- Summer is coming to a close and it’s time for woodworkers to get back into the workshop and start batching out DIY gifts, whether they’re for teachers, family, or just because we’re too cheap to buy something! Here are 3 woodworking project ideas that are easy to make, but still have a very cool “wow” factor.
Geometric Flower Pots - This is a fun woodworking project because it’s completely made up and unique. Grab a chunk of wood and cut it up in different shapes. Ideally, have those pieces fit together so the flower pots can be arranged in different ways. Don’t get caught up in the measurements. Have fun my cutting bevels and playing with visual elements. Drill a large diameter hole in each wood block and add a small plant.
Wood Notebook - Wood makes for a cool notebook cover. The wood species can have a big impact and the notebook covers can be personalized. Pick a preferred size of paper and cut two boards that are just slightly larger. Drill holes that match the holes in the paper and bound the book using leather, string, or metal rings.
Leaning Wine Rack - A mind trippy project, a leaning wine bottle rack is a cool looking project that always catches people’s eye. Determine the size board you want and lay out where you want the wine bottles. Drill holes big enough for the bottle necks. Cut the base of the rack at an angle that let’s the rack stand and remain stable. You may have to play with the angle until you find the right one.

Love the Dave Matthews wine
Cool ideas. Thanks
All nice, especially the notebook!
Nice.
"...probably, most likely, definitely kill it." 🤣🤣🤣
I bet your possible thought of "batching" some out, might gain you some sales, my man! I'd be one of them there book buyers If you decide to make it happen 🤜 🤛
As always great video ! Go Buckeyes !!
Very cool.
Love the concepts. But most people don’t burn walnut. So wouldn’t
Have in the firewood pile. But love the projects
Must be something in the water up there in Michigan. There is something particularly cool about being entertained while learning. Watched 4 of your videos this morning an this one popped up.
Now into the shop to start shellacking a night table I made for my daughter. Thanks for that video as well!
That's good stuff and the best reason to be in the shop!
Very cool great ideas thanks for sharing
Great scrap wood projects!
Excellent small projects! Can knock out many for the holidays! Thanks much!
😍 I love your projects! I'm a newbie...so new, I bought some power tools and I haven't made anything yet. It blows my mind that you start with a fire log or hunk of wood. It shouldn't because that's where it all starts but my mind was fixed on buying nicely processed lumber (or whatever the terminology is). 🤣 Your work is very inspiring.
Those are great, Billy.
Bill
They're fun ones, especially when we don't have a lot of shop time.
Beautiful work, Billy! Nicely done! 😃
I loved the notebook idea!
Stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊
That project can be customized a lot of ways. That's why I dig it.
Great ideas man, I’m digging it
Thanks!
How far apart are the holes on the wine holder
Was that last piece walnut? That is my guess as I have found walnut similar in color, but far from that much figure. Beautiful piece.
Yep, a beautiful piece under that bark
Great projects, Billy! Where did you get the leather for the notebook??
I believe either Hobby Lobby or Michael's.
What is holding the wine holder from tipping?
The angle of the bottles is a counterweight.
Nice work. Question: When you run small pieces thru your planer, how do you attach them to the sled? Thanks.
I often use double sided tape and take light passes.
There awesome Billy need more these please. 2 things do they really stand up on there own and what angle did u end up cutting on the bottom and what size hole did u drill? 👍🏴
The bottle holder stands up on it's own. Pretty cool effect. The angle of the bottom depends on the length of the board and bottle placement. Drill a hole and then try an angle around 30 degrees. That's a good place to start. The hole was about 32mm.
Nice projects. How do you set your bandsaw blade on the wheel to avoid blade drift?
I'm far from a bandsaw expert. Check out Alex Snodgrass. He's the expert!
Very cool ideas and inspiration!
Very silly question, but where would one go for loose paper like that of that size?
Or what is it called? Not regular notebook paper or printer paper
I just put a link in the video description to the size paper. Hopefully that helps!
Greetings from the uk 😊
Love the wine bottle holder. Is there any particular angle that generally works, or is it just trial and error?
Trial and error, but try around 30 degrees
@@NewtonMakes great thankyou :)
@MrBigMalT Hello, I have made a few of the wine bottle holders and 45⁰ works for me. I haven't tried any other angle, though.
Not too surprising if you don't have a green thumb for living plants. You spend all your time cutting up the desiccated corpses of their bigger cousins, and sticking the bits back together in new shapes. You are to plants what Dr Frankenstein is to humans.😁
Never thought of myself like that😂
