Received a set today and they work great, thanks for the info.
Hey Ron, I wonder if there might be an advantage to adding 20mm dowels to your sacrificial strips to secure them on the PSS & PSB (so they can't move while cutting [even if that's rare]; or maybe even for storage?). Maybe you could even still nest them together in the same footprint (height-wise) by staggering out 20mm holes that would also interlock them together. Just a thought.
Good thought!
My order just arrived. Do you have go to ratchet strap brands (in store and Amazon) for securing loads (lumber, furniture) for transport? I ask about in-store too because sometimes you need straps sooner than Amazon can deliver.
I could not find a strap at Lowe's, Home Depot, Ace, or any other store where I shopped. I was very pleased when the straps I ordered showed up and fit the bill. I have a pile of straps that I have purchased and tested, which I will drop off at Goodwill. I would order the right strap and just use a rope until they show up in 2 days.
Awesome. Thankyou
👍
💯👍🙏
Would have liked to share u and tell about your potential.. no that was before and it's the end of that
Hi Ron from Australia 🇦🇺 Good light is a favourite subject of mine...I am curious as to the CRI value of your new LED lights. I believe that a CRI (colour rendering index) of 90 and above for LEDs is a must-have for quality vision and great video work. Below 80 CRI the lights will not reflect a full colour spectrum of whatever you are working on...skin tones in particular tend to look very "off colour" with a low CRI value. All the best from Rodney in Melbourne.

i thought the flex volt has a differnt charger???
Quest Completed: Unveiling the Perfect Ratchet Straps! - Also, welcome to the Gun Show.
Best straps nowadays are the automatic rewind straps! Now THAT’s a game changer, never a tangled mess in the boot… buy once, cry once but gives me a smile every time I use them.
Hi Ron - great video as always. Maybe I missed it, but why are the straps needed? I assume it’s just adding more stability?
Keeps the ultralight bench from floating away😎🤙
Sometimes on less than level ground the wheels need a little lift to make it over stuff. This way it is all nailed together. Though I have to say that the workbench wheels are a pain, because they do all kinds of bad things when one tries to lift them. I need something that holds them in place. The benches work fine without straps. I was surprised how stable the horses are, and how well they stick in place with just the projecting hinges.
@@TheSmartWoodshop I appreciate the humor but really, why did you find the need for the straps?
He made a video a while back. If I remember correctly, if you have a table saw on one side of the bench and nothing on the other, it isn't well balanced and you run the risk of the torsion box and saw horses lifting out of the smart kart. The straps keep that from happening. I wonder if he might find a solution with the new smart kart he is designing.
So what you’re saying, to get the straps you need to order a Harley and have it sent to your house in a crate 😆
Exactly 😎🤙
I can't think of one time I've ever needed to bond PVC to wood. 😂
I agree there is no NEED to have separate plans to scale it, but it would be very convenient. It's probably easier to scale it for the CTS (since you own it) in Sketchup (and make it available for sale) than it is for the layperson to scale it following the plans.
Ron Paulk is the modern day Larry Hahn for finish woodwork!
Oh man! Larry Hahn "The Very Efficient Carpenter." I learned so much from him and his brother Joe.
Alway living up to the name " Smart Wood Shop". Great job. I have been looking for this system to do my dog holes. My first bench I meticulously measured and drilled the holes with a brace and bit to give me the control to get the holes evenly spaced and bored straight through. As you mentioned, It is a lot of work. As I love my brace and bit drill I do not want to do my entire workbench top by this method. Thanks again Ron.
Something to think about when it comes to light. Your eyes work like tiny little cameras. The more light you have, the more your pupils (apature) gets stopped down, the deeper your field of focus and the less your eyes have to work to keep things in focus.
I'm really excited to actually see you build a home. Your system makes working so efficient, but as an amateur it would be really enlightening to see how long it takes you to build out a kitchen.
Working on it!
I had a concern about spreading while building these cabinets, so I added that spreader in the middle. My jig is slightly different than yours because I used ballbearing bits, but it worked the same way.
