    Grew up in Thetford and this brings bask lots of memories. There is now evidence showing that walking in woods and forests really helps improve your immunity so good on you guys for getting your 'forest bathing'. My favourite parts were the road from Thetford to Mundford at this time of year when the chestnut candles are out, and the little road from Elveden out towards Ingham in the autumn when the leaves have turned. Talking of colours, if you get a chance, go out to Peter Beales Rose garden at Attleborough in June if we ever get some sunny weather. Having tea in a rose gard on a sunny day with all the beautiful scent around you is just so lovely. Really enjoyed this one again, guys.

    One of the good things about having so much rain is that all of the plants, shrubs and trees look good when the sun finally comes out.

    It's lovely to see the new green shoots of life and the new leaves blossoming on the trees and along the hedgerows... The greenery is finally returning to the countryside after the long cold winter months... Wildlife is starting to emerge too... And although it won't be very warm just yet... But it's nice to see the sunshine and the blue skies once again... I really miss driving through Norfolk with their much clearer roads... Instead of sitting in a traffic jam... Or crawling along at a snails pace in a city centre setting... Luckily for me though... I live on the very outskirts of a large city... Where i'm incredibly close to the beautiful open spaces of the nearby countryside... I'm so lucky that i don't ever have to hear the hustle and bustle of big city living anymore... No sirens... No drunken louts... No barking dogs... No screaming kids... As well as an extremely low crime rate in the local area... I'm actually living in a very quite and pleasant neighbourhood... It's an extremely peaceful place to live... And i really feel for those that want and need to escape from the madness of the big city estates... I used to live in such a place myself for almost 28 years... When i finally left for my current home about 12 years ago... It was like moving to another planet... It was so peaceful and quiet... And i'm so pleased that i was ultimately able to move here... I'm very happy here... And i wouldn't ever move... Well not unless i were lucky enough to win the lottery of course... 😂 Many thanks for taking us all along for the ride Chris & Jess... All the very best guys... Cheers. 🍺

      The weather and seasons are changing. We are grateful to see the constant change. A different change in scenery can make a huge difference when it comes to how you see and experience things. We are glad that you are able to enjoy what you have. Good luck on the lottery! Cheers, Chris and Jess.

    You need to drive through The New Forest in Hampshire and the weird village of Burley where the horses take over the village every day. The village has shops to do with witchcraft and many old English traditions. Drive slow through The New Forest as the horses roam free, EVERYWHERE!! It's my heaven! 🥰 Bob

    Beautiful scenery and lovely photos of your family. The car noise seemed more on this video and sometimes overwhelmed your voice. Be careful when driving at night through the forest as the deer do not have tail lights. When comparing education between the US and the UK is it true that our pupils are 2 years ahead of the US or do they teach on base in line with the US curriculum?

    I noticed the Redwood in the 1st or 2nd picture, apparently there are a couple of Giant Redwood and a group of 5 Coast Redwoods in Brandon. I may be wrong, but I think I read recently that there were more Redwoods in the UK now than in California!

    Lot of pines in thetford especially on the suffolk side that whole region has Sutton hoo and Danish kings and further north relatives of Thor with the tooks and tokes and token . British trees and flowers are ahead of michigan by a month at least. The grass is greener and the clouds are fluffier in Suffolk or sllyl suffolk for holy suffolk so many churches

    You should try visiting Sherwood Forest near to Edwinstowe which is roughly halfway between Nottingham and Sheffield. 900 years ago Sherwood Forest was pretty much all forest and stretched from Nottingham to well north of Sheffield. But over the centuries much of it has been cleared for farming land etc, and nowadays it's much reduced and more sporadic. It's the "stamping ground" of the legendary figure Robin Hood, and there's a visitor centre to see and down a trail is the "Major Oak." The Major Oak is allegedly the actual tree that Robin Hood hid in whilst trying to evade the Sheriff of Nottingham's men. You can see that it's a great age, because it's big, gnarly and wizened now, and the branches are so old and heavy that they're held up by props these days.

    • @DaydreamersBarn
      @DaydreamersBarn  Před 3 měsíci +1

      We made it to Nottingham, but not to Sherwood Forest. That is on the list, even if we have to do a trip just to that, we think it would be worth it. Thanks for the info, watching, and commenting. Cheers, Chris and Jess.

    Thanks as always for taking us along!
    I just spotted this in 'The Guardian' and thought of you, as it is near you, just opened in this form, and visiting it should be an experience to treasure for a lifetime:
    ' Grime’s Graves, a remarkable prehistoric site near Thetford where for several centuries in the late neolithic period, people dug huge mineshafts deep into the Norfolk chalk, scratching with nothing more than deer antlers to reach seams of precious jet black flint'
    And:
    ' “I’ve spent a lot of time crawling around [down here], and you can go into certain spaces where you see someone’s tool and think: someone just put that down 4,500 years ago, and it’s still here,” she says.
    “You can literally see their marks on the wall, the tools they used, it’s a really unique experience.
    that’s why for me, every time I go down, it’s completely magical.”'
    And:
    ' Almost uniquely among Neolithic sites in England, visitors have long been able to climb down a rickety ladder to the base of one of the mineshafts to explore an authentic late stone age site for themselves.
    Now English Heritage, which looks after the site, has installed a new mineshaft entrance and considerably safer and easier ladder, opening this weekend, which aims to make the experience accessible to as many as possible over the age of seven.'
    There are not many places where you can get up close and personal to pre-history!
    If I were that side of the country, I would be there!

    • @DaydreamersBarn
      @DaydreamersBarn  Před 3 měsíci

      That sounds like a great time. Seeing what is done generations before we were here is something that needs to be appreciated for what it is. We will keep a look out for the mines to see if we are able to check it out. Thanks for watching and your comment. Cheers, Chris and Jess.

    I think I've only once been to that area. It's not my side of the country.
    But my understanding is that the area near Thetford is called the 'Breckland', and it's been planted with trees because the soil is poor and acid. However, the area is of interest to botanists, because - for Britain - it has rather a dry climate with extremes of hot and cold, and there are flowers on the heathland which are not found elsewhere in the UK, being more similar to those found on the steppeland further east in Europe.

    • @DaydreamersBarn
      @DaydreamersBarn  Před 3 měsíci +1

      We enjoyed the time we were able to spend there. The varieties of plants is a once in a life time opportunity for us here. Thanks for the insight. Cheers, Chris and Jess.

    • @mikesaunders4775

      The Breckland was a sandy desert in all but name, it was planted with conifers to stabilise the largest inland dune system in Europe. Sand storms were a regular occurence, enveloping towns as far away as Bury St Edmunds.
