      UK pepperoni is probably made in Italy, certainly some of the pepperoni pizzas are made in Italy. As you say, if pepperoni in the USA is different it is probably different from Italian pepperoni, the original and to UK tastes probably the best.

      This is true for the vast majority of Pepperoni (made?) in the USA.
      If you go to a very up market Italian restaurant in the US they will likely be using real Italian Pepperoni (and Salami etc) that costs them a fortune to import.
      I went to an award winning Italian restaurant near Philly a few times, and they always made you aware that their Italian dried meats were the real thing and imported from Italy (probably to try and justify the extortionate restaurant bill!).

    I'm pleased you are embracing the difference & having a good time - & your kids seem switched on & enjoying the opportunity to experience a different culture up close. You come across as good people & in my experience good people find other good people & I'm not surprised you have found some good friends. It does seem like you get very little support from the USAF - given the number of Airmen deployed & for how long it's been going on you would think that they would have a comprehensive package designed to make the transition easier. & as for the weather - I'm with Billy Connolly on this one - "There's no such thing as bad weather - only the wrong clothes." Lots of rain = a green & pleasant land.
    Love your stuff - keep up the good work.

    Been here 8 years nothing to worry about here the food is great the quality of meat, fish vegetables is so much better than the US. More healthy I lost over 40lbs in the uk. Tax is higher than the USA but nhs is great. Housing is about the same price but smaller homes, bills are cheaper here than California anyway. Groceries are cheaper here. I don’t eat fast food here I would rather save the money and eat out in top restaurants in London. So many great restaurants there. But each town has nice local restaurants don’t eat at chain restaurants.

    • @charlieboy6315
      @charlieboy6315 Před 5 měsíci +2

      Tax isn't higher in the UK - people tend to think that because they don't take all US state and local taxes into account. Once you include all the 'stealth' taxes, US tax rates are significantly higher.

    • @terryj50
      @terryj50 Před 5 měsíci +1

      @@charlieboy6315 I included all the taxes I paid in the USA vs here and it is slightly higher in the uk not much. But with what I had to pay for healthcare the uk is much cheaper.

    • @charlieboy6315
      @charlieboy6315 Před 5 měsíci +1

      @@terryj50 Lol, well yes if you don't pay healthcare premiums then you may well be paying less in the US, but of course if you encounter a serious health problem you'll lose everything and probably die on the street. Anyone who does pay for health insurance in the US is getting totally ripped off (3x per capita cost v the UK) and will definitely have less money in their pocket at the end of the month. Healthcare costs should be a tax (healthcare being a human right which should be provided by the state) - saying you pay less tax just because healthcare premiums aren't *technically* a tax (even though they should be) is just muddying the water and - no offence - precisely the type of obfuscation employed by lobbyists for big pharma.

    • @terryj50
      @terryj50 Před 5 měsíci +2

      @@charlieboy6315 I agree, but the USA does actually tax you for healthcare it just does don’t go to you it goes to the companies. So I’m glad I live in the uk now. I just had a hip replacement here and that would have cost me 40k on top of my healthcare in the USA.

      @@terryj50Even though it doesn't affect me in the slightest, it makes me a bit angry to see 300m+ people being conned by big business with the active assistance of their government! I honestly have no idea why you guys put up with it - spin and propaganda shouldn't be able to cover over the cracks when the systemic problems are so blatant and affect so many, yet from what I can tell even most democrats see someone like Sanders (who by European standards is a centrist just talking common sense) and some sort of fringe loon. Pretty depressing...

    If you are coming from the US and are worried about driving out roundabouts and our smaller roads phone one of our independent driving instructors (not a big driving school) and say you are a mature driver of X number years and have an American Licence but are living over here and wish to familiarise yourself with the rules. They will be impressed and will probably take you out once or twice until you are confident in the areas you worried about. You won't have to take a test.

    There is no stronger and closer bond than that beween The British and The Americans. The war of independence was, in my mind, a family feud that was long ago settled. I have American friends here in Edinburgh...... and an ex of mine was an American...a relationship that for a while saw me live in New York and Fairfield Connecticut. My father was in the Royal Air Force and stationed in Luqa, Malta....so I was a military brat too, as were my 2 brothers and sister...During our stay in Malta my father brought home for dinner 2 American sailors off a visiting Aircraft carrier. I recall being mesmerised by their strange accents and gleaming white uniforms. Anyhow, loved this video.

    Loved the Video. I am an RAF Veteran, and can appreciate all you say about your initial concerns on coming to live in another country, My family and I were posted to live in Five different countries, and we found the best way to survive and enjoy our posting, was to immerse ourselves in every aspect of the foreign culture, much like you are successfully doing. By taking the opportunity to see the country, meeting the people, trying the food, seeing the history and sights. at first hand is best, you will make mistakes, we all do, but even those can be turned into positives, that all add up to become a great experience you will never forget. We made many friends, learned a lot, we have many good memories, and still keep in contact with a few people we met over the years, hopefully you will do the same. Enjoy your time in our country.