Hope you'll take a camera along on the Ron Paulk Smart Barndo Build!
You bet!
Copy and paste from European government health agency. How could exposure to LEDs pose any risk? LED lights emit optical radiation that could only in certain circumstances potentially damage the eyes and skin depending on several variables that have to be taken into account.
Eating food could only in certain circumstances potentially damage the human body depending on several variables that have to be take into account. 😂😂😂
I use the smart dogs that are flush at the top to prevent my strips from moving around.
what do you do if your tapcons strip when driving them into the block?
These are my go-to carbide blades in 10pack for decent price. Great on all woods and even plaster. BOSCH OSL134C-10 available on Amazon and other sites
New lights look good, the new wheels on the PSK look good too. Just finished my PSB and have the parts for the PSK already cut minus the cut outs on the sides.
You will love it!
I upgraded to LED tube fixtures when I found a great deal a few years ago. Turned out they hung from the ceiling with chains. UGH! I managed to save the day by 3D printing really cute brackets that sucked them to the ceiling, and actually added something to their look. 3D printers are indispensable for making those little fixes that cost 20 cents, take no time, and don't require you to use someone else's "fix" when you know exactly what you need. By the way, great for making jigs and patterns, at least small ones. When prints get too large they stop being economical in time or money, at least at current print speeds.
😎🤙
Thank you for the tutorial.I am now getting off my butt and getting led s for my shop👍
😎🤙
Looking forward to seeing you build your new Barndominium! 😉
You and me both!
I’m chomping on the bit to see it as well
Very cool! I am considering these for basement workspace with low ceilings. How far do these fixtures project down from the ceiling?
1-½" Total
@@TheSmartWoodshop Thank you Ron!
Addded LED to my shop over two years ago...one of the best things I've done to my shop, especially considering how cheap the upgrade is. It's like your recent video about oscillating tools, didn't know how much I needed it till I had it! Your Barndominium shop plan is on my agenda when I "retire" and move to New Branfauls TX next year. Envisioning not so much a wood shop, but an Invent-torium so to speak.
😎🤙
Wow. There is so much more information and news in this video than just LED lights. Thanks!
You bet!
I would put these in a new build or an underlit shop for sure. My challenge was transitioning from a well lit flourescent system to led. My electrician and youtube guided me through the process of modifying the fixtures mainly by removing the ballasts. I like the same lumen/ calvin configuration as you Ron. My fully lit up shop is something else now- didn’t realize how dim ( and noisy my old setup was). The bonus was with reduced draw on that circuit I was able to add 6 more fixtures. LED’s rock
The SmartWoodshop T-5 LED is a modified fluorescent. I made a video showing the conversion. The video at the end of this one links back to that one from 6 years ago: czcams.com/video/-Z-K9kzuN5U/video.htmlsi=H_Zzx5Htt13TdMb4
I have 25 6 inch can killers. My space is 20 x 22. It’s good I like it.
😎🤙
I went with something similar in my shop. I ended up with Hykolity Libra series lights which have almost the same specs as what you are showing except I hardwired mine in to the ceiling. I have 3 rows of 3 on 3 wall switches which is nice as you always don't need as much light as they put out. Mine have selectable 3500k/4000k/5000k setting and I agree with you 5000k is best for a shop setting. Mine also have selectable wattage of 65w/75w/90w I set mine down at 65w as the 90w setting was just too bright! I may turn a couple of them back up to 75w/90w though, especially the ones over the table saw and work bench. at 130 lumens per watt rating 65w still gets you 8450 lumens. at full bore 90w you are looking at 11700 lumens which is damn bright
😎🤙
I have these lights too , I love them. I cut out 1/4 " strips of underlayment, riveted the clips to that then screwed the strips where I needed them, makes them easier to install or move. Looking forward to seeing the videos when you start your new build !
😎🤙
Good luck with finding your new dream property . Very exciting. I put these LED lights in my garage/workshop, replacing fluorescents. Man, it’s so nice to flip the switch and get quiet I instantaneous bright light.
