatives

well, i've figured out a horrible workaround, i have to import into premiere pro, and then export as an image sequence.....so i have hundreds of png images, then i'm able to import that into maya. Man, maya being a PITA is why so many people use other apps haha. @@ClassCreatives

ART and AS are simply ways to animate the Unreal Mannequin in Maya to create custom animations, or modify existing animations that you purchase/download from the Unreal Marketplace. We use these tools since they allow creators to animate in Maya and bring them into Unreal just as working professionals do to create AAA games, movies and TV shows.
All of our animation courses can be followed along with either ART or AS based rigs. Even if you have a custom rig that you download, the animation portions can be used to learn how to create high quality 3D animations with video reference, and graph editor work.
Be sure to check out the FAQ pdf included in our courses as most of your questions are addressed there including details about video reference image planes in Autdoesk Maya. Maya is limited to the codecs on your personal machine. So if you do not have the correct codec of your video reference source material it will not work in Maya. Workarounds (outlined in our FAQ PDF) are as you stated image sequences (requires no codecs) or compatible videos for your machine such as AVI (non compressed), MP4, MOV, etc. It's dependent on your personal machine's limitations.
