- If you are on the fence about getting a chicken plucker, maybe this video will help you make up your mind. You don't have to want to butcher chickens for a living to justify the expense. We will also show you an alternative to buying one!

My grandmother didn't have a plucker. She had grandchildren! Glad you found a way to lighten the load. God bless y'all and keep growing.
Maybe someday we will be so blessed as to have them help! We've a few years yet to go 😀
@@FlannelFarms Yes, right now you have to live with those pesky child labor laws!!!!
@nancyseery2213 true, although Youngest Flannel was a huge help.
Butchering one chicken or turkey is such a hassle, I can only imagine many, so COOL that you invested in the Plucker Brian! 😊👍
👍

Hi Brian, ~ it sounds like a great idea to me.
😊😊👍👍💕💕
I plucked them by hand once a year while growing up, and I concur, everybody should pluck by hand at least once! With that said, I want a automatic chicken plucked 😂😂
I found that adding soda to the hot water when you hand pluck, is making it very easy to pluck the bird. They basically get loose on their own. I do not pluck many birds at once, so I do not see use for a plucker, but someone might appreciate the soda thing, even with a plucker. Takes care of all the hard to get out feathers on the wings you sometimes need to use a tweezer to get out.
I add a little dish soap to our water and it helps the hot water penetrate.
You're right though, if you're only doing one or two birds at a time it might not be worth the plucker. Thank you for your tip! I will try some soda next time
I've got plucking a chicken down to 3.5 minutes. I wasn't that happy with the pluckers I've used - they beat the birds up too much. We do have child labor, too, so as a couple people are plucking, another one is washing, another is gutting, etc.
Red tool house rented their plucker/chicken processors from their local town or county, I believe.
I've heard some of the cooperative extensions do stuff like that, but I haven't looked into it.
❤❤❤😂😂😂😅😅😅
We don't butcher dead things. LOL!!!
I know! Sheesh. I realized it during video editing but couldn't figure out how to fix in it post production, so there it is...
We don't butcher live things either! Haha.
Electric plucker. Electric freezer. Electric lights. Mail order chickens. Massive CZcams ad revenue. 🙃All not truly sustainable/self-sufficient. But it seems to me you are making use of what you have while you have it while knowing how you would get by without it ----- That sounds like a pretty good plan to me.
Yeah, man, you nailed it. I'm trying to learn Worst Case Scenario skills while also trying to just feed my family better. Currently, using modern stuff allows me to feed and provide at a pace I can maintain.
