THE SOLUTION to Your Workshop Storage Problem
I encountered an problem in the workshop and there was only one solution. I needed a storage and organization system for my workshop cabinet drawers.
Shop space is at a premium. Woodworkers tend to never have enough space to store tools, materials, or whatever else we think is valuable and necessary to have in our workshop. I needed a way to maximize my workshop cabinet drawers so they hold everything I need, with no wasted space. I also wanted storage flexibility. My drawer storage needed to be customizable so I can reorganize tools if needed. The solution was to make a drawer storage tray that transforms into basically anything I want!
My workshop storage system has dividers that slide along aluminum T track to wherever I want. It also has customizable dividers so I can add or subtract dividers as needed. The drawer storage has removable trays that can be moved into different positions. To top is off, a wood panel sits on the storage unit. I can put things on top, allowing me to truly maximize all of my workshop cabinet drawers.

    Another great video! The Japanese clamps seem like a great idea for small projects and glue-ups. However, they are out of stock at Amazon and they may restock the clamps. Any idea (s) where else to look for the clamps? I looked around but did not spot any other sellers.

    The "use a stop block even when making the squaring cut" tip is an excellent one. I learned that the hard way after I spent an hour trying to understand why multiple squares were telling me the miter was square to the blade, but the resultant cut was not square. I was assuming all of my squares had a discrepancy between the outside edges and the inside edges and it was driving me nuts. It was just because as I was pushing the workpiece into the blade, the resistance was causing the workpiece to move ever so slightly during the cut, throwing it out of square.

    A simple mind set change will help a person reduce the amount of money they waste on tools. Don't see a tool and think it looks cool, buy it, and then try to figure out how you will use it. Turn the process around. When there are processes or actions you do that are tedious or don't work well, look for tools to help that activity. It's a simple little perspective change, but it helps... not that I still don't buy tools I have no idea how I will ever use the thing.

    You use the golden ratio to determine how thick or thin the box should be in relation to its size. Also, from an artist standpoint, its a compositional flow so open space is part of the ratio - and it's usually just done by eye (similar to how you figured out how thick or thin it should be). It's all pretty cool stuff that can apply to a lot of things!

    Great video, I'd heard of, but then forgotten about those little Japanese clamps. This time I'm gonna save some to my wish list! Also, what's the purpose of the granite slab on your sharpening box if you're not using it with the scary sharp (sandpaper) method? Since you're using diamond stones anyway, it seems a bit overkill in the expense department.

  • @MNMetsFan
    @MNMetsFan Před 4 dny

    One thought, if you cut the height of the back of the draw roughly in half, then when the drawer is open, your divider shelf could slide back, giving access to the bottom layer of storage. In that way, it doesn't have to be removed except for the case where you would need to access the very back of the lower level.