    Just came across your channel and glad to hear you are enjoying UK and making the most of the opportunity. It’s always daunting to move away from your home country, but in the military it is a bit watered-down by comparison with moving individually. I know this as a globe-trotting military wife of some years ago and also because I worked on a USAF base in a DODDS High School in Suffolk. When I entered the base each morning I always felt I was crossing the border into ‘little America’. Sadly this had an impact on some of the kids in that they seldom to never ever left the base. And whist thinking of concerns about driving, there were, it seems, a fair few who did not share those as you did, as I regularly saw American cars mid field or upside down in a hedgerow from having treated our narrow country roads as if they were travelling on an interstate highway back home! Glad to hear you had a lot more sense than that. My advice would be to do as you have done. Get out and about, have some adventures and stay open-minded about our differences. I loved my time at the High School and learned so much about the US and got to know and like some lovely Americans. I hope you’ll feel the same about us when it’s time to head back home!

    Hey Jess. Taco bell is in most major UK towns and cities now. They are fairly recent in the UK (last 10 years). Wendy's are having another go over here. They were here a few decades ago but closed all stores. Popeye's are also opening a few outlets in the UK.

    I've been up and down the West coast of the US from San Diego right up almost to Sacrimento & loved it, also visited Las Vegas , entirely different vibe & folk behaving differently in each place , Los Angeles, not much walking, taxi or mini coach everywhere, San Diego & San Francisco, much more laid back & some really pretty little towns (fell in love with Sausalito).
    Now I've been to New York & also Bangor in Maine, totally different again (& from each other) such a huge country and I think each state is much like a different country , just like Europe is , we appreciate each place, the UK is like a microcosm of that, so many differences but a much shorter distance inbetween 😅

    First things first, homes here are very expensive, food and gasoline are to. Make sure you do your research properly.go on line, seek out answers etc dont believe your media or Hollywood its all b/s. The thing that will hit you most, is the size of everything here is much smaller, thats because we are a small country. At the moment life in the UK is in recession. Me if I were you I'd try wait a while.(At least a year)
    Second food here is different its fresher and under tough food rules so it will taste quite different.Many Americans that have lived in Europe over 6months actually loose weight even though they eat the same amount of food, most never go back to the USA. I.E. Mac Donald's has to work to a different recipe than the USA mostly because many foods have additives etc that are banned in Europe. OTHER THAN THAT YOU ARE VERY WELCOME! Oh the rest of Europe is very close, you can pop over to Paris from London and back again within a day or stay longer via Eurostar (thats a high speed train from London to Paris via a under sea tunnel) takes 2hrs 16mins or if you so wish could go to Brussels and many more destinations. If your planning in staying in the London area may I recommend a young American lady who has lived in London for over 8 years and really knows all there is to now about London. Her videos are on youtube under "Love and London". I am sure that were ever you plan to finally stay, people will be only to glad to help, just ask. Plus be ready for the humour, dont get offended, we Brits take the piss out of everybody including ourselves!!

Having lived in Mildenhall for years and having loads of American neighbours who I am in still in contact with even though they have retired from the USAF. It's great to see you guys venturing out, lots of service personnel rarely leave the confines of the base and that is a shame because of the rich history that surrounds you. I highly recommend getting fish n chips in Aldeburgh, a highly romantic oldy worldy seaside town.... I use Aldeburgh as my happy place, sitting on the bench next to the boating pond next to the medieval Moot hall with a gelato ice cream on the go.... Heavenly on a summers day... Wait for summer and go to the Aldeburgh Carnival.. Street bands, Floats, the night time paper lantern parade and the free fireworks display on the beach....

    This is my first time on your channel and i like getting different perspectives from foreigners living in the UK.
    The comunication technology has made a huge change in the easy of communication, even website like youtube where American and British can get to listen to the real normal people and understand each others cultures alot better, rather than relying on mainstream media and hollywood. This has brought our cultures closer together which some good and some not so good.
    At least you where posted to the UK and difn't have to try and speak a different language, but the English we speak here is a little different, but your accents are not to heavily american and most people will be able to understand you.
    Once you start making really good British friends you may encounter British Banter, which could be considered rude, but it our way of telling you that we like and trust you.
    Taking about the weather which is a British stereotype is real, the weather in the UK is very changeable sunny in the morning raining or snowing in the afternoon. We try and keep informed about the weather so we can make plans which normally if outside will be disrupted. Never plan BBQs weeks in advance.

