    The Washington family ancestral home is 10 miles from me in Washington County Durham - great day out. The family coat of arms is 3 stars over red and white horizontal stripes. It is embossed in the roof of the cloisters in Durham cathedral demonstrating how far back the family go in this area.

      Yes, I remember seeing his family coat of arms..I thought then it might have inspired the stars and stripes flag of the US

    Interesting fact about the hedgerows, UK Farmers are paid a subsidy by the Govt for the upkeep of their land, so keeping hedges trimmed, ditches cleared & footpaths maintained earns them money and it looks great. 😁

      I couldn't help but wander when they was leaving what Chris and Jess was thinking about , that road was more than likely taken by George Washington the last time he left his home although it would wouldn't of been tarmac lol

    • @DaydreamersBarn
      @DaydreamersBarn  Před 3 měsíci +2

      It is crazy to think about things in that aspect. There are different areas in the US that have a lot of compacted history, much like London or other bigger cities. However, seeing the smaller more specific historical importance can be very impactful. Especially being in a different country related to your own country. Cheers, Chris and Jess.

    Hello, I enjoy watching your videos, and how much you enjoy the English countryside> Could I suggest a walk through a bluebell wood, as they are just starting to flower, you don't have to film the event, but just to see and smell them

    You really need to go to Bletchley Park , the stuff that was done there for WW 2 is amazing, my RE teacher worked there for a while and then ended up being a SPY in South Africa. Nobody including her own family new anything about it until she passed away in her 90s

    Hi again
    If you find yourself over near the Welsh border country, I believe you would enjoy a visit to Church Stretton just south of Shrewsbury on the A49.
    Two things to do.
    Firstly a drive up Carding Mill valley with the road by a lovely stream but it is a dead end and you can climb a waterfall if conditions are right.
    Secondly, take a drive up over The Long Mynd. Nothing on the scale you are used to in the States but it is a very scenic drive and I guarantee you will smell your brakes on the return down into Church Stretton!

    Jess, there's nothing like a "drive out" on Easter Sunday morning - and you didn't disappoint. However, I think you need to be a little bit careful about what you say, the phrase "I could be rotisseried (spit roasted)," can have a much more "adult" meaning for some people - at least in Britain anyway. Which I'm sure wasn't in your thoughts.

    Hi Jess & Chris, since watching your driving adventures I’ve seen more of my country than I normally do and I’m saving a fortune on petrol. I much prefer our traffic lights to the ones in the states, I never felt comfortable be able to turn right at traffic lights when they were on red, are you getting used to using the roundabouts. The one good thing is however lost you get you can simply call at any farm or residence for directions safe in the knowledge no harm will come to you. Many years ago when leaving Orlando Airport I took the wrong turning and headed out into the unknown, I eventually came to a main intersection and stopped at a garage and asked for directions to get onto the 192, the garage man said you are on it where have you come from I pointed across the road and he replied you shouldn’t be out there that’s bandit country, the film The Texas Chain Saw Massacre sprung to mind. I asked you once what you will miss when you eventually return home and you politely said everything, but what one abiding memory will you take back, have you got used to some of our tv programmes. Safe Travels, keep burning the rubber.👍

    • @DaydreamersBarn
      @DaydreamersBarn  Před 3 měsíci +1

      We are glad we are able to save the petrol for you. We can understand where it would be uncomfortable to turn right on red if you are not used to it. Left on red doesn't have the same as right on red either. Narrowing down to one memory we will take back, that is a difficult one. However, one we will be able to look back at is seeing how much history this country has, that we were able to see, and how much affect England has had on the entire world. Cheers, Chris and Jess.

    Once on the A43, you could have joined the A47 at Kings Cliffe to Peterborough and onwards toward Kings Lynn. You probably did yourselves a favour avoiding Northampton and joining the A43 to the east!!! Enjoyed the rip. As others have commented, there is a link to the Washington family here in the north east.

    In case you are not aware, the place names "Chipping" (Chipping Norton, Chipping Ongar, Chipping Campden, etc.) probably derived from "Ceapen", an Old English word meaning 'market', although the meaning may alternatively derive from (or via) the Medieval English word "Chepynge", meaning 'long market square'.
    (Yes, I copied most of the above from Wikipedia. It saved me time. 😉)

      (In case you didn't know).
      When we talk of "Market Towns" in the UK we mean towns which in years past used to hold markets, usually weekly though sometimes fortnightly or even monthly, where goods from the local area and even further afield were be bought and sold. The main emphasis was, unsurprisingly, on foodstuffs but household items like crockery, cutlery and furniture were often traded.
      With the coming of mass personal transport after World War II (mainly motorcycles and cars) people were able to travel further to buy the items that they wanted and many of those markets contracted and finished. In the N.E. England town where I lived in the 1970s and 1980s there used to be a thriving market in its Market Square every Wednesday and Saturday however that finally folded some 10 years ago. 😥
      The term "Market Town" lives on though, even if so many of those towns have lost their markets, but happily a lot of places now have regular Farmers' Markets which are something of a hark back to the origins of the original markets. If you haven't been to a Farmers' Market yet then I strongly recommend that you give them a try. 🙂
      Looking forward to your next video. 👍

    The trick with Diddly Squat is to get there before 9am as it gets so busy. Some of the produce is overpriced but not all. You could have got some mouth watering lamb from Marks and Spencer or Waitrose. I'm surprised the cafe was open as a while back the local council were trying to shut it down as Jeremy Clarkson built it without planning permision. As you know we have high health and safety regulations here which is why our food is so good and healthy.

The responsibility of the pedestrian is to stand still at a zebra crossing and cross once it's safe to do so, and not just think because it's a crossing that all cars are going to stop in time. You said tut tut thus blaming the driver in this instance.

      The same way thousands of motorists do every day. Are they walking towards the crossing and are close to it, are they checking for approaching traffic?
      If you cannot get a good idea, I suggest you throw your driving licence away.
      Your claim the pedestrian should stand at the side of the road and wait until it is safe to cross, would mean the crossing might as well not exist if motorists don't stop until the pedestrian steps on it. On more narrow roads, it would be dangerous to step on the crossing before drivers stop.
