Never have ice in drinks ,less drink in glass, ice melts , makes drink watery. Keep cans bottles in fridge, drink dispensers are cold, pub drinks are cold etc .

traditionally cider was made with cider apples, which you would not want to eat..they are sour. I enjoyed plenty of scrumpy as a youngster.. half a pint.. powerful! No more scrumpy for me, as I live in Canada now, but we do have several cideries here in Nova Scotia.. we have a load of apple orchards here, and I can still get excellent cider. Don't bother with sweet cider.

I lived in America, on the whole, it is a more socially oriented society. But depends on one's income. If you have a limited income, socialising is limited. And the same applies here. To be poor in America is far worse than to be poor here. You obviously have a good income.

An American friend of mine commented on how untidy our verges (long grass and weed flowers) were on the motorways. I pointed out that it is deliberate policy, not neglect. Insects come before aesthetics!

I love bluebells , if you walk through a bluebell wood in spring at dawn or dusk the flowers refract and reflect ultraviolet light , just like the woods in ' avatar ' . It only lasts for about 20 minutes but it is magical . Bluebells are a bulb and can remain dormant for at least 500 years untill a tree falls down and gives them enough light to start again . They also give off a gass which will rot fallen wood next to them very quickly ( within months rather than years) they then feed on the nutrients and provide space on the ground for their seedlings .

Suggest you contact Ekologik (based in Somerset, in the nearest village just a few miles away from me) - not sure if they do Laundry Detergent, but if they don't, I'm sure that they would know somebody who does (they are very friendly)

Bin collections every two weeks? We're down to every four weeks for general waste here (but weekly recycling)

Great to hear that you've been prepared to open yourselves up to what's here in the UK. It's you that have decided to adopt and embrace some of the new ways, outlook and thinking that you've experienced here during your time with us. You could always stay and take dual nationality. A few on here have, I'm sure you could find a reasonable small holding to carry on your dream of self suffiency. or farming.

Surely in the US you have Mormon and Mennonite farms which keeps to traditional farming without using chemicals apart from essential ones and don’t hormone injected meat or chlorine wash chickens or eggs. In conclusion it is hard I think for the average farmer to move away from batch farming, ie cramming chickens in cages or the cows massed in pens where controls on animal cruelty on farms is lax in comparison to Europe

you can take your dogs with you into main land Europe if you get them dog passports.... look into it, perhaps have a chat with your local vet

It's nice to see Americans branch out and experience another country. I got to be honest I'd never left Europe until I married my wife, who pushed me to see the states. Now we spend months over there visiting family.

Another great video Jess and Chris. Travel certainly broadens the mind; we are lucky to be close to other countries and cultures in this country and are small enough to be able to easily do day trips. But I am sure you will have a great time exploring parts of the States you haven't visited. There's lots over there that are on my bucket list too.

I’m sure you have visited many places in the UK. We live in Lancashire, England 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 and about 2 hours drive away from the Lake District in Cumbria. I assume you’ve visited this area? Scotland 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 is a beautiful country too with its mountains 🏔️ and Lochs and the vibrant cities of Glasgow and Edinburgh. Do you intend to visit the Republic of Ireland 🇮🇪 as well as Northern Ireland? I visited the Southern States of the US 🇺🇸 many years ago on 3 occasions in 4 years and obviously loved every trip. The people, the hotels/motels, the music 🎶, the places (the Carolina’s, Georgia, Memphis (Graceland’s), Nashville (Grand Ole Opry) & of course New Orleans. Keep up your good work ❤
