If you want some old Victorian windows, fireplaces, arches, pillars, bricks, anything like that, just go to any reclamation yard where they will have plenty. We have reclamation yards all over the UK where you can get virtually anything from the insides of an old town hall or public building, to an old ancient home. You will find plenty in those places to take back to the States. 🥰🤠😎

28:19 Nearly every village you drive through, you see some sort of monument to the fallen in WWI, which just goes to show the scale of the human cost. It really was a war where every village knew some young man who was sent to fight.

Hi Jesse and Chris ,I noted on your last vlog that you would like a narrowboat on the broads ,now narrowboats are really canal boats ,so the broads are rivers and in the main the boats are broader 'cruisers' usually up to about 12ft beam. A suggestion would be to hire a dayboat from ,say, Wroxham where there any many boat hire firms ,just to give you an idea of what the broads are all about. A tip, try to avoid bank holidays! Always enjoy your vids .

Very popular places to visit that you passed are Wells itself, Holkham beach which is renowned also dog friendly and Cromer, famous for its crabs. Just to have a look around and be next to the sea lovely when the weather's better.

    • @frglee
      @frglee Před 4 měsíci +1

Wells Next the Sea beach is certainly worth seeing as is Walsingham with all it's history as an ancient site of Christian pilgrimage - you can even ride between the two on a heritage volunteer run narrow gauge railway that nips through the fields at surprising speed. But thats more for Summer days, I think. Just down the coast is Sheringham, a traditional English seaside resort, very nice for a weekend trip in warm weather. There's also another heritage steam railway there, The North Norfolk Railway, that is a busy tourist attraction, and justifiably so as in runs along the coast over low rolling hills with pretty countryside.

The North Norfolk Coast is very important for wildlife. When my mother used to visit her sister - who lived in Norfolk - her sister would take her bird-spotting there - in January. My mother nearly froze solid! Do you realize that the coldest parts of the whole of Great Britain in winter are not in North Scotland, but near where you were driving? I believe there is no land between that coast where you were and the North Pole!
So in the winter you can either get the north wind from the Pole or the east wind, with little between it and the Urals.
I noticed Holkham, pronounced 'Hokum', I believe. Coke ( pronounced 'cook') of Holkham was an 18th-century nobleman who was very important in the Agricultural Revolution, when British aristocrats worked hard to improve agricultural techniques. I think Coke - his family may now be Earls of Leicester - was important in developing selective breeding of livestock. You may want to look him up.

The village that was flooded was Burnham Market, it has a nick name of Chelsea on Sea due to the fact a lot of rich Londoners own properties there. The average house price there is £1.8m.

The stone wall on your left as you enter Wells is - probably - the wall of the Holkham estate. Holkham Hall is widely regarded asthe loveliest house in England for its Palladian elegance. The estate is very important in the history of agriculture as it was the home and "laboratory" of "Coke of Norfolk". It would be well worthwhile checking them both in Wikipedia.

If you like Norfolk, I had a great time a few years back at the shire horse centre at West Runton. It's on the A149 near Cromer. Lots of other animals besides large horses that have been rescued, often from neglect. Free to go in but they obviously welcome donations to help their work.

Was on the north norfolk coast during that beautiful weather we had las tSeptember and it not only brought back my childhood seaside trips. but was so gorgeous You need to explore Holkham beach (also in Norfolk - they also have a lovely house you can see on the days it is open) f you want a beautiful walk for dogs. If you can overnight, why not have a trip through the Chunnel to France/Belgium?
There are loads of places right by the exit which are lovely, in the Pas de Calais for instance, only around a 4 and a quarter hour drive from you, including the time in the tunnel!
Try the Marais Audomarois, for instance, France's answer ( one of them! ) to the broads!
If you are lovers of seafood, anywhere around there and on the coast is great.
You will have to go a bit further to sample another country once you are back in the states!
PS. Another lovely drive, thanks for sharing!
PPS They also drive on the 'right' side of the road there, or mostly! ;-)

Thank you for sharing this. Unfortunately, April is the month of April showers, but that is why the UK is so green. In a few months, there will be a hosepipe ban, go figure. Did I hear you mention seagulls? You should go to Lyme Regis as there is an elite fighter squadron of gulls there. They do not take prisoners. Guard your fish and chips with your life as they will take the whole meal, in a second. I witnessed a gull snatch its meal and soar out over the beach. It was immediately ambushed by his mates and in the scuffle, the meal was dropped onto the beach. Unfortunately, it landed in the lap of a young woman reading a book. The flock immediately descended on her. We all felt sorry for her but it was hilarious. Regarding, not wanting to park on the sand. Tides in the UK can come in very quickly on flat land and rise several if not dozens of feet in minutes. Apart from losing your car, it is easy to get cut off when you are in a cove, and it comes in behind you. Stay safe, and Chris is an amazing driver.

Moving west from Lyme Regis into darkest Cornwall, you will find the lovely fishing village of Mousehole (pr. mao-zell) and its dessert squadron of herring gulls. These gulls are actually in league with the local ice cream vendors who open their booths every summer to attract gull-ible tourists. As everyone from outside Cornwall is a foreigner to the locals, especially the colonising English, do not be upset if you are called a "grockle" - this may be a term of abuse but as every non-local is called that, please do not feel picked upon.
Anyway, when the ice cream vendors open for summer they immediately train new gulls in the art of grockle-raiding. The vendor will supply the grockles with helpings of ice cream, served in an edible container of curved wafer, aka a cornet. A grockle will raise his/her cornet to the mouth and place the tongue in licking position - only to be struck by a blow to the head as the sound of thudding wings can be heard. And lo, the grockle is left with empty hand extended and empty tongue cooled only by the wind. The only option is for the grockles to return to the vendor's stand where they purchase another ice cream, this time to the tune of "that will be another couple of quid, thanks". When the vendor shuts up shop in late afternoon, you may see the edge of the sea wall lined with fat gulls exchanging tales of derring-do and recounting the number of cornets they snagged that day while, as the sun sinks slowly in the west, the vendors load the day's takings into their newly-polished Porsches and drive slowly home through the narrow lanes.

@@carolineb3527Wow, so eloquent. You put me to shame with this hilarious tale. Unfortunately, it is all true. It is the same for the fish and chip vendors who make a fortune from double sales. They even have warning notices that they are not responsible for the food once it leaves their premises. Those gulls sit on the wall behind the shacks and plan their attack. It is amazing how skilful they are.

The "Burnhams" Horatio Nelson 's old stamping ground. You are walking where he once walked. Son of Norfolk. You can see where he got the love of water.

Greetings from the city of Lincoln, have you been to Lincoln yet? we have Lincoln cathedral and Lincoln castle, Lincoln is also the birthplace of the Tank, there also is the Magna Carta in Lincoln castle, there's only 4 left and one is Lincoln castle, there's more recorded history in the city of Lincoln and county of Lincolnshire then in Great Britain, it's also known as bomber county as all the WW2 bomber crews were stationed here included the american bomber crews, Lincoln catherdral was the tallest building in the world for 200 years and if also lucky you might get to see the Red Arrows practice as they now stationed at RAF Waddington and RAF Coningsby is where the Battle of Britain Memorial flight, RAF Scampton is home of the Dambusters, czcams.com/video/D3hpL6UJrAI/video.html

Is there any chance that you could possibly adopt me? I am getting on a bit now, so it probably wouldn't be for very long. Oh, and I don't eat as much as I used to.