That is awesome!😎🤙
What dedicated hose are you using for your table saw?
shorts are a good idea for your content but i'd add a small video of you talking over this that quickly describes the usefulness of your bench. "I'm Ron Paulk and this is the Smart Bench. With 15mm holes on top, a handle, and bunch of space to store the tools you're using this is the lightest, most compact, and sturdiest workbench you can make. Follow for more."
😎🤙
I’d like to see its size when folded up and to see what edges are susceptible to transport damage. I notice that the top is not flush trimmed and has no hardwood edging for protection. Also, what is the weight of this “portable” workbench?
Nah, he does that in his regular videos. I like this short. If I want details, I will view his full videos.
@@bw162 Check out The Smart Woodshop channel for numerous videos showcasing the SmartBench series. By the way, the bench is flush all around, not just on the top, and adding a hardwood edge would be a downgrade. The TSW benches have been developed over 13 years in the field, focusing on remodeling and new construction.
@@TheSmartWoodshop That’s good. Just giving you my impressions from your advertisement in the form of a short video without voice description or info about it. Not inclined to watch “numerous videos” to learn what could have been easily described in this short video. Sales/marketing 101. Assumption that all potential customers are subscribers is faulty. P.S. My comments developed from over 40 years in corporate sales and marketing. Ever hear the old adage that inventors and entrepreneurs are the worst business managers?
The first time I saw a tool like this was in a knee replacement surgery I watched on TV. I only just bought one two years ago, and I can't imagine giving it up. It is a problem solver, especially when I'm doing something at our vacation home where my shop is not nearly as well equipped as my home workshop.
Once exposed to a multitool, it's hard to live without it.😎🤙
I've looked and can't find the video on what I assume are going to be new casters. Have you showed it yet. I'm getting ready to make an assembly table for the shop and what do something like your original design. Can you provide where and what you used on the original design and/or on the upgrade one please?
I am currently collaborating with the manufacturer on new and highly unique casters, but they are not yet finalized. I expect to receive the final design for testing within a week or so. Once I confirm the design, it will proceed to production. I anticipate that they will be ready to ship by the end of the month.
@@TheSmartWoodshop Wow! Thanks for the quick response Ron. I'll probably just go ahead and use the original ones you used. I found the link on your website. I think it will be fine for what I need. I always learn from your videos. I probably watched a dozen or so this afternoon. Thank you for sharing your knowledge.
I could not agree with you more with what you say at 19:06 to 20:46.
18:20 Sparky 😄😂
Viewing the background sinage: "The Smart Woodshed. Est 1960". Yikes! I'm guessing that's your birthdate? :)
The Smart Woodshop is all about being lean, and that's how I approach life in all aspects. So yes, TheSmartWoodshop was established in 1960.😎🤙
I’ll have to try the 90 degree option. I have the DeWalt (corded and cordless). I love how easy the blade changes are. But I ended up getting the Makita and it’s so much quieter and a lot less vibration. It uses different style of blades. Not as easy to change but I’ve hardly picked up the DeWalts since I’ve got it.
😎🤙
I haven’t even tried it yet and can already tell that you can have a lot more control at 90 degrees. Makes so much sense. Best multi tool tip I’ve seen.
Happy to help!
Thank you for this excellent comparison. I have room for either saw but remain undecided about the fence. Do you notice any difference at all with regard to accuracy between the two fences? Other video reviews that I have watched complain about the accuracy of the JS Pro's T style fence as well as that slight movement when locking it down. Thanks for all of your great content.
I like the JSP fence. It is the best fence I have owned.
@@TheSmartWoodshop Thanks Ron!
I do use my deWALT oscillating multi tool a fare bit. It's even effective cutting bolts. Thanks for sharing.
You bet
They are like printers, or wet razors. You spend most of the cash on the blades/consumables.
Where are you getting your razor blades? The ones I buy are 20 times more expensive than multitool blades.😂
