Who's Gonna Shoe -- a nerdy original song
zhlédnutí 931Před 2 měsíci
The refrain of this is adapted from an *old* trad folk ditty, which is sometimes performed as its own song but perhaps equally often appears as a verse in other songs. Should I finish writing this? How do we feel about hearing more music?

I love how you imbue these interesting technical things with excitement and verve. You are tremendous.
And yet autism isn’t one of the #tags for this video. 😔 It’s only half pride.
good explanation! The term seems to be used most often to express subjective disapproval of a change dressed up with a scientific-sounding word.
A friend recently tried to argue that orcas were not "whales" because they were dolphins, I am relieved to learn that dolphins are whales anyway, nullifying the whole dispute.
Yeah, I've read that dolphins (and porpoises, etc.) belong to the "toothed whales" (the Odontoceti parvorder) whereas other whales such as the blue whale and humpback whale belong to the "baleen whales" (the Mysticeti parvorder), which are the two parts of the Cetacea infraorder. 🐳🐬 Don't get me started on "Old World monkeys"... (Cercopithecidae versus Catarrhini)
Right here I think we have a major difference between science and pseudoscience, that being the sentiment "we were wrong, how cool is that??"
Thank You Astrid Lundberg!
Adapting to their changing environments, so they returned to body parts that work in their new environments.
It all leads to us. The MASSIVE ego on us!
except for the band Devo!
Thank you for reminding me of Kaimere’s long history of derived stem tetrapods
Nice haircut bro
i learn so much from you!
a vast amount of the misconceptions we have current today arise from that linear understanding of 'progress' through time. these videos covering the evolution side of all this are just fabulous. thanks astrid
Videos like this are why I subscribed to your channel. You often show me something that challenges my understanding of our world. Keep it up!
perfect concise explanation!
Ty for being you.
I have little interest in the subject, but this was just enjoyable to watch! Good presentation!
THIS! TY! THIS IS WHAT I'M ON ABOUT! Well actually, tbh I still didn't have this 100% sussed myself until quite recently. But yeah basically-- basically a lot of people have a lot of misconceptions about what evolution is/is-not. And since evolution winds up tending to have a huge impact on an individual's worldview, that sort of information can be *IMPORTANT*. Ty for drawing attention to this issue. Sorry if I was a little loud. I just feel quite passionately about this subject.
I've read that one of the theorized adaptive benefits in humans (among other animals) is a stronger community. Given that it generally does take a village, mates that aren't directly reproductive will still very much contribute to the survival of kids by being able to adopt, or do work for the community without having to spend time on children of their own. This helps their close genetic relatives successfully pass on very similar genes. Plus, we're fun to be around, and that's pretty cool all on its own.
“2.5 sentences” lmao that’s a burn
Everything alive currently, right now, today, this instant, is the "most evolved".
I learned about this with giraffes! Short version: There's a bunch of male gay giraffes because having a pair of gay uncles who can also watch the kids means there's tons of adults invested in the survival of the kids.
Agreed. People who only know 8th grade biology get stuck on on individuals passing genes down via having children. If my siblings have children and are unable to raise them and I raise or help raise them then some of my genes indeed get passed down.
People who think that what they learned in middle school is the be all end all of knowledge are the bane of my existence
Evolution happens over the course of generations? Bigger mammals have fewer offspring at a time, with longer gestation periods? So it's arguable that we are less evolved than rabbits or fruit flies
Absolutely love this! I'm going to share it with anyone who adopts this standpoint
Excellent!
Will you ever have a podcast? I love the shorts but I want more! Thank you!
Props to you for staying kind and polite!
The way you waved your hands around gave me an idea: Have you ever considered doing a video on the evolutionary significance of the development of thumbs?
Great rebuttal and great video overall ❤
you remind me of my friend Josh in how you so cutely and kindly explain things in a way I would be too angry to; I aspire to be more like y'all. ALSO to add on this: Homosexual behaviors in larger social groups can similarly to your gull situation create more opportunity for young to survive after having been rejected or orphaned or even when the full family is alive, during times of drought and other environmental stressors increase those foraging or hunting and therefore decreasing the ratio of eaters to producers. Like, there's TONS of reasons it HAS evolved, if people want to use their imagination they can begin to see some of the myriad possibilities.
excellently put. I would go further and say that 'neutral' and even some currently less-than-ideal traits are long-term beneficial because their species-survival and individual-survival impact is trivial to none, but in the event of significant changes to living conditions, eg climate change, long-term drought, salination of water, dying off of a key food plant, deliberate hunting of males of a species by humans cos they are deemed 'better' trophies etc etc through endless possibilities... the weirdos and quirky and divergent and generally just apparently non-optimal individuals are likely to be where species survival exists through adaptation or over the longer term 'proper' evolution. survival of the 'typical' relies on the 'atypical' because survival is not about everything reaching for and remaining in some idealised stasis but through adaptation. 'ideal' is a context-sensitive concept. diversity is survival, uniformity is not. this applies to species yes, but also to relationships, to societies and cultures, to commercial businesses, and much more.
I learn so much from this channel. who would have known the intersection between gay and dinosaur would be so interesting. :-)
Ask most neurodiverse individuals about the neurotypical herd. My take on it is Sumo: the survival of the fattest
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Utterly lovely. As always.
I appreciate the variety of ceratops names, from Wendy all the way to Medusa
I would love to hear you r "musings" on the episode "Shadow Play" (Deep Space 9) Autistic or Hologram or Down's syndrome or whatever "Because I love her."
I prefice this as a highly masked autistic... as an individual who relates and loves you and your videos... Do your thing and stop giving an F. Although I love the feminine side of you... your chaotic journey into new territory of dudism, is admirable and respected. If you're ever in Carlsbad, San Diego... Let's go for a weird walk 😂... I assure you, that thankfully, no road or path is perfectly straight in San Diego. Lol
Thanks!
Whenever I stumble into conversations with "conservative" people who object to [insert gender/sex/sexuality/culture/identity issue], I always end up asking the same question: Why does it bother you so much? I haven't gotten a reasonable response to that yet.
So, they’re just peacocking. I’ll see myself out.
Wow, that's a wild hypothesis, in a good way When youre just that successful of an animal group competition within yourselves is the species-dividing drive lol, or that least there was somehow so many the subtle environment differences were enough to specialize in
I just found out about a discovery of an enormous salamander that was around well before the dinosaurs. You should check it out.
Your absolutely unpredictable video drops give me life 😅
Please help a n00b. Paleontology time scales still baffle me. If 10 million years separate Lokiceratops from triceratops does that make them relatively near or far from each other on the dino timeline?
Relatively close :)
Moar ceratops!
Comment 🙂

Technically, yes, part of me was in my grandma's womb as my mom had all her eggs when she was born. But that was not really me. That was an oocyte (egg cell/gamete that had 1/2 of the DNA that I have). Technically haploid gametes aren't alive as they don't have all of the characteristics of life. They don't grow, metabolize energy, or, ironically, reproduce. And sperm do actually move on their own, but egg cells don't, so they're lacking another requirement of life. Life for me began the moment of conception, when my full set of DNA and chromosomes came together. When that happened I finally fulfilled all the requirements of life. I do like what you said about borrowing carbon! So true. When we burn fat we literally break it into carbon dioxide and breathe some of it out. That lettuce on your burger may have been part of your next door neighbor's body lol it's fascinating. And off topic but the same with water. We only borrow it and are drinking the same water that George Washington already drank.
