Funny how a milestone can kinda hurt. These are the first two cows that we have ever sent off to the butchers. They are the ones you see in our opening video back over two years ago. They are completing their purpose and providing my family with clean healthy food. It is still hard to do though. We spent today pulling apart and rebuilding a new shed that we erected the framing of last week and the wind blew into a pile last night. Hopefully adding the roof and cladding will help make it stronger! Great to see the flower garden doing so well

    • @FlannelFarms
      @FlannelFarms Před 4 dny

      I'd max it at 12. In terms of resting space, they only need a foot and a half sq or so.

  • @leneaves5
    @leneaves5 Před 5 dny

    I didn't think you should add the cost of the trailer & fencing. They are not a 1 use item. You will use them multiple times & possible for other things besides beef. They will be around for years to come.

    • @FlannelFarms
      @FlannelFarms Před 5 dny

      You're right, however I could not have done the cows without putting those in, so it is a cost, however that won't count next time. That's why I did it both ways.

    Wow, that's a lot of meat! I'm glad you raised the cows mostly on grass. Wow, Angus cattle. I like how you included all the things you needed to raise the two cows! That meat looks great! We've only raised pigs so you are way ahead of us! Great job Flannel family! Have a wonderful July 4th!

    What do you do with those animals? Do you just feed them and keep them around? Are they ALL food you intend to eat at some point?

    • @FlannelFarms
      @FlannelFarms Před 8 dny

      The pigs are for food only. We have a couple different flocks of chickens. One flock is free range except for at night, those are for eggs. The bird you see here is in our totally free range flock, they roost in the trees at night. They are for fertilizing the ground and eating bugs. When we end up with too many roosters we eat those.

      Since they aren't Cornish Cross, they are older when harvested, which makes them a bit tougher, but that is true of the hens as well. The flavor is good though. We usually crock pot them.