    Chris, I am looking out for an old Mini - a proper one not one of those huge BMW ones. I plan to go to the local Pride of Longbridge Show in April which is a huge car meet for vehicles made at the old Austin factory. Tall people can drive them, my dad was 6ft 2" and he managed ok. They are fun to drive.
    Will Zach be learning to drive here so that he can use a stick shift?
    I think there is a Taco Bell in London and Popeyes is appearing in different parts of the country too, my buddy in LA told me to try the chicken tenders & mash at Popeyes should I get the opportunity.
    I hope you have a great week (we are at the end of the jet stream which is why we have so much rain but without rain we wouldn't be a green and pleasant land).

      We appreciate you looking out for a mini for us. Morris, Austin, anything British really, lol. Shane has driven a little, he learned manual in a Mustang and we have a Jeep that is manual back in the States too. Thanks for watching and commenting. Cheers Chris and Jess.

    Hi, plenty of Taco Bells in the UK. I think Taco Bell has only been over here fairly recently but McDonald's, PIzza Hut & KFC have been over here for decades. I briefly dated a lady from the US and she got scared when driving on narrow country lanes in more rural areas which maybe is seen so much in the US.

    Watched a bit of you guys driving around. I have to say both of you seem confident on the smaller roads. I wouldn't worry about driving, you seem to be absolutely fine and confident. I have watched some video of other Americans driving in the UK and understandably they seemed less able/confident. Back roads are much more dangerous than the main roads and Moterways though. Just adjust your speed when sriving in the lanes and countryside and expect the unexpected around the next bend is all.

    Still subscribed, no problem here. I always chose manual cars but now my body has won the argument for automatic. Had the car since last year and still go to change gear manually, and I have no gear knob to rest hand on. I am friendly and polite to all I meet, regardless. If they are not the same to me then I will leave it at that, end of... I was born in England and I often get the weather wrong. Leave house dry in t-shirt and return sopping wet. You will see people in shorts when it is freezing. I even pay for my double cheeseburger with tap debit card. The other side of my city there is a large roundabout with four smaller satellite roundabouts, you can go right or left at the big one.

    Discussing the weather is a national institution!!!! Some of your videos when you are driving show some very good careful driving, well done. I would like to think most Brits would be helpful in any situation. My first experience of the USA was in 1978 working with Boy Scouts of America. Have made life long friendships and do you know what! I just think of them as friends.

    We love your family and welcome you. As in any country, if you act stupid or rude you will probably get a poor reaction and you are neither of those. As for the weather, if you go out and you don't like the weather, wait 5 minutes for it to change. That is particularly true in the summer months. I am still subscribed and I even let all the adverts play through. Please tell me it helps because there were a lot.

      Passing on the left was the rule in the Roman Empire, for the reason you state. After the fall of Rome many countries in Europe continued with that practice but Napoleon thought otherwise and insisted on passing on the right in the territory he conquered. After that the remaining European pass-on-the-left countries switched over piece-meal to simplify border crossings, the last was Sweden that switched in 1967.
      Of course there are still countries outside Europe that drive on the left and not all are ex-colonies of Britain. Thailand and Japan for instance.

    ROUNDABOUTS - A good tip for negotiating roundabouts. If you are unsure what lane to be in when approaching them or what exit to take, always choose the outside lane and just go all the way round the roundabout (even two or three times around) until you decide where to go and what lane to be in. This may seem a bit strange but it really works. I have been driving for over sixty years and still use this technique occasionally when I'm visiting an unfamiliar city or come across a new road layout with an unexpected roundabout.

    • @DaydreamersBarn
      @DaydreamersBarn  Před 5 měsíci +1

      @@DaydreamersBarn as regards roundabouts the general thing is to think of a clock. If where you want to go to a destination before 12 you use the left lane but if you need to go after the 12 y 23:57 met quite a few American service men and women over the years and have been to RAF Upper Heyford a few times when I was based at RAF Brize Norton. I found the American Air Force personnel very friendly when I went there. Thanks for your post.

    CZcams is infamous for randomly Unsubscribing people from CZcams channels - its not you, its THEM.
    For the first couple of days, each time I used to drive a manual transmission in Italy, I'd end up winding down the window instead of changing gear!

    Hi again. Another great and informative video. 👍
    I have a question for you: How much UK TV and radio, especially UK news programmes, do you watch or listen to? I do realise that you want to keep in touch with events at home but do you keep up with UK happenings as well? Also, if you do see American stories on UK TV news what do you think of it? Do you think that our view of your country is balanced and fair? 🙂

    The differences between England and America have become watered down over recent years and so many Americanisms are used in our vocabulary today. e.g. apartment instead of flat or truck instead of lorry.
